Pros:
Beautifully laid out, challenging course, though definitely easier than the East course. Advanced players will find it easy to shoot above par if they're not on their game. Difficult course for most intermediate players to par.
- Tons of natural obstacles on the front 9, really forces you to pull all of the shots out of your bag. Punishing, narrow corridors on some holes offer a real challenge. Back 9 opens up a little more and the Par 5, 1000+ foot Hole 11 is a real monster you'll remember forever.
- Signage is well done though a couple were down.
-The owner keeps the course very well maintained most of the time.
- Baskets in great shape.
- Tee pads well demarcated (though dirt).
Cons:
- Easy to lose discs. Some hazards are hard to know they're there until you throw up to them. It's a natural area with a bunch of saw work done so watch your footing.
- Knowing the area I would assume wildlife such as cougars/bears/moose could potentially be a concern, and there is limited/spotty cell coverage.
- Can be pretty wet in spring/fall or after rain. Marshy areas that are very wet to retrieve discs from.
Other Thoughts:
- Having a spotter definitely helps. It's worth walking most of the holes on the first go around to get a feel for the turns/distance.
- Although the signs are nice and Rudy has done a good job laying trails out between holes it really helps to have a good overhead course map.
- This is a private course so go through one of the Facebook pages to ask permission to play or sign up for the annual tournament that is held here.
- The East and West courses are my favorite courses in Alberta after Nordic, if you're looking for a technical AND distance challenge, these courses are the ones you have to play behind Nordic.
