Pros:
-Athey Creek is one of the newer and certainly one of the better courses in the Oregon City/West Linn/Tualatin/Wilsonville area. The course plays throughout hilly, lightly wooded terrain.
-Brand new Dynamic Veteran baskets.
-Two tee boxes to choose from. The long tees are concrete, and the short are natural. Both are market with signs.
-The course flowed well, with no long walks between holes. The only problem is the crossing fairways of holes #6, #9, and #10.
-Fantastic views from the top of the hill, at tees #3 and #8.
-Best Holes:
#5, a downhill shot best for a forehand flex. The basket is perched dangerously atop a huge tree stump.
#9, a long, downhill, blind shot playing more than 500 feet and through a grove of Douglas firs
#10, a gentle backhand hyzer shot through the trees.
Cons:
Problematic Holes:
#2, a 500 foot shot up a very steep hill. The steepest part of the hill is directly in front of the tee, making it difficult to progress more than 1/2 of the way to the basket. This would be a better hole if the tee were moved forward 100ft.
#9, the long, downhill blind shot crosses fairways with both holes #6 and #10. This would be a safety concern during crowded times.
-The tee signs were laminated and only featured the hole number. Permanent signs with distance and par would be welcome.
-There appeared to be some sort of stage in the area of holes #6, #9, and #10. I have no idea when it's used, but it would close those three holes.
Other Thoughts:
-Significant work looks to have been done clearing blackberries on the hillside near holes #5 and #9.
-Athey Creek Church is the fourth church in the area to install a disc golf course, in addition to PDX Bible Church (Lunchtime) Tualatin Community Church, and Willamette Christian Church.
-From reading past reviews, this course appears to be seeing ongoing improvements. I'm excited to see what's in store for the future.
