Enjoyed this course a lot 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jul 19, 2008 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Very pretty and well groomed. Excellent dual concrete tee pads. The Pro tee pads very challenging and Am tee pads very easy by comparison, yet the basket placement still provides equivalent challenges. Seems like a fair balance of lefty vs. righty holes. Awesome new tee signs with nicely drawn maps on each. Good course info board at first tee, plus scorecards (with map on back) & pencils. Several of the baskets recessed in the trees provide fun, challenging approaches. Retriever pole by the pond on #6/#14. Ample parking. Not much chance of pedestrian interference except for people crossing #24's fairway to get to restrooms.

This course has a couple holes (#10 Long and #23 Long) which might best be played by throwing your accurate "upshot" first to get to a good landing area... then throwing your drive. An interesting twist. [UPDATE Aug 2009: #23 was ruined by the utility company when they cut down all the trees in the fairway :-(( ]

Quonset Hut at 3235 Cleveland Ave NW is less than 2 miles from the course and has an impeccable selection of Innova discs. They also stock the essentials from Discraft, DGA, and Quest.

Cons:

Some distances posted on tee signs are off of accurate line-of-sight values. Long walk between #5 & #6. Copious amounts of poison ivy. Murky water on #6/14 makes discs almost irretrievable. Could use a few of the holes being more wooded to balance out the mostly open aspect of the course.

Other Thoughts:

24 holes all very well done, not much repetition of holes. Note that #6 only has one tee pad shared for Pro & Am. One of the best courses I've played so far. This course kicked my butt when I played for the first time from the long tees. I stood on the tee pad and thought "I've got to hit that gap, and then turn that way!?!". I really want to come back and play again to see what I can do now that I know better what to expect.

Worth the Trip 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:May 24, 2008 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Shorter fairly technical holes early to warm up the arm, before getting to the long holes. The long ones have room to let fly. Good mix.

Cons:

A couple of swampy holes near the end. Some kind of stinging, poisonous plant grows along the stream.

Other Thoughts:

The water holes are a threat, but not too far to shoot over. We drive out from Cleveland, so we like to combine the outing with a round at Massilon.

Enjoyed this course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:May 23, 2008 Played the course:once

Pros:

Have played three times. It gets better each time. It plays like four courses. The first section (1-5) is a technical in and out of trees and bushes course. Definately bring your A+ control game. The second section (6-14) are longer holes- mostly open- that give you a chance to let it rip if you can. If you're short on 7, 8, and 14 you'll get wet. Holes 14-18 are back to your control/normal course. 19-24 play like a 6 hole rec course for new folk with variety and moderate distances.

Cons:

Just a litle bit of shade in summer. Gets busy. Beware the water- its pretty gross if you have to go in (deep murkey bottom with dead falls inside).

Other Thoughts:

I enjoyed this course. It taught me a lot about how to throw the disc and how to approach the shot. A great learning experience!

Hall of Fame Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Sep 8, 2007 Played the course:once

Pros:

This is a great course for golfers of all experience. The openness of the holes make it a mostly forgiving course. Amateurs can play from the shorter tees while pros can play from the longer tees. This course really tests your long game. The course has some great new tees signs and is working on getting novice tees.

Cons:

This course is extremely flat. The ponds smell like crap (and you will, too, if you venture in). No trees means no shade. The map really makes the course easy to navigate, but without it you may get lost. Be careful crossing the street between Arboretum and Spiker.

Other Thoughts:

There is a restroom and a picnic shelter at Arboretum park. Quonset Hut has a lot of discs and is a short drive away. Make it a disc golf day be also hitting Lincoln Park in Massillon or Deis Hill in Dover.

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 5, 2008 Played the course:never

Pros:

Tests a variety of shots. Long drives, tough hyser/anhyser holes. 20-24 can make or break you, and they add a nice challenge to the end of a round. Great scenery and location. Easy to get to. Fairly well maintained and monitored.

Cons:

Can be difficult to navigate if you don't know the course. The water smells awful if you sink a disc in, and it has a 2ft layer of goose $hi+ on the bottom.

Other Thoughts:

One of the best courses in the area. The alt tees make it great for new players to seasoned pros. Big arms will do well, but there are enough tech shots that it normally evens out.

Pros:

It's a long course with plenty of different hole types. Some long, some control and others just completly insane.

Quanset Hut is close to course and sells plenty of nice smelling discs and accessories

Cons:

The last 4 or five holes are just shoved in ......difficult to navigate

Other Thoughts:

Overall the course is fun to play just a little difficult to navigate
