Pros:
-I really liked the signs here. They look great with the apple logo, hole number, and distant.
-There are a lot of quality holes here. Hole 7 is a dogleg left that plays over a small pond and finishes behind a group of trees. Hole 16 is a picturesque s-curve in the woods that gently slopes down hill. Hole 17 is a 250ft hole with a tight opening down a steep hill to a pin located behind a small hill.
-Apple Mtn. is very balanced between righty and lefty holes and open and wooded.
-The amenities here are some of the best I have seen. The activities building has a diner inside with nice bathrooms to boot. There's also an arcade and miniature golf. You could stay onsite and make a family weekend of it.
Cons:
-I was very disappointed in the first 5 holes. All were visible from the first tee and were pretty much in an open field. Hole 3 was the only interesting hole of the group.
-The cost to play is $7.49 (including tax) if you use their loaner discs, but you will pay $5.30 if you let them know you brought your own discs.
-There are a couple of LOOOOOONG walks between holes the first being hole after hole 7. It is not entirely obvious where to go next, but you end up walking around the small pond, through a parking lot, past a building, and into the woods. The second difficult transition is after hole 16 where you finish in the woods and 17 is past a building, through a parking lot, and up a steep hill. There are no signs or even a worn path showing you where to go.
-Some of the holes in the woods (such as holes 7, 9, 10, and 11) are way too tight and the branches right in front of the tee on 18 ruin what would otherwise be a really good hole.
Other Thoughts:
Overall, it looks like Apple Mountain has the space and the resources for a really nice course, but it is in need of a quality design and some maintenance. It is very obvious at the moment, that this course is played infrequently.
