Gem 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 28, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

Fairways are well groomed
Park is clean and low traffic
Forces precision shots on narrow fairways
Tees well marked with signs

Cons:

No concrete tee pads (although dirt was in good shape with little wear)
Brush is thick

Other Thoughts:

It's a very fair course and you'll be rewarded for finding the fairway and punished for missing. Probably would rank 3.75 if it was available. I've been playing the area a lot and I regret not playing here sooner. This course is a bit of a hidden gem

Underrated 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 28, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Requires use of your entire bag. Tight fairways test accuracy. A couple holes have cool elevation changes. There's even one nifty water hazard. Despite the tight quarters, there's a few opportunities to air it out still.
-Good quality DGA baskets.
-Good signage. I snagged a map at the course start but rarely needed it.
-Grass well maintained, beautiful walk through an old orchard.
-Quiet course, private setting (no zig zags through shelters and whatnot), not very busy.

Cons:

-Dirt tees. Although they're in great shape for dirt, cement or rubber pads would really elevate this course.
-The brush/rough. Yes, it's thick like other reviewers have noted. But I don't think that's a fair reason to give the course a low rating. Just watch your disc and understand there's a risk you might lose one. The course favors shot shaping over a big arm.

Other Thoughts:

I avoided trying this course for years because of the word of mouth on how bad the rough was. Don't make the same mistake I did - go play it! I'm already itching to give it another go, and thinking about how I'd replay certain holes.

The Apple that Bites Back 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 5, 2016 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Home is where you hang your your disc bag and this has been my home since the start. This course has such a great mix of challange and fun. Don't let other reviews scare you off from playing this great course. That being said, tighter fairway shots require straight throws, precision, and finesse to be rewarded with a good setup for your your next throw. There is a good variety of hazards including water, elevation changes, and blind holes to keep the course interesting. The course is well maintained throughout the seasons and park staff is friendly and helpful.New signage helps in finding the next hole. If you can learn and hone your skills here, you can play anywhere! Bring a friend and grow the sport.

Cons:

Dirt Teepads can get muddy throughout the year. Hopefully new pads coming some day. Spring and Summer can bring some HEAVY growth of the surrounding roughs and fairway edges. Any throws to theses areas can result in wasted time looking for your plastic. Again, bring a friend because the more eyes you have on your discs, the better. There are MANY sharp thorn bushes in the area and especially at the end of hole 18. Pants or long heavy socks may save you from losing a pint of blood. Hot days bring many insects so repellent comes in handy. This past year brought many bee hives to the area (holes 2,4,5, and 18 had some killers). Once again, keep your head up and check your surroundings when going into the brush. Park employees were made aware of the the bees and were really good at taking care of the problem. One word Epipen!

Other Thoughts:

This is a pay to play park ($6-$7 depending if the beach is open-Empire Seasons Pass $65). This helps keep crowding to a minimum during the summer months. Camping and amenities are availible in the park. Bring the wife and kids and make a day out of it!

Fun 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 10, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

- Great setting, well maintained and clean
- Easy course flow, tees well marked and signs to next hole
- Very challenging, no gimme holes, Need to use every shot in your bag, and then some.
- Great honeycrisp apples on hole 7 during season

Cons:

- Dirt / Grass teepads
- Long looks for discs if you are off the fairway
- A lot of burrs, wear slick clothing

Other Thoughts:

Entry fee and location keeps most casual players away.
There is camping and swimming on site. I wouldn't call it a destination course, but it could be a great place for a one day/night get away if you are within a reasonable drive.

Technical 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 2, 2014 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Well maintained, variety of shots with a handful of challenging par 4's. Peaceful course. Easy to navigate.

Cons:

Natural teepads. Obviously if you go off the fairway especially in the middle of summer it's not the most enjoyful experience. Could use a few tweeks like teepad locations slightly moved or re-aligned.

Other Thoughts:

This isn't your beginner friendly course but it's nice since it keeps all the casual golfers who like damaging and leaving trash behind stay away. It's virtually a private course. It's ideal to play during the spring or fall when its not fully grown in. I recommend wearing hiking pants just in case you have to search for a disc and maybe play with just one other person to spot each other. Too many players increase the odds of looking for discs.
Add 9 holes around the lake would be amazing.

Excellent Course & Great Design 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 12, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

This course is brand new with some interesting holes and shot variety. This course is also extremely clean, quiet, and accommodates all levels of players. The creative design allows for shot variety as well.

Cons:

Because the course is so new, there are some stray tree branches that might make it difficult to get a nice drive off on some holes. Also, instead of tee signs this course has wooden stakes that mark where the tee boxes are. The wooden stakes are great for marking, but make it difficult to drive in some cases...so just be careful not to hurt yourself or break one of the markers,

Other Thoughts:

The designer of this course carved out fairways and created shot variety really really well. One hole plays through several apple trees in a jungle type atmosphere, which is really cool. There are definitely some birdies to be had out there, but there are also several holes that require extreme accuracy on a narrow fairway. Also, there are several holes in which you can air out a long drive, hole 17 being a great example. Overall, This course is certainly worth visiting, HOWEVER, i strongly suggest printing out a course map or checking out the pictures before going...because it is so new, there are not any signs up yet.
