Let's head to lovely Santa Barbara! We will be playing three rounds of 18 holes, two rounds on Saturday and one round on Sunday, all at the excellent Cachuma Lake disc golf courses that have become quite a destination. There will be two pools of up to 72 players each. Pools will be constructed based upon the numbers of registrants in each division. Awards will take place on Sunday after completion of the third round.
Two important things that all who wish to register need to read and know:
1) Registration is only open to current SoCal DGC members for the first week, through Tuesday Oct. 8. If you are not a current SoCal DGC member you will be dropped from the event and refunded your entry, less DGU fees. After Oct. 8, all remaining spots will be opened to any interested players.
2) THIS IS A TROPHY-ONLY EVENT. Trophies will be awarded to the top finishers in each division. For larger divisions there will be trophies for the top three finishers, for smaller divisions it will be for the top one or two finishers (we will be generous). What this means is that we are playing for the pleasure of competition and one another's company, a shot at a trophy finish and a chance to play an event at a really great facility. And, as we showed last year, the trophies will be very nice. There will be no other prizes awarded. Coming in 7th in MA3, MA50 or any other division will not get you two discs and a sticker!
Accordingly, all players will receive a generous players pack which will include two custom 2019 SoCal Champs event stamped premium discs with the very cool custom stamp (thank you Innova and Legacy!), a custom event polo shirt and a Innova water bottle. We will also enjoy Alfredo's BBQ on Saturday night as part of the event. In addition to the players pack, entry fees will cover course green fees, sanctioning and insurance, and fees of $3 to the PDGA and $2 to SoCal Disc Golf Club for all. $10 will be charged and paid to the PDGA for each non- or non-current PDGA member, $5 additional if not a current SoCal DGC member (when registration opens to non-members).
Probable Schedule:
Saturday player check in 7:15 to 8:15am. Player meeting 8:30am. Round 1 9:00am Tee-off. Round 2 approximately 1:30pm Tee-off. BBQ dinner Saturday evening.
Sunday Player meeting 8:30am. Round 3 9:00am Tee-off. Awards to follow at approximately 1:00pm.
There must be three players in a given division for that division to play in the tournament. If there are less than three players in that division when the event is filled we will contact those registered and offer them a chance to play in another division or receive a refund. That said, we will be happy to add more junior divisions as requested. Contact us if you know a junior who would prefer to play solo in their own division.
Want more of that amazing logo? We have some fine custom stamped CFR discs for sale as well. How about Color Glow Corvettes and Color Glow Teebirds (your choice)? All proceeds from CFR sales will go to increase the player experience. (if we sell enough CFR discs there are some excellent breweries nearby...)
Want to camp onsite? Here's the link to make your reservation to do just that. Put the correct date and Cachuma Lake into the search: https://countyofsb.org/parks/reserveinfo.sbc
Thanks go out to the good folks at Innova Champion Disc Golf, Legacy Disc Golf (the Ricos and SoCal DGC Board member and all-around great guy Mike Byrne) and especially Hugh Montgomery, Mike Roberts and the Santa Barbara crew who have made Cachuma the destination that it is.
Hope to see you there,
Bill Maury-Holmes (with Hugh Montgomery),
