Pros:
New course in a new park with only one other activity, a large fenced in dog park.
New white banded DD Veteran baskets are great, they even used the ""next tee"" arrows on the bottom of the basket (I had to adjust the one on #14).
Large concrete tee pads on every hole, they are a good size, only a few are not aligned correctly, #4 I'm looking at you!
Only one tee per hole, but just about every hole has two pin positions. Most were in the long position the day I was there.
Also good tee signs on every hole, showing both pin positions. Quite a few Next Tee signs, although several were not needed (next tee was in sight) and they were missing one where it's really needed, to #15 tee.
Open holes and wooded holes, the open holes are the first 7, so if you like those, enjoy them while you can.
The grass was cut to a good height when I was there, white PVC pipes show the pin positions not being used, so you can usually spot the short ones from the tee.
Restrooms on the way from the parking lot to the first tee, very convenient.
Cons:
It looks like this property was formerly a farm, shoot, there are still cows in the next property over. The area where #10 and #11 are used to be the trash/dump area, you can still see broken glass on the fairway, they did a pretty good job of cleaning this up, but watch your step.
As I mentioned above, the open holes are all in the first seven, with wooded holes the rest of the way (#14 is only partially wooded). It would have been great if these were mixed in better, but that's what is available on the property.
The holes really tighten up and get longer as the round goes on (13-18), be sure to save something for these later holes. The upkeep on these holes are not the same as the rest of the course, the grass is longer, the rough is thicker and they just need some work.
#18 is a pretty tough, crazy angle finishing hole. The sign shows a RH Hyzer hole, through tight woods. I walked it first and it keeps going around the corner to a guarded basket position, in the long position. Once you get back to the tee, you really notice an angled tree blocking the left side of the fairway. To get around that tree and still hyzer around the fairway, through scattered trees, all the way back to the basket, is pretty tough.
Other Thoughts:
A really good addition to the great amount of courses in this part of the state. Except for the small college course nearby, there's not another course for nearly 20 miles. Surprised to also spot a Disc store in Greeneville (combo with a bike shop), but it was closed when I stopped.
Pretty cool winding through this small town, head out to the farm land, and there's the park, with Disc Golf and Dog Park listed on the park sign! The gravel is pretty rough on the road in a parking but not too bad. The course is listed as opening in 2020, I don't know if all the Pros I listed (Baskets, Tees, Signage) were in place when the course opened, but its good to see a new course opened the right way.
While the open holes were mostly open, there were a few trees on each that required shot shaping. The best of these was #5, a Par 4 at 519' when I was there, the tee shot is on a slight elevation, semi-tunnel off the tee turning right, with thick trees down the left. After that, its wide open to the wide open green, beautiful and fun hole.
After that, #8 is a shorty, downhill, very tight, then #9-#12 are all heavily wooded of varying length and direction.
Then, they get long and challenging, with various lines to hit off the tee, and thick woods most of the length of the holes. #13 and #15 had the toughest lines to hit, but they seemed fair to me, after you clear those, they do open up around the green. #16 had the most open tee shot, but the path to the long pin, is a sharp left turn, protected by a clump of trees.
Probably the best of these holes is #17, 400' and Par 4 to the long pin, generous fairway, but about 150' out, there's a clump of trees and bushes in the middle, as it turns left. Clear that, then you have another 250' to a narrowing fairway, with thick rough on both sides. It's too bad this is not the finishing hole, its a much better hole than #18.
Overall, this is a good addition to the list of East Tennessee courses, not in the caliber of the best ones, but its a good start. More upkeep on the Back 9 and varying the pin positions better, this one will get a lot of attention. Even heard from a local player that there should be another new course in Greeneville soon.
