Short and Sweet 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 22, 2016 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

This was a really fun little course to play and just about anyone can have success here. I was on vacation with my family and it was because of this course that my dad fell in love with disc golf.

-This course was easy to locate, there was plenty of parking and in the summer months it was almost totally shaded.

- Navagation was pretty seamless, and after one round you should have no issue.

- Tons of Ace runs

-Everything is birdiable (is that a word?)

- Quick play, you can get through this course in 30-45 mins in most cases.

-Great putting practice and practice for everything within 100-150 feet.

Cons:

If you are looking for a challenge and you play regularly, this is not the course for you.
Not a ton of length and diversity

Other Thoughts:

You can probably leave the big bag at home. If you are an experienced player you wont need more than a putter, a few kids and maybe one fairway driver.

This course was clearly designed to grow the sport of Disc Golf and for that reason I gave it a 3.5. Do not avoid this course because of its rating. This was really fun and a definite change of pace. A great summer course that can be played before you are baking in the sun.

Good beginner course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 27, 2015 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Some have complained about the course being short, but I think the baskets are great for beginners - easy to see and hole in ones are very achievable. Area can be a bit woodsy, but narrow enough to create a good challenge for more experienced players. Undergrowth isn't bad, trash cans at all tees, and trail is very well marked.

Cons:

Course currently under construction, only played to basket 9. Course likely too short for more experienced players, most baskets are less than 200ft.

Other Thoughts:

There is a creek that you can't see just beyond the trees next to the course, be careful when you decide to throw it as hard as you can.

fun course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 24, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

Well maintained
Plenty of trash cans
Good use of elevation
Good tee signs
Plenty of next hole signs to navigate you
Rubber tees worked well
Fun

Cons:

No benches

Other Thoughts:

I was in the Wilmington area for a vacation and had time to play this course once. Its a fun challenging short course. I used a putter off the tee with no run up on all but 3 holes which I used a mid range with no run up. For being as short as it is it still offered plenty of challenge. Fairways were well thought out and offered plenty of variety of left to right, right to left, uphill, downhill holes. The course was crowded on a Tuesday morning in March so be prepared for plenty off traffic on weekends and warmer months. But the locals were very nice and courteous to us. I definitely recommend this course if you are in the area.

A joy to play 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:May 26, 2014 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

-Well marked signage, tee boxes and baskets
-Well groomed course with out a major amount of under growth to swallow up discs
-Nice variety in lines needed to take to each basket
-Really gives your mids and P&A's a workout. On occasion you may disc down with a FD for a forehand or go for it with something like a drone or zone

Cons:

Strangely I have no major or minor issues to address, this may change with a few more runs on the course

Other Thoughts:

This course was a great time. I have been restricting myself to only mids and putters and this course delivers. A lot of short holes that prove easy ace runs with a few that reward those to take chances. I parked quite a few that lead to birdies first time out.

The wind is minimal once you get in the trees and I enjoyed warming up in the field beforehand lobbing at basket 13 . I would play again and suggest to others to give it a chance.

short course, long on fun 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 23, 2013 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

well marked, easily navigated, sand based terrain. I played this in the afternoon after it had downpoured in the morning and it was well drained (no standing water).

Cons:

if you want to work on long drives, go elsewhere!

Other Thoughts:

short holes, many less than 200', but great for working on your short game.

All about the elevation 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:May 2, 2013 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

A lot of elevation on the front 9

Good way to improve your short game

You can play the whole course in under an hour.

Very well marked with nice pads. Trash cans everyone and it's very clean and I hope it stays that way.

Nice playground for the kids to play on, basketball court, tennis, etc.

Cons:

It still needs some grooming but it's come a long way since when it first opened.

Would be nice to have some par 3+'s.

Other Thoughts:

It's gotten a ton better in the last 5 months and I play here all the time. It's worth the trip to if you are in town and having elevation makes it well worth it.

ok start 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jun 2, 2013 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

-Holes 4,6,7,and 9 use the elevation changes of the hill well.
-All holes are a par 3, making for a shorter round then other courses in town.
-The majority of holes are under tree cover so the shade helps during these rough summer days.
-Despite some saying opposite, most tees are within sight of the previous basket.

Cons:

. Lots of leaves on the ground mean long times searching for discs if you don't watch your throws.
-The paved walkway leading up to the course just sort of stops and you are right in the middle of a fairway. Why didn't it come up by the 1st tee?
-No benches or practice tees.
-Rubber tees weren't really the best choice for this course. There are a few that have come apart already, but the locals have built some boxes for the more ornery ones.

Other Thoughts:

This course has come a long way since it opened up 2 years ago. Holes 1-3 have been totally changed for the better as well. Hole 1 starts at the end of the blacktop walkway. Props to the local guys who have put in so much time changing the course. Almost every fairway is defined and some have been moved for the better. I would say it rounds out the local courses nicely. With Castle Hayne and Kure Beach such different styles as well. It's only a matter of time until I ace one of these holes (Probably #7, I've come so close multiple times...)
-I was wrong. I aced Hole 10! First ace ever gives the course an automatic half point increase haha, unfortunately, hole 10 has not totally changed as well. It gives me a reason to shoot for that ace again though.

The kids will play, the men will frolf 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jun 25, 2013 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

1. Nice large rubber tees
2. Tees are all very close to the previous hole
3. Makes nice use of the elevation changes
4. Provides mixture of open and wooded holes
5. Large pavilion, baseball field, and playground for the kids and wife.
6. Signs with map par and distance
7. trashcans at every hole.
8. Great course for beginners.

Cons:

1. Tight sometimes too difficult fairways
2. Back nine are hot and sandy (no big deal though)

Other Thoughts:

This course starts out great. Fun not too hard and short. However the back nine are not shaded, more lengthy, and sandy. Great course, especially in the winter. Can't wait to play again.
