Highbridge Hills - Wisconsin

Was it worth killing a 150 page active DGCR thread? Probably not.

Even though it was a post in this very thread that triggered my initial action, this thread has never been about Highbridge Hills. It's always been about Highbridge Hills drama. I do sincerely appreciate and want to thank the true supporters, don't get me wrong. But, yeah ...

Happy Thanksgiving! Mountain Man

Well, however it turns out, I just want to say that Mountain Man has done more for disc golf than 99% of disc golfers will ever do, and particularly for any disc golfers who had a chance to play at Highbridge Hills since he rescued it.
2nd that! I was never going to make the drive up there when JJ was running the place and you never knew what shape you would find it in upon arrival. Thanks to MM, I finally got to play highbridge 2 summers ago.

Sounds like they are going to sell some land to keep the hill alive. The Bear and current Woodland Greens will be gone.

-Granite Ridge to have 3 pads/3 baskets modeled after Rollin Ridge

-Big plans/improvements for Blueberry Hill led by Chuck Kennedy

-New Woodland Greens clone

-Highbridge to become a non-profit/foundation

-RV hookups

-Showers

-Tom's land in Ironwood (45 minutes NE) to be "Highbridge North" with three courses?

> Yep On that Ironwood ' Highbridge North " I Played It With MM Himself / Circa 2017 ? . We Played I Believe 35 Holes, Teed off @ 830 Am , Finished About 12:15 . Pretty Sure That Will Be Turned Into a 27 ! , The Other Course was a 19 , short N' technical .For Reference He Had Alot Of help With Scottie " UpShot " Spending ALot of Time Working UP There !!!!!!!!!

I take all this with a grain of salt. For obvious reasons.

First takes from what I got from this thread.

1) Like Monocacy said, what's up with Gold? Losing Bear is terrible. MM had that course playing as one of my legit all time favorites last time I played it. Woodland was a great compliment to the other bruisers on site. If they add another course akin to that that'd be ideal.

2) Last time I played Blueberry it was pretty heavily redesigned. Like freshly cut fairways in places while retaining many of the classic holes. I definitely liked old hole 2 being the new hole 1. That makes the most sense. Old hole 18 was lackluster, while the new 18 was much better, though nearly identical to Granite 18.

3) Where are these RV hookups and campsites going to be located? Showers would be great too. Just unsure where all this is going to be located.

4) When can we expect these things to be in place?

5) The most important one. MM is the man. The work he did up on the hill is borderline miraculous as of the last time I played it in August of 2022. I had a couple buddies from work who played it this past August who vouched for it's awesomeness. Whatever Tom decides to do here has my backing. 100%. If it's open next year in any capacity I'll be back. Regardless of the future, Tom is THE man.

Mountain Man posted the below along with an 'open for the season' message on Facebook.

I thought Gold was undergoing a bit of an overhaul that would see it looking a bit different than it used to. From this map - it looks like the only real changes are to 11-12 and 14-15 and relatively minor?

Hey! Anyone know what is going on up at Highbridge? I am penciling in a fall trip and would love to know the status of the venue and all the courses.

Everything should be open and good to go. I know he's having trouble keeping up with the mowing with the enormous amount of rain the midwest has received. Currently there's prob some soggy and overgrown spots, but by fall I'd imagine those issues should be alleviated.

I would recommend following Highbridge on the book of faces...
He seems to post regularly there.

Planning to be up at Highbridge the first week in Oct. Looks like they cancelled a tournament the second week. Any news??

I was just up there this weekend.

First off, thanks again UP Mountain Man for all you have done for HBH, its truly an awesome place. Definitely in my Top 5 (3 ?) days of Disc Golf.

Blueberry and Granite are in great shape, in fact, Granite was mowed so recently, that there was cut grass on most of the fairways. Woodlands is a little shaggy in places, but no soft or muddy spots. The Playground was also cut and in fine shape.

I got a couple of looks at The Bear and from what I saw, it looked fine. Also good looks at Gold, 1,18, 9,10,13,14,17 and the Epic #8, from the tee! It looked like all fairways have been cut.

I asked Mountain Man earlier this month on FB, and he said they had no more Events lined up this year.

Thanks for the update, Pete. Sounds like you had a great time.

Sure thing, it let me brag about what I did last weekend. :) And it's Paul!!

When you got to Highbridge, do you go thru CHItown, take the ferry, or go through the UP?

We are taking the ferry across and hitting Rollin' Ridge, before going to Minneapolis for some rounds on BRP and The Preserve courses. Heading to HB from there. Then through the UP, back home.

Sorry, Paul.

Wow, that's a lot of upper tier courses.
Let me know if you stop at any of the courses in the Eau Claire area, I'll still be here. I've been updating the CCs on all that I play, so those are current. The Leinie's course is pretty good, also a Cale design.
If you don't stop, be sure to wave as you drive by!! :ROFLMAO:

So I spent a couple days on the hill this week. Made a project out of emptying the garbage containers on the teepads, and picking up what loose garbage I came across. Gonna head over and finish the project this afternoon and tomorrow.

Because I call Highbridge my home course, I've decided to spend a couple days a week helping John with course maintenance. Hopefully clean up around the edges, we'll have to see how it goes.

With that in mind, could you all do me a favor, and keep this thread alive? Use it for suggestions, comments, concerns, etc, from your recent visits.

Keep it to disc golf concerns only please, I'm not interested in working on or discussing the accommodations :)

My first priority is garbage. Next is paths, fairways, greens, and cleaning up the edges.

Quick question, do you think marker flags as reference points along some problem fairways would help mark your discs flight for quick recovery?

BTW I was with Ric Roc at the BB cabin that weekend ... good time was had by all!
Wow, just pulled this from Page 1 of this thread, UP Mountain Man donating his time years ago!!

One suggestion MM - on Blueberry #6, after finishing the hole, I took the large path to the right, which led me to #11. So I backtracked and found the Next Tee sign on the back side of the tree. If you could put a LEFT Next Tee sign on a tree that you will see as you walk up the fairway/green, that would help Newbs like me!! Please and thank you.
