New Northside Park

Pros:

-- Two tee pads per hole.
-- Excellent tee signs that mark both tee pads, par and distance along with an accurate map and next tee indicator.
-- Distance variation looks good on paper. From the short (white) tees, six holes are shorter than 250 feet. From the longs (blue), seven holes check in at longer than 600 feet. You've also got 5 holes longer than 500 feet from the short tees, which feels really long for some of us.
-- Six is a well-designed long hole (614/756). You've got trees close on the left side but open on the right for probably 450 feet from the short tee. You've got a few trees to navigate in the fairway toward the end of that 450 feet before a 45-degree RHBH hyzer around the tree line to a basket near a creek/ditch.
-- Holes 13-15 provide a respite from the really long holes with all three checking in shorter than 260 (two under 200) from the short tees and all three under 300 feet even from the long tees. Trees are in play, so these holes are not gimmes.
-- Water is in play to some degree on about seven holes. There are no lakes/ponds, so most of the water comes in the form of a creek beside a fairway. Once or twice, you throw over a creek. Distance isn't the issue, but accuracy/luck comes into play on No. 10 where the combination of lots of small trees and a meandering creek make it feel somewhat luck-dependent on avoiding the creek. The water is so murky that once a disc is in the creek, it is likely lost.
-- Restroom on site (in the senior citizen center). Not sure of the hours.
-- No map on site.

Cons:

-- Tee pads are natural.
-- Too many long (and mostly open) holes. It starts with No. 1 (501/624) which is slightly uphill with a roadway right. Sixteen (775/965) is long for the sake of length with little other challenge.
-- No seating at tee pads. I don't usually care, but on a course this long, seating would be nice.
-- Long walk 7-8.

Other Thoughts:

-- This is a LONG and mostly open course. There are a few shorter wooded holes, but the big-armed players will enjoy it more than I did.
-- I first played the 9-hole course in this park 5 years ago to the day of this review. While the signs and infrastructure are better on this course, I enjoyed the shorter holes and the game play on the old course.
