Challenging 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 17, 2008 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

A great challenging course that provides you with a new challenge every time you play. With more holes in the woods then open spaces it really makes you work on your accuracy; yet there are plenty of holes that allow you to air it out.

Cons:

This is a really busy course with a lot of new players. If you value your time I suggest you come during the off hours.

Some of the tee placements a little crazy for new players (#1 over a pond and #18 through the trees)

Other Thoughts:

Great course, but get their early enough so you are not stuck behind groups.

2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Oct 15, 2008 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

A multi use park in a quiet suburb with a good mix of open and wooded holes along with some water hazards. This is an older disc golf park that has seen heavy use and multiple design refinements. Holes have mutilple teeboxes and pin placements.

Has a very good mix of left, right, uphill and downhill shots as well as water hazards. It even has a few holes for those guys that want to air it out. A very good course for an intermediate player. Most holes are not long. I particulary like the uphill wooded holes because they aren't seen in other wooded Mn courses commonly. This isn't a woods course but it is very close with many holes playing into or out of the woods.

Baskets are generally in good shape and parking is good as well. Leagues and tournaments play here regularly.

Cons:

Very heavily used with lines common starting at about 3p in the warm months. Typically has many larger groups of newer players. Most will let you play through. Teeboxes show age with some being broken up a bit. Signage used to be up but removed by idiocy on most holes.

Other Thoughts:

Hole 1 is over water so warm up if it concerns you. All but 2 holes are very typical drive, chip and putt holes with a 2 or ace possible with a good drive. Another in the line of Mn courses that are older but show how well an old course can hold up even with all the changes to discs in the years since it was first played. This is one of the handful of courses that older Mn players cut their disc golf teeth on.

2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 6, 2008 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

A good variety of shots, as well as an assortment of pin placements. Water comes into play on holes 1, 8, and 9. Many narrow fairways as well as trees, so accuracy is key. Some open long holes to give you a chance to throw one a little harder, but most holes are relatively short.

Cons:

There's usually this weird old guy near the pond at number one that tries to sell you discs that he has most probably fished out of the water. Both ponds are very gross, so if you throw your disc in, enter at your own risk. Most holes are near other holes, so you always have to keep your eyes and ears open so you don't get beamed by an errant throw.

Respectable 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 4, 2008 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

This course has several challenging holes, and presents some opportunities to practice a variety of throws.

Relatively technical course, excellent opportunity to practice your tree dodging skills.

Cons:

Not a good course for newbies...Go with someone who knows where they are going. Also you may spend a fair amount of time looking for your errant throws on this course. If you are a beginner play with good spotters so you don't lose your discs.

There are not too many holes that big arms can't reach in 1 throw.

Other Thoughts:

Next tee signs would be nice... and having clearly marked hole distance and direction would be highly beneficial.

buried in the leaves 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 18, 2008 Played the course:once

Pros:

Fun course with a nice layout. Asphalt tee pads add for extra grip off throws, but are rarely needed

Cons:

Lots of slow players, and so many leaves you can lose your disc in late fall. Tough to navigate for first timers, go with someone who knows.

Other Thoughts:

I had a blast on this course, although it could be not busy.

2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Aug 19, 2008 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Interesting little course with a great opening hole over the water. Watch out to make sure you do not throw your disc in the water or else you may not get it back.

Cons:

Pretty short with some open holes that make it good for a beginner to start. Also a few really short holes that feel like puts.

Great Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 2, 2008 Played the course:never

Pros:

Great mix of short technical holes with many longer holes. Many trees and water hazards make even shorter holes difficult sometimes. 18 holes is always nice. Right next to fairway flyers disc golf shop, great place to test new discs

Cons:

very crowded on weekends and during peak rec hours. Lots of first timers travel in large groups and slow play to a crawl.

Other Thoughts:

One of my overall favorite course to play!

Straight Forward pitch and putt 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Oct 1, 2009 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

- Good use of the available land
- Easy to navigate
- Lots of large mature trees
- Fair amount of trash cans
- Small rolling hills
- Dogs allowed
- Rough is punishing but not overgrown and difficult to play in
- Dual tees
- Multiple pins

Cons:

- Poor tee signs
- Small, skinny asphalt teepads
- Repeatitive, essentially every hole is straight with the basket either slightly left or right. Although distances change the shot doesn't.
- Area around pads are not always level or in goo shape.

Other Thoughts:

A good course in an area with alot of GREAT courses. Acorn park is really simple and straight forward. Its a good course to get you warmed up for the many other fantastic Twin Cities disc golfing. I've only ever played from the pros as the am pads would just be ridiculously easy.
The formula for the course design provides no unique quality to the course. Considering all the courses in the Twin Cities this course doesn't stand out as anything fantastic. First time through I easily shot well under par. If you're going to be in the area for awhile then hit this course up, if you're limited on time don't even bother.

Favorite hole #15 - From pro tee in the left pin placement. Down a tunnel of woods with a few large trees down the center. The fairway has a slight rise to it then drops quickly down to the basket on the left. Skips and rolls are common near the basket. Several trees and bushes guard the basket. A simple straight shot with a slight flat fade.

Over The Hills and Through The Woods 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:May 21, 2008 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

The most hills of any course I have ever played on (sofar), and lots of trees makes for an interesting game. Precision does count, and knowing how to tomahawk/thumb, as well as bend it both ways, will greatly help you in this course. A few lakes in play make for an added element of danger that always spices things up. Terrain in play, in several ways, on every single hole. The scary thing is, holes that at first seemed unusual, like an uphill slight dogleg threading though trees, might start to blur together by about hole 8, but they are still varied and interesting.

Also, most of the holes have dual concrete tees, and the rest have a marked alt tee.

This course has a lot of variety, most notably that it has significant amounts of water, trees, AND elevation in play. Few courses that I've played have as much of all three, they usually lack one or another, so this course is a great way to get a taste of everything.

It's a Twin City Classic, a very mature course that's been broken in by countless golfers before you, but still fun and challenging today. This course shows its age, but that's a good thing, because it makes it a very comfortable place to play.

Cons:

The holes, though plenty long, seem crammed into their space like sardines, sometimes butting up against one another. There is not much of a natural progression to get to the next hole. Like, to get to hole 3 from 2, you pass by tee 16 and through the middle of 12 if you aren't careful, stuff like that (i used arbitrary hole #s there, but you get the point).

This is further compounded by the lack of maps at the tee boxes. The concrete pads are only sometimes color-coded with painted wooden posts (white-short, red-long) and its easy to not even see the other tee(s) entirely.

Also, its very crowded, so be prepared to wait around a lot. The overall level of player seemed lower than what I was used to seeing at other courses, but that can be a good thing since it makes you look better in comparison, and feel better about your mistakes after seeing all their mediocre throws.

The concrete tees are on the smaller side, and are showing their age. Many are uneven and rounded on the edges, and abruptly drop off several inches to the surrounding area. As a result, sometimes you feel cramped when you drive and have to compact your run-up, which is annoying.

This course has many interesting holes, and none feel like filler holes, but few of these holes have that wow factor that makes you excited to tell your buddies about them. If you are looking for things like elevated pins, terraced greens, island pins, or epic views, look elsewhere, because this park has none of those things.

Other Thoughts:

Simple, but good. A solid, very fun course with good terrain and decent concrete pads, but not nice or fancy. It's got what you need, but not the little extras you might want.
