With so many park disc golf courses in Socal, it's hard to tell them apart sometimes. That's what happened to Twila-Reid Park on a recent trip to the area. I played so many courses that I actually forgot about this one. Honestly most of the courses out here are very similar... it seems like if have a city park you should stick a disc golf course in it. It takes something above and beyond to really to really stand out from the rest. Twila-Reid Park somewhat struggles in this department, but a couple of looks at the media pics online, then the course map, and quickly my memory was jogged back into place.
When I arrived at Twila-Reid Park I was greeted by some locals practicing some drives from an area that wasn't on the course. "Oh look", I thought, "another unmarked layout out here on a course I don't know anything about. Can I even play?" Within a few seconds though I realized they were just practicing to a basket over the hill. I was safe to carry on to hole 1 without getting hit.
The course itself is medium length and fairly open. Most of the holes are around the 300 foot mark, and for the most part are clearly defined. Hole 1 was a great little thumber for me over the hill. I actually hit the basket on the drive. Holes 2 through 6 link their way through the east side of the park. There are a few trees to contend with, but nothing major. Holes 7-9 are on the opposite side of the park, and really have a different feel. The trees are thicker, and the lines are different. I enjoyed the change.
The park itself was well maintained and very busy with joggers, families, and other folks enjoying a beautiful afternoon. Restrooms were nearby, and I think I even saw a concession stand near the tennis courts.
Teepads were concrete, and baskets were in good shape. Most of the holes were relatively easy to find using the map from this site. Holes 7-9 were probably the most challenging... but I found my way.
All in all a decent course...
- Concrete pads
- Nice baskets
- Clean park
- Loads of parking
- Restrooms
- Concessions
- Easy course
