Pros:
Checking out this park for the first time, I found out that a lot of money and time went into Rotary Park's 18 hole disc golf course . . A nice kiosk with a good map sits close to hole #1 near the lot . A Port O Let is close by , too . A practice basket is also accessible here . Long catchy cement tees , and some very good signage that shows you hole # , distance , par , and both fairway path and distance for both pins . There are 2 Discatcher baskets per hole , a red basket in the short positions and yellow basket in the longer ones . I personally like the 2 baskets per hole versus the 2 tees per hole because you won't have to search for the tee box you want each time . The fairways were pretty well mowed and the course was trimmed when I was here , but the rough here is bad . Since some of the baskets are blind , or if you tend to shoot at the yellows , I hope you have someone to take turns spotting for you , or you may have to look for your drive even if slightly off target . The elevation is pretty good here , so you will get a workout in . There are some especially long walks between tees and I will talk about it in cons . Pin placement is good , but I am curious as to why the only water in the park ( creek that you cross on a nice bridge around hole #14 ) was not added to a couple of the holes . Was surprised when I found out the course designer was H B Clark . The front 9 starts with a downhill slightly right to left blast on hole 1 ( watch your drive ) and proceeds with slightly more open fairways . After your walk to #10-18 , the course becomes more tight and technical , other than 14 & 15 , which resemble the front 9 . As long as you have a map or a picture of the kiosk , you will stay on track ( look for tees or paths from the yellow baskets most of the time ) , with the exceptions of #3 - 4 , take path left , and at the bottom walk to the left and throw straight down the fairway . Also after finishing #5 , you have to take the entrance to the right of the red basket in order to access the #6 tee . The course will take you at least an hour solo . There wasn't anyone on the course when I played on a Saturday afternoon . The course is close to I-24 , a good leg stretcher . Rotary will not knock your socks off with memorable holes , but I think it is fairly solid on the whole .The finishing #18 hole is a tight uphill shot 275'. Pretty good . My signature hole would either be #2 a doorway shot slight uphill hyzer to a leveled off green with a basket basket encase by trees , or #15 , a level flat open drive that enters a woods to a basket guarded by fairway trees and has a low ceiling .
Cons:
#1 . Navigation . I put 2 problems in the pros . The walk from 9 to 10 borders ridiculous . I might have been able to fit 2 holes in between it . Don't give up on it , though , because some of the holes in the back are worth it . There are some NEXT TEE signs here , but it could use some more . #2. The elements . A lot of this course sits on dirt , which means that after a rain , and adding the elevation , it could get dangerous trying to walk this course . #3 The rough . Way too high and thick , this course can be a disc eater . Disc Risk : Medium to High , especially on the front 9 . A word of advice . Even if it is warm outside , you may want to consider long pants because of the little critters on the course , and spray some deet to keep the flies and bugs at bay .
Other Thoughts:
I don't know if the full potential of this course will ever be realized , but I was still entertained and glad I played here . There might still be a little work to be done by clearing or widening a few fairways in the back 9 or opening a green or two up . Other than that I think that the city of Clarksville was serious about having its own course . Not upper level , but a good play not far from I-65 and Nashville and especially right next to I-24 . My Recommendation : Definitely not for newbies , families , or the casual 2 disc player , but good for local enthusiasts , travelers , baggers , intermediates and even a pro would get something out of it . Don't go out of your way to play this course , but it Can be a worthwhile one .
