Pros:
When I say a course is just off the interstate , you can see I75 from the top of the course . Shady Brook Greenway Park is a little hidden small park that runs parallel to the highway . The 9 hole course runs right up the park street for 5 holes , a little uphill , then back down the other side for 4 , a little downhill . The baskets are yellow banded Discatchers , The tee pads are framed gravel , and the signage is okay , with Hole # ,par and flight path . There is a nice kiosk with map near hole 1 , which is at the end of the road . A decent bathroom is also near hole 1 . Trash receptacle is on the course , too . The course is well maintained . They were cleaning the bathrooms when I was there on Monday morning . The course distance varies from 155' to 271' ( #9 ) . Disc risk is about zero . Not much to lose it into except maybe the back couple of holes on a griplock . . There is a little fun factor to a course that plays this fast . No signature hole , but a lot of ace runs and birdies . Course took me about 25 minutes to finish solo . Maybe an hour for a foursome . Picnic table & trash can at 3 , can also cross the street and sit after hole 7 .Fantastic course to bag or stretch those legs after a long drive south for vacation .
Cons:
#1 Navigation . Not for the course , but really for the locals or out of towners . i am not sure that too many know about this course . #2 Challenge . Not much here . Your local and newbie should shoot par if the can keep their drive off the street . Only a couple of holes over 200' . Parking is at a premium here . A very small lot awaits , but I can't imagine anyone comes here much
Other Thoughts:
A fantastic course for newbies and locals . Fast , easy birdie and ace runs , still forcing you to control your drives either on the right or the left side of the road . I was playing right behind local disc golf enthusiast Jim Hunter , a retiree that enjoys coming here several times a week . He says that no one local knows this place . Sad . Anyway , My Recommendation : local Intermediates , or pros , not a good idea . Head up to nearby Okahumpka , Floral or Whispering Pines . Other than that , locals , newbies learning to keep their discs in bounds , and especially weary travelers looking to stretch for 25 minutes before finishing the drive south can give this course a look-see . It should cost you roughly a total of 45 minutes of your time . You might even leave with an ace .
