Great variety in a beautiful park 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 10, 2020 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

- Almost every hole presents a different challenge.
- Fun for intermediate players; challenging but not discouraging for beginners.
- Tee pads, baskets, and course in general are all in excellent shape.
- Historic and beautiful park with gentle slopes, some woods, and grand old trees.
- Don't be scared by the 2 "water" holes. #4 has a very small creek (with an outsized gravitational pull), and #9 has a river but it's way beyond the basket.

Cons:

- The info posts at each hole are old and could use a refresh.
- Veteran players will find this course too easy.
- No par 5s, and hole #5 is loud and distracting (between a busy street and the park's public pool).

Other Thoughts:

I love this course, and for good reason. You know when you go to a restaurant and they have an amazing menu, and you wish you could get a small taste of everything? Welcome to Adler Park, a buffet of nine modest, delicious portions presenting different flavor profiles.

There are tree-lined tunnels to negotiate as well as a wide open field to bomb. Some baskets are well guarded, some are blind, others are just sitting out there daring you to run that long putt. And while there's almost no way you'll lose a disc, there are plenty of opportunities to scramble.

If Adler Park had an equally fun back nine with a couple of par 5s, it would be darn near perfect.

Adler Park Review 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 15, 2014 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Very well maintained. Nice course layout with good tee pads and signs. A nice variety of elevation and open and wooded holes.

Cons:

Some baskets are old and need to be repaired or replaced. Only one long hole, making the difficulty pretty low. If the baskets were fixed I would rate this 4.5

Other Thoughts:

Really like this course. It's in a beautiful park where, everytime I play, is completely empty. It amazes me how nobody is ever here. Makes it nice for me though, I enjoy the quiet and being able to take my time. It's only 9 holes, but 9 ends where 1 begins so I usually play through a couple times. If you're in the area I definitely recommend playing here.

good 9-holer 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 9, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

good tee pads
nice variety between wooded and open holes
good signs
no overly simple holes
thin rough, it is very easy to find discs
beautiful park

Cons:

not enough distance variation
can get busy on weekends
they could have made better use of the space

Other Thoughts:

This was a nice 9-holer that is better than most around the area, but there is nothing special about it.

Best 9 holer north of Chicago 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 10, 2013 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

+Very challenging 9 hole course.
+Course will test most advanced players.
+Birdies are extremely rewarding.
+Good mixture of tight wooded holes and semi-open bombers.
+Decent elevation change.
+Some possible ace runs.
+Nice baskets and big concrete tee pads.
+Good front signage.

Cons:

-Multi-use park. In the summer there is often a camp occupying the the park which can make playing difficult.
-Lots of mosquitoes.
-Hole 4 is virtually an impossible tee shot.
-I feel like they could make a few holes in the woods. This course could be 18 if the land was used to its full potential.

Other Thoughts:

Course is located in a fantastic park. Great design for a 9 hole course. The best 9 hole course in Illinois that i have played. My friends and I often travel half an hour out to this course.

Fun Tuesday Dubbs 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 7, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

Nice park with plenty of room for improvement, lots of nice people who like to enjoy a fun round here. For being a 9 hole course had some fun holes with some slight elevation, some longer bomber holes and some shorter technical ones

Cons:

The baskets are garbage and barely catch discs, lots of punks coming through talking trash during the league

Other Thoughts:

Coming from MN I know good courses and bad courses and this one was worth my time to enjoy with my GF. We played the dubbs league and she was paired with the defending amateur world champion!!

Diamond in the Rough of Chicagoland 9 Hole Courses 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 27, 2012 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Plenty of variety here in terms of hole length and wooded vs open holes.

While there are no mountains, the available elevation in this park is used well.

Easy navigation even without next tee signs.

Concrete tee pads are in good shape.

Great view of the mighty Des Plaines River from #9's tee.

Restrooms are typically open Memorial Day---Labor Day.

Park is open until 9:30 pm all year for the glow rounds.

Rec/INT level players typically find this course to be a challenge, especially on the windy days.

Cons:

This multi-use park can become very crowded during the summer months. Day camp and other activities occasionally ignore the disc golfers. Please be sure to wait or skip a hole when necessary.

Mud during the spring and fall seasons is very prevalent here.

Some consider the uphill walk back to the parking lot after #9 to be a drag...but it's really not that far.

Other Thoughts:

Alternate tees on every hole add good variety here. Some may be difficult to find. Ask a local or a course guide for assistance if you are interested.

As previously stated, this park is very busy during most "good-weather days". There is a pool/water park, summer day camp and other activities. Please be aware of other park users and yield to them when necessary.

Great Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:May 1, 2012 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

-Each hole has concrete tee pads that are in great shape.
-Wide variety of holes that will let you test multiple types of shots.
-The holes are all maintained and make it easy to find stray discs
-The very beginning of the course has a detailed map of the holes with the park rules.
-Each hole has a marker that states the distance and position of the pin

Cons:

-Parts of the course retain water which make it annoying to play after it rains
-Hole #4 has a lot of trees that interfere with drives but with good/lucky placement it is avoidable.

Other Thoughts:

This is probably the best 9 hole course in the area and worth a play through if you are in the area. Best of luck and avoid the mud!

Longstanding classic 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 28, 2010 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

- Variety holes, some deep woods, others in open fields
- Variety of shots needed to play a successful round.
- Good use of terrain to make fun and interesting hole layouts.
- Good length variation
- Fairways were well groomed.
- Decent/good elevation changes.
- Memorable holes (#2, #3, #9)
- Generous par
- Sufficient concrete tee pads.
- Tee signs with par, distance and a picture.
- Large sign with a map at the first tee.
- Bathrooms are sometimes open.

Cons:

- The baskets are rather old and could be updated.
- Long walks between holes (look at the map before hole one before playing.)
- Can get very sloppy when it rains.
- Lots of traffic, tends to be a lot of newer players lately.
- The river on hole #9 can eat discs if you over drive it.

Other Thoughts:

Adler is an older yet fantastic course. It was the first course I ever played disc golf on. It used to be an 18 hole course, but was redone to accommodate the pool complex from what I have heard. With the current set up there are some long walks between holes. Personally I think they have enough room to put in a few more holes. It is debateably the most challenging courses in Northern Illinois and has some memorable holes. Especially #2 and #3 which play through majestic corridors of mature trees. I have to drive 30 minutes to get to this course, yet return many times a year. Maybe not a course to plan a road trip around, but definitely a course to hit on the way. I would even drive a couple hours to experience it once.

Pros:

One of the best 9 hole courses in northern Illinois, challenging and makes you play a variety of shots.

Cons:

Could have a few longer holes or just more holes period like I have heard it did in the 90's. Busy almost everyday during the summer but still worth it.

Great 9 holer with lots of trees and woods. 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 2, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

1) This is a great course set in a very wooded picturezue park. It has all sorts of other activities and a great 9 hole course. Apparently it used to be 18 holes and could certainly have the potential for another 9 set in that wooded area to the right of #2.

2) Sledhill on #9 is a great disc golf hole (while being a weak sledding hill). It is a gradual slope but the wind will most likely play a little havoc. You are throwing downhill and with the normal prevailing wind so the disc will travel!

3) Big concrete pads are nice to throw off of with plenty of room to make your normal desired approach.

4) Nice big sign at the beginning of the course and a diagram of all of the holes.

5) Although old baskets . . . they seem to still catch just fine!

6) Lawn areas are well maintained.

7) Distance is an average of over 300' which is nice for an older park style course. I like the challenge that goes with it.

Cons:

1) Wooded holes can get a little uddy as the mulch is thin in spots. Dirt around the concrete tees and baskets could also use some mulch to help clean things up a little bit and provide a little better looking course.

2) Walk from 6-7 is a little long, but at least it takes you from one area to the next avoiding crossing paths with pedestrians on the walk path.

3) From 7 green to 8 tee is confusing. I kept walking towards #9 tee without realizing #8 tee is set into the woods to the right. It is far enough away from the basket on #7 they need to have a direction sign (unless I missed it).

4) There is no clear line on a few of the holes . . maybe it is easier to develop some lines if playing the course many times, but specifically #4 there is almost no way to get close to the basket! Lots of plinko trees!

5) Bug spray is a requirement!

6) Definitely not a beginner friendly course because of distance and tight wooded holes. Even the open holes on grass have a lot of mature trees that will most certainly frustrate the beginner.

Other Thoughts:

This is a very old fairly well maintained property. It is certainly an old school park course using the best features of the park. Dense woods, tunnel shots through rows of mature trees, a few open ripper holes, and some holes with well placed trees to create the shot making requirements.

The only thing keeping this course from a higher rating would be some mulch additions around the tees, greens and some fairways. Also Like others have said the basket are hard to find so maybe a bright paintjob on the basket would help or a plastic utility flag.

I'm a fan 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 8, 2008 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Holes 2 and 3 are bordered by perfectly parallel lines of trees, which is really a sight to see. It's like something out a Tim Burton movie. I like the rest of the course (except hole 4) too.

Oh, and also on hole 3, I almost HIT a 7 YEAR OLD. I couldn't see him.

Cons:

There are to many trees on hole 4 and it plays like pinball from the depths of Frolf Hell.
Speaking of Hell, the other players kind of blow. Honestly, there must be something in the water in Libertyville b/c the other players are really cocky. Not kidding, people getting cocky on the Frolf course. I try to explain that this is glorified Frisbee and not some dick measuring contest, but that never works.

Also, I ALMOST hit that 7 year old. So close.

Other Thoughts:

Awesome course, the other people who know about it suck, and be careful of the kids.

Great 9 hole 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Aug 1, 2009 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Great diversity in holes.
No advantage for back-handers, or fore-handers.
Challenging but decent for beginners.

Cons:

Sometimes too many people, but this course is well worth it.
If you have never been here before, it can be a semi hard course to navigate, but there are many people you can follow. Still worth it.

Other Thoughts:

The day campers get a little crazy, but its always funny to see a camp counselor nail a camper while playing dodgeball (look for this when you walk from hole 7 to 8).

9-Holer To Be Remembered 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:May 26, 2009 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

This one amazing nine hole course. There are plenty of shots that have a good risk/reward factor. The course is evenly split up between some very TOUGH wooded holes and some very FUN open holes. The itself is not one were you can make a couple of bad shots and still expect to get a decent score. If you make those bad shots it will sting. Hole #9 is one of my favorite holes that I have ever played. You throw from on top of a slight hill and it is a straight shot to the basket around 280ft. It is great to just stand back and watch the disc fly as this hole is all open. Hole #9 always has birdie opportunities sitting out there for you.

Cons:

If you have a serious problem with walking this isn't the best choice of a course for you. Once an 18-holer now a 9-holer there is a good amount of walking distance between holes. Because of this it can also be quite confusing to navigate if it is your first time playing there as to get to the next hole you will sometimes have to cut through a path in the woods. And with the woods there comes plenty opportunities to lose disc that sail on you. One thing that really sticks out at me for this course is the baskets, they are not in the best shape and they are pretty beat. Finally, it can get quite a bit buggy, but if some mosquitoes are going to keep you from playing one of the best nine hole courses in Illinois you should question hole into disc golf you really are.

Other Thoughts:

Don't let the #9 steer you away from this course. It is a great course that really tests your ability with a variety of different shots. The wooded holes are extremely tough as you have to thread your way down a narrow fairway or you will hit a tree. Hole #4 on this course is filled with trees all over the place that will act like land mines to your disc if your not careful. I encourage you to come out and enjoy a great couple rounds of disc golf at this great nine hole course

Best 9 Hole Course In Illinois 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Feb 14, 2009 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

This is a very challenging 9 hole course.
Cement Tees. Very long!
Slight elevation. (#1, #7, #8, #9)
Woods
Long
Couple of fast greens. Depending on the angle there are uphill and downhill putts on this course. (#4, #7, #8, & #9).
You will need every shot to score well on this course. The overall course design is very good. There is no left/righty advantage. It's pretty balanced.

Cons:

If you don't have a map you might have a difficult time fining your way.

Some of the baskets are in poor condition. They have been beat up over the years. Many of the rings are missing and league players have done their best to fix them.

Several of the signs are missing.

During the wet/warm months the skeeters get pretty bad. Bring bug spray.

Depending on what time of year you play this course can be muddy.

Very crowded during the warm weather months. There are times that you will see every hole with a group and people waiting to play.

This course was installed in 1981. It was originally 18 holes the cut to 9 with the addition of activities in the park. There has been quite a bit of erosion and tree damage over the years.

Other Thoughts:

This is the best 9 hole course in Illinois.

Once you take a left at the light continue around past the pool parking lot. The 1st tee is located in the back lot. There is a big board with disc golf rules and map located next to tee #1.
