Pros:
-A short 9-hole course ranging from 101-202 feet on the property of a tavern. The course meanders in the open, heavy woods, tunnel, elevated baskets, elevated tee, a dogleg and a hole with very tight gaps. The layout resembles what you find in a normal regulated course with distance.
-The purpose of the course is to provide entertainment to tavern patrons. It would appear the course is the only outdoor entertainment.
-There are practice baskets on the property. Providing for leisurely putting or perhaps some competitive games.
-Outdoor flood lights providing for nighttime putting and the course would be good for a glow setup.
-Baskets catch very well. Wooden tee signs with burned sketching providing a "backwoods" flavor to the sign with hole number, distance, and direction to the tee.
-Large Wooden Cotton Bale Rollers are used to mark the tee giving that "backwoods" feeling.
-The Rollers are also used to place your beverage, and food as a table, as you move from hole to hole. And there placed around the practice baskets as well. Rollers are also used for 2 elevated baskets, and the basket sit just short of 6-feet high. These two baskets are well mounted, I banged a putt from C2 on #8, and no wavering from the basket.
-The tavern provides a menu of comfort food, and evening entertainment indoors as well.
-I only used a putter, and lost disc potential is low. Only around #2 in the woods if there's heavy leaves in the fall or a wild throw into the creek way beyond the basket.

Cons:
-If it's crowded around the outdoor grass areas where holes 1, 6-8 play with patrons wandering, you may need to wait to play.

Other Thoughts:
Whom among us, wouldn't want to play on a course called Backwoods Tavern. It was just like playing a longer distance course with a dogleg thru a tunnel of trees, an elevated tee into heavy woods, a lefty hyzer to an elevated basket, and an impossible hole to ace. Only two of the holes are open from tee to basket for an ace run including one elevated on a roller. The other 7 holes have some sort of difficulty to run an ace. The course was well thought out for its short distance. Backwoods Tavern was my second putter course when I played it, and I've played a few others since then, Backwoods is head and shoulders above the rest. It's a course if I lived in the area, I could imagine bringing shipmates when they visit to introduce them to Disc Golf, and believe it or not, Sailors enjoy drinking, food and having a good time! I really don't have any major cons. The course is what it is bring your putter, have some food and beverage, meet some people, and you're going to have a good time on a putter course that looks like a regulated course with distance.
As I was driving away from the course back home on a 2 ½ hour drive. I was wondering how do I rate this course? I hadn't played one like it at all, and the previous putter course I played wasn't interesting at all. I really liked what was done with the layout, and it was a good time. So, after three months and having played a handful of other putter courses since then. I rate Backwoods Tavern a full rating what I would give a putter course, and its well-earned! The time to play was 20 minutes.
Notable Holes:
-No. 2 at 101 feet is elevated and straight down hill in heavy woods. A small trail leads to the basket. The basket is partially exposed on the right behind guardian trees. An ace would have to come around the right. I hit one of the guardian trees.
-No. 5 at 184 feet a dogleg left thru a tunnel of trees with canopy. Run thru the dogleg will be heavy brush and trees, but shouldn't lose a disc, its not that far from tee. For a lefty an an-hyzer is not possible, and I don't do well turning over a putter on a low flight. Ran thru the dogleg.
-No. 6 at 132 feet you're teeing out of the canopy. The basket faces the open but sits on the edge of the tree line on the right and protected by the branches of a weeping willow tree. The basket also sits on a roller for elevation. Try to bring my putter left around to the right but caught up in a weeping branch. The hole is the most scenic on the course, and if I had a hole to choose an ace on, it would have been this one.
No. 9 at 141 feet the owner doesn't want you to get an ace on this hole. Tee to basket is straight but a cluster of trees to get thru with some gaps slightly bigger than a disc. There's about 25 feet of trees to get thru and no going around. It took me two strokes to get thru them, and had to make my longest putt for a par.
