If you use conduit fitting you can get a slip to male thread adapter and put a lock ring on the back side. I did that to my chimp when it got kinda loose.

In regards to washing, after an "amigo" of mine kicked mine into some dank creek water I gave it a soak in hot water with oxyclean. Two years in the dirt and still looks (and now smells) fresh. Love it.

Fine sidewalk works good too. It also makes a nice grippy patch on the top of premium plastic if you wanna try that out too.
