Pros:

-Nicely marked out
-Well groomed
-Quick play, can play multiples rounds in less than 45 minutes.

Cons:

-There was a fence we threw over once and hit some cars. Its was hard to find the disc.
-there are light poles benches and people walking around all the time.(They have to get to class)
-It was hard to determine exactly which basket to play to the first time.

Other Thoughts:

Great for college students! I wish my college had a course right on campus! I would go out of my way to play this course, but if your in the area its a nice little course.

Pop Quiz 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Aug 1, 2011 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Enroll yourself in alternative sports education by taking a "course" on the grounds of Arapahoe Community College. Puns aside, this clever, obstacle-laden course is excellent for weaving your discs through tight spaces, such as between trees, around light posts, under low branches, along fences, and even off walls. Playing through the course is a great way to test your underdeveloped skills, or to learn some new non-traditional shots, such as wide hyzers, tomahawks, turbo-putts, rollers and anything else that can help you arrive closer to the relatively short-distanced baskets. Most of the pins are out of view, tucked neatly behind an obstacle, so in order to land that ace or birdie you'll need to be smart with your drives! The mowed lawns, sign posts (regardless of their legibility) and brightly painted sidewalk tees make finding your way a breeze.

Cons:

Many reviews warn of the overcrowding and possible clashes of interest between golfers and student foot traffic on the interweaving sidewalks that dissect the course. Since the tees are positioned directly on the sidewalks, outdoor classes and the busy evening hours of the school year (late August through mid-May) will always be a factor. Avoid the unruly and unaware pedestrians by visiting on a mid-summer evening. If you're not pleased with your score, re-play the course in hopes of a passing grade, but don't expect it to change much. One set of tee boxes limits alternate play-throughs unless you get creative when attendance is down. Park along Sumner Street instead of the labeled student lot to avoid run-ins with the campus parking patrol.

Other Thoughts:

ACC's DGC could be a convenient practice course if you live, work, or attend class (imagine that) nearby. If you've taken the aforementioned pros and cons into consideration, you've done your homework. It's time head off to school.

Hole 1 Made it Worthwhile 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 2, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

This is a course that I would consider mostly an open field. There are some large and small trees scattered throughout it which the course designers did a quality job of incorporating into most of the holes. Hole 1 made this course worth it for me. If you like bank shots... expect to unload most discs in your bag off of the first tee. The hole starts off of an elevated concrete patio and travels between 175-225 feet. After 30-40 feet there is a large building which spans the length of the hole in which the pin lies 2-3 feet away from the wall. It is a PERFECT bank shot, and a fairly easy one at that. To add a little bit of skill there is a tree right in front of the hole, but that is easily avoided with a nice bank shot. You can also choose to hyzer around the tree for an easy birdie... but the bank is too awesome to not shoot multiple times.

From here, the course is fairly self-explanatory. It is fairly easy to find the next hole if you do some walking around, but bringing a map makes navigating the course easy. Holes 2,3, and 5 all border some sort of alternate property or fenced in area, so accuracy is key if you don't want to lose a disc here (they're easy to get... you just have to hop a fence & trespass). Most holes here are straight shots, but the trees add enough variety to make it a fun yet not-to-challenging round. Hole 6 is the only true straight shot with no trees. Hole 9 was my second favorite hole... not too long, but a small stretch of grass with 7-9 bushes and trees to avoid.

The grass and facilities here are kept very nice, and most people around the campus are very nice to you. Numbers are marked in the ground with purple paint. Each tee is a large purple square (3'x3') with a white number in the middle - they are easier to find than the description on DGCR leads you to believe.

Cons:

This course is on Arapahoe Community College campus, so you really have to pick and choose your time of day. The course literally dissects the outdoor "quad" area multiple times, so when students are there it is your job to wait. This means during the school year and in between classes you will have to do a lot of waiting and a lot of making sure people know you're throwing discs. Some people are accommodating... but most are oblivious to the sport of disc golf. Luckily ACC hosts far less classes in the summertime, so there are way less people to come in contact with then.

The course is good considering what they have. It is not very creative, and partially hard to navigate without a map. I threw RHFH on every hole but one, just to show the lack of variety in the park. It is a good course to practice getting close to the pin on, but there is not much technical practice here. Only a few holes have signs, and it is hard to distinguish which basket to throw to off of tee 3. This course is highly susceptible to wind.

Other Thoughts:

This is a good practice course for those who live in the area. If I was an ACC student I'd be playing every day. Hole 1 is AWESOME... you don't find too many bank shots out there.

A putter, a mid and 15 minutes. 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 14, 2010 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

A fun litte course located on a community college campus. First hole right by the main building. Though the holes are short, there are lots of things to shoot around from buildings, trees and pedestrians. There is very limited room on this course so accuracy is needed to get close to the pin for the birdie. Several different types of shots are needed from straight, hyzer, anhyzer and thumber. Teesigns on all the holes that show the basket location and though the teepads are all cement, they use the existing sidewalks for the teepads. Seems to work well and saved them some good money so they could buy the great Mach V baskets, my favorite!

Cons:

Another example of why build a course here? Space is very limited and plays right on the campus. You have to throw right next to buildings, fences and hole 7 basket is roughly 10 feet from the parking lot. The teepads are on the sidewalks where other people walk. Fairways cross each other and are generally very close together. Watch out for other disc golf users. Someone or something could easily be hit. I can certainly see many close calls with other campus users. It is up to disc golfers to play with respect and caution to others to avoid this. Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if this course is pulled becasue of such issues. Parking could be a problem, watch for signs where to park. No elevation changes.

Other Thoughts:

A fun little course that does offer lots of different types of shots. Nothing extreme, but it will work your short game. No driver needed here. Definate ace opportunies. I would suggest to play this course on the weekend as during the week it could be difficult to play. A fun course that I would come back to play again.

We (mostly the guys in the automotive department.) are going to redesign the course and get it back to 9 holes. Hopefully, we'll get some tees poured and signs. I've been unable to play for a long time, and I'm sorry I let things get so run down. Hopefully I can redeem myself.

Let’s See How Many Holes we can Overlap! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 8, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

This is a great place to practice you mid-range and putting game. Beginners and novices will appreciate the short layout and few people on this open area of the college. I recommend bringing your friends that have never played to this place and letting them get a feel for the game before heading out to a good course in the surrounding area.

The baskets are in great shape, and the course layout is easy to follow with large painted concrete tees on the walkways. This course is also very easy to spot from Santa Fe coming in, but you'll need to be careful about parking since some of the parking is restricted for the college. Park along the front of the course parallel to Santa Fe and you shouldn't have a problem.

BEST HOLE/S: #2; #7

Cons:

Where to begin - The biggest negative that the course is too short and dangerous for busy regular play. The whole course comes in at under 2000' and I think the distances markers were being generous. However, I hope this place never is never busy because most holes overlap each other from tee to pin. This is probably the most dangerous layout I have ever played, and assume the designer had no idea what they were doing besides trying to make sure the walkways could doubles as concrete tee boxes.

Plus, as far as the concrete boxes go, the large slick painted numbers made these some of the worst concrete boxes I've ever played. Being a walkway they aren't brushed like traditional boxes and each has a 4' by 4' number painted onto the area, which makes it great to see but too slick to throw from and I was even wearing trail shoes. I recommend throwing from anywhere but the painted numbers.

Finally, the course is simply too short from any experienced player to get a real challenge. This more of an ace run course where every hole could and should be a birdie hole. Also, I've never been a fan to bouncing my disc off of man-made objects and many of the fairways have fences and buildings as fairway obstacles.

WORST HOLE/S: #1

Other Thoughts:

Unfortunately, there aren't many quality courses in south Denver, so you'll have to head up into the mountains and play Beaver Ranch/Conifer Park or Phantom Falls if you want a real disc golf experience. If you're in the area and can't make the trip to the mountains, I recommend skipping this course and playing the mildly more interesting Schaefer DGC just west on 285. It's about the same in length and difficulty, but at least it has a couple of interesting features and doesn't play in such a hazardous layout.

nice short course, good for practicing accuracy 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 4, 2010 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Its a good short course, where accuracy is quite important. I didn't use my driver much, and it would be possible to do the whole thing with a putter. It only takes 25 minutes, so its nice to do during a lunch hour or for an evening jaunt. the whole course stays in the a small courtyard, so you're never too far away from the starting point, and if its really sunny, there is always some shade. the holes are all in good condition.

Cons:

Its really easy to lose a disc, I didn't, but i almost did. there are a couple holes that are right up against a tall fence with barbed wire, so if the disc went over there would be no way to retrieve it. There is also another hole that goes right over a fenced in electrical box, this one would be possible to climb over, but it would be pretty hard. Additionally, the most of the maps near the tee are missing the par number, so I had to guess on a lot of them. The maps are hard to understand, and posts on hole 7, 8, and 9 are missing maps all together, so I ended going from the hole 7 tee to the hole 8 hole.

Other Thoughts:

Worth going to, a nice place to brush up on accuracy skills.

Shorty but a Goody! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jun 28, 2010 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Brand new course! Great new baskets and they made it pretty good with what they had to work with. Damn near every basket is behind a tree or something. Great to work on your mid-range and putting. You can cruise this course pretty fast. Easy to navigate your way through this course.

Cons:

Short. One bad design was the center of the couse because at one point if it fills up hole 2 throws across 3 and 3 is thowing across 4 and 5. So it make it quite a clusterfuck. They could try to make better signs.

Other Thoughts:

Great course to work on short game. Hole one play off the wall and sneak it on the left side of the tree. Its a par 2 so if you have a bad drive your playing make up the whole round. Be careful on hole 3 that you either make it over the fence or keep it low, barb wire fence makes it a bit troublesome to get your disc. If you throw a disc on the roof or somewhere that you can't get it go talk to Matt at the student center and he will help you out. Keep it clean!

Really fun short course. 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 24, 2010 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Brand new baskets, great numbering, trees make for more challenge than you might think, short enough you can go try to bingo every hole. On the campus so the grounds are really well maintained. Generally out of the way of foot traffic during the mornings and evenings.

Cons:

A short, flat course, not a lot of opportunity to really open up a good drive, except hole #8. Fairways cross each other so when there are many players, you end up on top of one another. Most of this can be worked out by making sure you wait until the group ahead is 2 holes in front of you before starting.

There doesn't appear to be any way to retrieve a disc from over the fence when shooting toward hole #3 (fence on left guards a parking lot), no chance to climb over due to barbed wire. I didn't lose any discs, but wouldn't know where to go if I had.

Other Thoughts:

Lots of opportunities for some great accuracy work here. I used my midrange discs a lot, also understable drivers for big curving S shots to get around the trees. This is another course that has options for playing when its empty, if nobody else is playing you could make some holes much longer by shooting at different baskets while increasing some of the difficulty.

I gave it a 3 because my brother and I had a GREAT time here, especially considering 4 other groups around. He's new to the sport and he absolutely loved it because it was challenging but there was no "scary water" or "places to lose these discs I just bought".

Play it 2 or 3 times when you go, it only takes 20 minutes to complete!

Short but a bit tricky 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 23, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

Yes all of the holes on this course are very short, but there are a decent amount of obstacles on many of the holes. Adding to the tension/challenge of this course is the amount of places to lose a disc. There are several fenced in power transformers that will give you plenty of incentive to throw accurately and a barbed wire fence surrounding a parking lot that ought to make for a challenge if you aim loosey goosey. I also enjoyed the big wide open fields that surround the course and the sharp modernist architecture of the actual school building. The atmosphere felt very pastoral and wide. This course seems to make the most out of limited space with plenty of chances to make the most of strategy shots.

Cons:

Seems like it could be a tough course to play if school is full on in session due to pedestrian traffic. No actual tee boxes but some sidewalk is included as a sort of tee box on each hole.

Other Thoughts:

Not an ideal spot to set up a course but who ever designed it seems to have added as much flair as they could considering what they were given. Sometimes courses on campuses seem to be assembled half hearted but this one was a lot of fun and frustration due to some of the OB potential. I will be sure to play it again if I'm in the area.

Short, but potential OB 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 21, 2010 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

This course will test your short game ability. If you want to work on approach shots, short drives, and putting this is the course to hit. I brought only a putter out to this course and not disappointed at the workout that I got. We played sidewalks, parking lots, patio and the electrical box fence area as OB and this made it a more difficult course. Bounced off the wall and hit the cage on hole 1 was a fun way to start the course.

Hole 1: Shortest hole on the course. Play off the wall or sneak in the right side.
Hole 2: Avoid patio as OB and a big tree guarding the pin.
Hole 3: Tight gap between a big tree, fence and light posts. Avoid the side walk
Hole 4: Sneak under the big pins. Don't go deep.
Hole 5: Tight landing zone, avoid the trees, sidewalk and fenced off area.
Hole 6: Longer shot over an open field to a guarded pin. OB right behind so don't go deep.
Hole 7: Big shot over the open field through a well guarded tee. OB behind the pin.
Hole 8: Tight tee line to a guarded pin.
Hole 9: Pin surrounded by OB sidewalks, trees all down the fairway so choose your shot wisely.
Hole 4:

Cons:

Almost every fairway crosses one another so be careful for other people playing or walking through the course. The painted on tee boxes were a bit slick. With 4 baskets all in the same area it was hard to figure out where to shoot to. The school has not way for players to get their discs out of the electrical box fenced area on holes 4 & 5 so they are asking for people to climb the fence.

Other Thoughts:

I would be happy if I worked or went to school at ACC to have a nice practice course available at lunch. Like Talbot said Hole 1 is up the stairs on the elevated patio. Park on Sumner street or risk a ticket.

A single round can be played in 20 minutes.

Great Short Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 17, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

This is a great short course on a nice community college campus. The course is really new and has brand new DGA baskets that are really nice with numbers on top that face all their respective tees. There are a few hidden baskets making for a nice challenge for a course that does not have a hole longer than 279ft. Each tee has a passable sign next to it. Each tee has either a purple or white box painted on the ground to mark the tee. Despite its short length this is not a course that is super simple with lots of obsticles in the way. If you play with all sidewalks as OB it will add a challenge and you can play with sidewalks and beyond as OB and you will have at least a few holes that will be super challenging, specifically with holes 2 and 5. This is a good challenge to take a first time player to and is safe and fun enough to get people hooked on this game. Most of the tees are really easy to find from the previous hole as they are usually close and there are markers on the tee signs to tell you where the next tee is. The trees that are on campus in this area are used well to make this course challenging and the overall design for this piece of land is just about as good as it gets.

Cons:

The closest parking for a non student is a good walk from the first tee. The course plays around an area that could get very crowded at times. The first tee is hard to find unless you know where to look for it. You will not need many discs to play this course. It is only 9 holes for now though based on the way it is layed out there could be enough room for another short 9 holes to be added to this course. Several of the holes cross over eachother which may cause some backups.

Other Thoughts:

You can certainly find times to play this course where there will be no traffic and you will have a nice enjoyable time. For better palyers you can make the course tougher and for beginners this is still a very fun course to play. The first tee is up the stairs to the main building that you can see from Sumner St. You will want to park on Sumner street by Lot G. I was really impressed by this short course and it may keep me from going to some of the other shrot courses in the area. Even for an Intermediate Am like myself you will nto need anything more than a midrange and a putter. There is also a nice open field right next to the course should you want to use this course as a practice course and then go practice your long drives before or after a nice round.
