Four Holes 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 29, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

A remarkably coherent four-hole course.

For whatever reason, this medical center decided they wanted disc golf in their backyard, and so HB Clark came in and put four solid holes here. Every hole has a concrete tee, good sign, and good basket. Maintenance was fine on my visit.

The terrain is one big hill with moderately spaced trees. The first three holes play along the side of the hill, and the fourth is more of a straight downhill shot. Holes come in between 200 and 400 feet, and they are solidly typical park-style shots, with (4) a particularly good hole featuring a guarded basket that will require some nice touch to go below the ceiling but not skip down the hill.

I truly have no idea who this course is aimed for, but I enjoyed it.

Cons:

Length. Goodness gracious, this course is short. You won't have time to hit your stride here. In fact, you probably won't even break into trotting speed before you've finished. Much respect to Clark for building the best possible 4-hole course here, but there simply isn't much space.

I also had a small issue on the first tee, as someone decided that the concrete would be a good place to leave patio chairs. Honestly, not even worth mentioning.

Other Thoughts:

Seeing as there are 3 solid reviews already, I tried to be brief in describing the Links. It's a great four-hole course, but being four holes is definitely a drag. I'll not presume to say whether it's worth it for you or not.

You Don't Need To Be Patient 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 27, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

When You pull into the Southern Tennessee Regional Health Care System Parking lot , keep right and drive all the way to the end , where ambulance service is . It's almost as if there was a small private parking space for disc golf right next to a nice Kiosk with a map on it . Step over the curb and hole #1's tee is right next to it . I am not they will allow you to use the bathrooms here .
The Equipment : I had mentioned the kiosk , here . Impressive . The baskets are nice Discatchers that look new . The tee pads are cement and plenty large enough . The signs are great ,Giving you everything you need to know about the hole and a flight path . The equipment here is excellent !
The Landscape : The hospital grounds and the course were very clean and mowed when I was here . All branches were even trimmed . There is a big pond that is on the left side of hole #2 , and should be out of play , but is picturesque , with a fountain coming out of it . There is however , a small sinkhole in the fairway of #3 ( more in cons ) , so be careful ,especially playing at dusk . Much of the 4 holes plays on a slant of an embankment , so there is elevation present .
These 4 holes are all in the side yard of one of the hospital buildings , and you are able to see all baskets and tees from the #1 tee pad ,
The Highlights : The longest hole is #2 , an open sloping hole at 360' . The lake is in your peripheral as you throw , but you would have to really misfire to out and out chuck it in there . The best looking hole and my favorite was hole #4 . A downward sloping hole at 265' , that is protected by trees at the front , with a canopy stopping anything direct . Best way to shoot at it is to come in from right to left on the side . You might be able to go low and hop the ground directly at the basket if the ground is dry enough .
Time : It took me less than 15 minutes to go through this course . A foursome won't come to play 4 holes ( IMO )
Course Appeal : This course sticks out in my mind how gorgeous it really is . Fountain in the middle of a pond , a really nice piece of property . Everything is just so , here .
Disc Risk : The grounds are so clean here , the only way to lose a disc is the lake on hole #2 .

.

Cons:

#1 Safety : I mentioned before that there was what looks like a small sinkhole directly in the fairway of #3 . If you were looking at a scorecard or not paying attention , you will tear up a knee or break an ankle . It's 3 feet deep right now . At least you are in the right place if something happens .
#2 Rollaways : Even though disc risk is low , I have to mention that , because the slope is angled here and #2 is 360' and plays more like 400' + , there is the chance that your driver or midrange may hop up on it's edge and roll into the pond .
4 , as it's only 4 holes . It's more of a compliment . They did so well with 4 holes . Imagine what a 9 hole course would look like . On the downside , after being there for maybe a total of 15 minutes , I wasn't sure if I was really there or not .
Allowable Play ? : Since this is on hospital grounds , I wasn't sure if I the course was open to the public , or if it is just for the employees to throw a round during break or after their shift ?

Other Thoughts:

I still don't think that 4 holes qualify as a course , but the way that they care for the ones that they have are remarkable .
I think that Redhawk may scare some newbies away . These 4 holes are perfect for introducing and explaining the game of disc golf to someone . It is really a park style environment .
What an interesting way to introduce your hospital to the public . Stick 4 holes of disc golf at the end of a long driveway , where you will pass ALL of the buildings before parking and during your exit .
You hit it out of the park with the 4 holes you installed here . Thanks , Southern Tennessee Regional Health System , for helping the game of disc golf grow , and for allowing me to play on your grounds .
My Recommendation : Perfect for Introducing the game and for newbies , even for a local family to walk over and play an after dinner or weekend round , and hospital employees looking to grab 15 minutes of exercise . It is scenic here , but I can't imagine that a local would come here unless they lived nearby , and they only had 15 minutes to spare . Intermediates and up will go to the nearby course for their fix . Travelers and Course Collectors will like that this is a fast play , then back on the road . Don't stop here unless you are in the area , but if you have 15 minutes to take in some scenery and take a good walk while throwing a few holes , Come And See It !

Better Than Many 9 Hole Courses 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 19, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

(1.541 Rating) This is the second time I've played a shockingly good 4 basket course.
- BEGINNER FRIENDLY - A very beginner and recreational friendly layout, probably even more so than the red to red layout at the nearby Red Hawk course. The only issue that a beginner or rec player might have is the pond that's located 60 feet left of number (2's) basket. I suppose that a long left directed misfire could drop in the pond. I'll also point out that there is just about no overgrowth here and the hole lengths are very much on the shorter side.
- CHAINS - DISCatchers that are in immaculate shape.
- TEES - Nice sized, well constructed and newly poured concrete tees.
- SIGNAGE - Solid course map near tee (1) and professional done tee signage.
- NAVIGATION - Open enough to see all tees signs from just about any spot on the course. I had absolutely no issues in traversing this course.
- QUICK PLAY - With the onsite course map and hole signage, I was able to blow through this course in 10 minutes. I could see employees of the medical center coming out to run the holes over a break.
- ELEVATION - A nice 30 foot down shot for the finishing hole.
- MAINTENANCE - Mowed grass throughout, no tree limbs or branches on the course and it's trash free. The course was in great shape on my visit.
- NATURAL BEAUTY - About average, but for courses I've rated this low, the average score for beauty brought the total rating up. The gentle sloping terrain that the layout is on has a relaxing feel to it and the pond has a nice fountain as well.

Cons:

Only 4 baskets really affects the playability of The Links.
- LACK OF CHALLENGE - Should be played as all 3s by everyone above the recreation level. I could definitely see an advanced player shooting 4 deuces every 7 or 8 rounds out here. Shot shaping is limited and the longer throwers could probable leave their driver in the car.
- CHARACTER - The basics were done amazingly, Tees, Baskets, Signage. However, that's where it ends. There aren't any multi tees or alternate baskets or a practice basket. No finishing shelter with picnic tables or tee seating. There's most definitely a restroom inside the medical center, but guests probably can't use it.
- UNIQUENESS - With only four holes, this layout is very much lacking in variety. There's a nice elevation shot on (4), Water is along the left on (2). However, (1) and (3) both have a run of mill city park feel to them with a few random trees along the line to the basket.
- PRIVATE SIGNS - The course map states in big bold letters "Welcome". However, near tee (3) there is a sign that says trespassers with be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. So which is it?
- SPACING - I've seen much tighter layouts but this course is still a bit of a squeeze on the site. I could see someone teeing from (3) and airmailing a disc up to basket (1).
- WIND - Not too many trees here so wind may be a big issue.

Other Thoughts:

This is a great example of what a small unusable parcel of land can be for disc golf. I wish there were more 4 and 6 holes courses like this to bring the game to another area. The Links probably isn't going to bring a large following due to the great course across the street, but this addition will definitely allow the town residents the opportunity to switch it up on occasion.

Disc Golf at a Hospital 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 15, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

Whoever decided to have this course went all out for only 4 holes. The course has an official name, there is a kiosk with map, professional tee signs (each hole is nicknamed for a local city), numbered yellow Discatcher baskets, and even superb concrete tees. Installing 4 baskets and some basic ball-golf style tee markers would have been totally acceptable and justified here- so I appreciate the total commitment.]

This is a park style course- mostly open and grassy with a few trees to avoid. Normal hole lengths with good variety, and #2 is a plenty long, plus #4 is a fun downhill finishing hole.

A good place to introduce somebody to disc golf: short round, exposes them to the object of the game without the fear of losing discs, but not boring either.

Cons:

Only 4 holes, too bad they don't have a little more room to put in 9. I literally played the course in 5 minutes. Would be easy to master for any level of experienced disc golf after a couple rounds.

Other Thoughts:

This little course is at a medical center almost right across the street from the East Athletic Campus of Martin Methodist College, which has a disc golf course as well. I thought this was the Red Hawk Course at first when I saw the land, the small lake, and a basket in a grassy field (you know the thought we all have "looks like a good spot for a course, oh wait, there is a basket!") But it was not the course I was there to play (which happened to be closed anyways), so I got to accidentally play these 4 holes instead.

I am not sure what the intention of this course is, being at a medical center and all. It did not appear to be private (no signs saying patients or employees only). In fact, it was quite welcoming with the nice kiosk. But hey, why not. Hopefully it will serve its purpose.

My 1.5 rating (Passable) is not a knock on the quality of this course, but more of the fact that there is only 4 holes, plus the fact that right across the street is a 9 hole course with two sets of tees and 2 permanent baskets.
