I'm sure she tried to do what she did in round one. If we could always do what we try to do on the course, the game would be a lot less frustrating (and dramatic).
Every once in a while Paige just completely loses her timing, and she no longer has much of any control over where the disc goes...
From my observations, most people with bad nose-up issues are collapsing their shoulder (aka "rounding", aka "hugging yourself") and throwing off their back foot. Attempts to treat the symptom ("nose up") don't work if these core issues aren't addressed first.
For extreme hills, if the ground is level a couple feet to the right of your lie (assuming RHBH), you can start with your back foot there and essentially perform a "one-leg drill" throw. It will look like you're setting up for a "patent-pending", but it's different, because you don't need to...
The general recommendation for uphill shots is to throw a more understable disc than normal on a hyzer release. It's much easier to throw a hyzer on an upwards trajectory, so you'll get more power that way.
Realistically, an uphill shot is just not going to go as far, because you're fighting...
Yes, it's absolutely possible to have a nose-down release from a high reach-back. Ultimately, the path the disc takes into the power pocket doesn't matter much as long as everything else is moving in the right directions.
Ezra's tip is great que to counter-act the common amateurs' mistake of...
"Elbow Out"
I had always had a bad habit of dropping the elbow of my throwing arm down toward my hip, which results in a weak T-Rex throw. The common que of "Elbow UP" hadn't clicked for me. I was exaggerating the "up" during the reach back, which caused me to naturally drop it during the...
I have tremendous respect for Bradley Walker's classic content. His "Closed Shoulder Drill" video ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LffYBb1vQjQ ) fixed so many misunderstandings for me and still holds up to this day. However, this video feels like hyperbolic fluff.
It's important to realize...
A small scoring separation on individual holes (which I think is what Cgkdisc was refering to) means that playing a hole well and mediocre tends to result in the same score, which is lame and boring. The ultimate hole for "keeping it close" in MPO would be a wide open 700ft with no wind, no...
I believe the primary motivation for buying / trying new equipment in any sport is that it's fun. Those first throws have an extra level of excitement, because you really don't know what's going to happen. It keeps things fresh and brings back a little chunk of that feeling of discovery you...
Thanks! It looks like the only hole that dramatically shifts when going from correlation with Total Score to Player Rating is Eureka Hole 5 (Baseball Field). That totally makes sense, because missing that drive is an immediate loss of two strokes, making it a very high-leverage hole. Some of...
I love these plots. Thanks for all the work in providing them.
The data tells everything about Eureka Hole 3. It feels like every single card has a player park it by sneaking to the "wrong" gap on the right near the end of the tunnel and another player go OB by coming closer to pureing the...
As a side note, ultimatums like this are exactly why I'm not at all excited by the idea of encouraging team-based competition. Threatening Simon for not skipping out on his PDGA Tour event(s) would just lead to resentment and hard-feelings. It's unfair and unnecessary.
I love the global...
All the top US players accepted the honor of competing for glory in the Presidents Cup. I don't think you're actually blaming the players here, but it's unfair to say they don't care about good international competition.
I have nothing against the WFDF, but it's very obvious that this event...
At Ledgestone, Paige Pierce averaged 1002 round ratings to score -25 on three rounds a Sunset Hills. I haven't heard anything about how Northwood Blue plays for the women, but it feels like the kind of course that would play at or above par. I guess that a -30 would be extremely good for the...
