Pros:
-Pretty easy to navigate: You can't overstate how nice it is to have a course that's easy to navigate. Sure, I needed the map, but that's not a big deal as long as I could find the next hole.
-Decent variety of shots: Not much space to work with here, but the designer(s) did a good job feeling like each hole was its own. It wasn't 18 unique kinds of shots, but it each hole felt different.
-Pin positions: I thought there were some neat pin positions on a few of the holes. (Baskets were neither good nor bad.)
-Big field to warm up in: There's a huge field right by hole 1 where you could warm up. I didn't, but I saw others doing it. Always a huge perk.
Cons:
-Signage: The first several holes had these great, informative signs and then starting about hole 9 they just said "hole X." Kind of a bummer.
-Teepads: Mostly rubber with a few naturals.
-Short and not so technical holes: I don't have a problem with short holes as long as they have a good challenge to them and are fair. I felt like many of the holes had a "gimmick" like a mando or a tree 20-30ft in front of the teepad, right in the middle of the fairway. Yes, make me earn my shots, but make it fun and interesting. These sorts of obstacles remove the choice from the game, the risk-and-reward.
-Multi-use area: Call me a snob, but I like it when a course is just a course and not 6 other things. School was out when I played, but it would've been a real bummer to have to navigate around children playing ninjas in the woods or whatever.
Hole 14: If there are layout options on Udisc that avoid a hole, it's a bad hole. Related to my point earlier: if the water is "in play" that's one thing, but hole 14 is just set up to eat (drown) discs. Not fun.
Other Thoughts:
Looks like it's been a few years since somebody reviewed this course. I only played it once, but I thought the lack of recent reviews outweighed my inexperience with the course.
I like to reserve "Other Thoughts" for the question: What would my game be like if this were my home course? I would have a strong game with my mids, and I think my putting would be pretty strong. Most pins are open, so if you could bang home 20-40' putts with regularity, you'd be Kingstown Royalty. My long game would suffer, though wouldn't be totally gone with the 3 field holes (16, 17, 18). In short, I'd say that I'd have a solid short game with some weakness such as a reliable forehand or a big bomb.
This isn't a bad course, but I certainly wouldn't make a super special trip to go and play it. It's the kind of course I'd want 15 minutes from a great course. I'd come and play this one first with my buzzz and my aviar, throw some warmup bombs in the field, and then go play the great course.
