Peshti-New-Go 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Apr 3, 2020 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Course has been upgraded with another 9 holes, making a Good Fun 18 Hole DGC at Badger Park (2019)

Design makes good use of the Coniferous Lowland area for the new stuff (Holes 3-12) Great mix of Cedar, Hemlock, White and Red Pines

Fairways stay away from the Wetspots... except for 6 & 11. 6 is the Best hole back there as it puts some Water into Play :) 11 is the Best Long Tee so far, as it Throws over Water, and then there's a sweet Boardwalk to Cross the Water

The old Park holes (1 2 13 15 16 17 18) are a nice change from the tight Coniferous Woods. Lots of Oldgrowth Pines still, but more 'Airout' Style shots

New Crushed Stone Tees & New Teesigns

Good signage to aid in Navigation, first Tee next to Parking Lot

Long Teepads installed on several Holes, with more in the plans

Fun Disc Golf, especially when the Putter is hunting Birdies

Cons:

6s Basket needs to be moved back to the Mound, just before the Water. This should be the Signature Hole, utilizing both bodies of water. This would add to the Aesthetics of the hole, making a Memorable signature Green

4s Basket should also get moved back on a Mound, Towards the Water more... especially with 3 4 & 5 being pretty Similar from the Shorts already

12s Basket could be Moved back into the Woods, that are already Cleaned up, and that would also get it off the Pedestrian Trail

Some people aren't fans of the Tees, especially the one facing the wrong direction... it's Hole 16! :p

Old guys would like more Benches

Other Thoughts:

Light Side / Dark Side type Design:
Holes are either Park Style, playing in around the Oldgrowth Pines... or Shaping short tight lines in heavy Coniferous Woods

It'd be nice to see some more variety, but the Designers were limited in the New Woods, as the initial goal was to be minimally invasive... but it appears that some local has gone through and taken out a lot of Cedars/Hemlocks. Premature and Hasty in my opinion. Should wait and see how the DG traffic/play effects the Woods, before unnecessarily taking down Trees on a new course

15 & 17s Teepad areas are by the building

Not much Elevation, but what's there is used well

Park area of the Course has the original 9 Baskets yet, so Nevermind the Numbers on those Bands :)

Jones and Shuie have the new player in mind, with Badgers course design. Maybe two holes over 300ft. The Oldest guy in our group Won today, so this DGC apparently plays fair for all :)

Very nice since the redesign 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 27, 2016 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

The redesign has made this a course that I'll play on a regular basis. Previous layout had several baskets playing very near high use areas. Making it almost unplayable in the summer. Not a long course, with only one hole that I felt like I needed to really put some heat on my drive. It mostly plays as a shorter technical course, in my opinion. Some nice risk / reward holes that give you a tight line to follow. Thumbs up to the redesigners.

Cons:

Shorter than most courses but definitely makes better use of the space than before. The tee signs could use an update to more accurately detail the hole. Natural tee areas. No real elevation change throughout the park but it is common for small parks in the area.

Let's get technical 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Nov 12, 2021 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Let's first talk about the evolution of this course. Started out as an extremely dangerous 9 hole course thrown around other park activities mainly some picnic areas, band shell and a rather large playscape. After this monstrosity caused much issue with other park goers, this course was destined for the graveyard but, as luck would have it, a local and myself got taxed with making a more optimal minimalist to the maximus approach. Thus, a some what decent course was established with out approaching on the other park activities. Flash forward 10 year, course is doing well. Peshtigo park and Recreation are very pleased with the course and have decided to expand to 18.

The course at Badger park has almost two different feels to it, the 7 open parks style holes that have a few massive pines to navigate and the 11 wooded and technical holes. For the most part you got every type of shot here, straight shots, doglegs left and right of varying degrees. One hole is 300 and the majority be 230 and under. The course even offers a bit of water, as you shoot over a 10' wide creek/drainage ditch. Badger park doesn't really offer any elevation, the course plays mainly flat with one little wrinkle as you play in and out of the heavily wooded area. Course boast a decent amount of amenities, seasonal bathrooms w/ water fountain, crushed gravel tee pads, decent tee signs, benches tossed in here and there, and a few directional signs to help you when navigation gets tricky. Tee signs where decent gave you hole number, distance and general flight path. Some holes have extra tees that add more length to them(3,4,5 and 13). Local club is slowly working on improving this course, several other holes will be adding longer pads and/or additional pin placements.

Cons:

Tee pads are crushed gravel not the most level, short holes make up for not really needing a run up. Also, a few pads are angled wonky and not quite facing the basket. On busy holidays holes 2 and 18 maybe tough to play, campers on 2 and kids plating on 18.

Other Thoughts:

The Peshtigo river is right across the street so the swim area is close. Makes for great place to toss a quick nine, grill out, cool off in the river and then head to Marinette during the hot summer months. Also, camping is available right by the course.
