Definitely among Top 3 in CO 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 3, 2019 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

- Amazing scenery
- Huge variety of shots. You'll use every disc in your bag
- Turf teepads are fantastic
- New DiscGolfScene baskets are game-changers
- Dog-friendly
- Everything. This place is awesome.

Cons:

- uhm... I can't throw 700ft uphill

Other Thoughts:

- I didn't want to list it as a "con", but no alcohol or tobacco allowed on the premises. I say this because I love having some beers with friends while I throw. Just something to keep in mind depending on what kind of round you're looking to have. Please be respectful of this rule, I know how hard people have worked for this course and would hate to see something happen because you couldn't play 1 round without a cigarette.

Mountain Disc Golf at it's Finest 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 19, 2018 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

My home course and without a doubt one of the best in the state of Colorado, Bailey offers everything from long bomber drives and top of the world shots, to technical lines through trees and everything in between. The views are out of this world and the course can be enjoyed pretty much year round with our "banana belt" weather. The new turf tee pads were a much needed improvement that in my opinion puts this course into the upper echelon of disc golf experiences for the intermediate to advanced player. I prefer the turf pads to concrete to be honest and having that confident run-up has really helped me improve my score at Bailey. Shooting under par at this course is an impressive feat with a number of holes that are challenging to par, even for experienced players. Holes like #10, #12 and #18 (old 17) are par 3s with teeth. With only a few shorter holes on the course that could be considered "must gets" (think #2, #8 and new #17), you really need to shoot consistent to score well here. The up and down nature of the course makes it a pretty grueling hike and fatigue can definitely be a factor. Coupled with some sloped greens and picturesque basket placements in rock outcroppings, Bailey DGC is as challenging as it is beautiful. With 4 total par 4s, the big arms are rewarded more for a long drive at Bailey than they are at other courses in the area. The $5 course fee is a steal considering all the improvements and work that has gone into this course, not to mention all funds go to the Platte Canyon School District to fund grants, scholarships and projects at the local schools.

Cons:

I like the "Disc In" baskets at this course, but some could see them as a con. Not all baskets are uniform, but from what I understand, phase 2 of the course improvement project now that the tee pads are done involves making all baskets uniform. I can't dock Bailey points for this as it doesn't negatively impact the experience for me at all. Just a caveat for those looking for possible cons. Since this course is on school district property, there's no smoking of any kind or alcohol permitted on the course. Again, maybe a con for some, not for me. There are plenty of courses in the area that I can go to if I'm looking to share a few beers or a toke with friends during my round. Respect the property and the people who work on this course (as you should everywhere) and you are guaranteed to have a great round at Bailey. DGC.

Other Thoughts:

The Foothill Flyers Disc Golf Club is the local group that holds tag events Sundays and Wednesdays along the 285 corridor along with hosting a few tournaments a year, like the Pollination, the Bloom and the Harvest. Bailey is a common fixture for Wednesday tags while Sundays offer a great opportunity to play some of the incredible private courses for only $5 (course fee). Leather tags are available for $20 for season-long league play. Come on out and you're sure to meet some great people and make some lasting memories with this group.

BOERA is the group that manages the property for the school district and has been working on improvements to the property and the course. With the help of the Foothill Flyers, the tee pad project was completed in the summer of 2018 paving the way for Bailey DGC to be the premier mountain DG experience in Colorado for years to come!

Can't wait to play it again. 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 26, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Variety in shots
-Turf tee pads
-Porto-Potty in the parking lot
-Fun downhill and across valley shots that let you watch your disc work
-Pars are on point
-The most scenic course I have played
-Discs are fairly easy to find, unless one really gets away from you. Grass wasn't super thick, but I also played in late August.
-Great tee signs that include distance and tee/pin elevation
-Creative pin positions
-Very clean, I didn't see any trash on the course

Cons:

-No loop back to the parking lot, once you start, you are pretty much out there for the duration
-Beginners and distance challenged players will have a tough time on a few of the longer holes.

Other Thoughts:

I am from Western New York, elevation of about 600 ft. I played this course after a week in Colorado and after spending three days in Breckenridge at similar elevation. I feel that gave me time to get acclimated to the elevation. I wouldn't want to land in Denver and come straight out here and expect to hike these hills without being exhausted. If you are not used to the thin air you should read up on how to protect yourself from altitude sickness.
This course is the most beautiful and well designed courses I have ever played. Scoring well can be tough, and making birdies, or even a par at times, is very rewarding. The holes are well thought out and don't seem redundant. There is a great mix of bomber and technical holes. The designer could have easily went overboard with making downhill bombers, but that is not the case.
This was the first time I played at elevation and it can be humbling. Learning what to throw took a bit of time, but I never felt like it took away my game, it just changed what I threw and at what angle.
Bailey is a long hike, and unfortunately there is no convenient way to get back to the parking lot and porta-potties without taking a long walk once you have gotten past hole 5. Take more water than you think you will need, especially if the weather is warm. The dry air and walking the hills will suck the water out of you.
This was the most enjoyable round of disc golf I have ever played. The beautiful vistas, the great signs, the well thought out holes, and being able to watch your drive fly, for what seems for days, make this course the best I have ever played. I can't wait to get back to Colorado and play Bailey, as well as some of the surrounding courses, again.

Pros:

The elevation change and scenery are incredible and probably rival any course out there.
Navigation is amazing with arrows guiding you through the entire course after tee 1.
Did I mention the views!! Almost every pad has nice turf pads and great tee signs with distance.
Layout is incredible it can be a tough course but very fair.

Cons:

Hardly any only thing keeping this from a 5 Star to me is these small things...walkout to hole 1 is kinda rough. Out of breath before 1st throw as it's straight up the hill, but it makes sense for the course layout and really cool shot so not a huge deal. The main cons is a couple holes still have natural tee pads however it appears they're changing that. Biggest one is a couple holes have different temp baskets if those get changed it would be 5 Star no question

Other Thoughts:

This really challenges beaver ranch as far as which is better. However both are amazing and Colorado should feel lucky to have these gems that close together. Hands down a top course in any state

Long Bomb Mountain Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jun 6, 2015 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Awesome mountain course that pretty much has it all. Lots of super long bombs that really make the course a challenge. A lot of the pins are tucked into these really cool natural rock formations. These types of holes really make the course a special place. This course was one of the more challenging courses I have ever played, but I consider that a good thing.

Cons:

I realize that the course is newer, but I am not huge fan of the dirt tee pads. Some of the tee pads have already eroded away which makes this course even more challenging than it already is. For a course this long something more permanent should really be installed. They have no way of checking that anyone has actually payed to play the course. One sign says something about a donation and another says $5.00 to play, which one is it? If they really want to charge people they should make it clear, and have some sort of envelope system that gives you a receipt. Besides the tee pads the course really has no cons. (Update) Turf tee pads have been added to most of the holes for the 2018 Bloom Tournament. They have also since updated the pay box and course signage.

Other Thoughts:

This course is awesome, but it could be better with some minor updates. They should really get that pay box situation figured out so they can actually generate the money to make the improvements. If people read the sign as a donation, I doubt they will put any money. If they read it as I have to pay to play and I get this receipt to prove it, they will make much more money and the course will be better off. I hope whoever manages this course can fix the situation. It has potential to be a very special place! (Update) It seems like they have greatly improved the course over the last couple of years and has convinced me to change my rating to a 5. This is now one of if not the best courses in the state and should be a top destination for any serious disc golfer.

One of the best Mountain Courses 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Oct 12, 2014 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

-07/12/2018 Edit: Well somehow they managed to make an already 5 Star course even better!! The new turf teepads that were installed is the cherry on top to an already amazing course. They are nice and level, and the majority of them of quite long, giving you plenty of space for a good run up for your tee shot. Bailey has officially become my favorite course in Colorado!!
-Phenomenal layout. This course will make you throw every shot in your bag. There are long holes, short holes, open holes, tight holes, RHBH hyzers, flick shots, it's got a great variety of everything.
-Even though this course is "temporary" and on private land, it is marked incredibly well. There are tee-signs from past tournaments, and yellow arrow markers everywhere that make following the course very easy.
-All of the baskets are in great condition and catch well.
-Lot's of elevation change, which offer up some amazing huge, downhill bomber shots, not one, but three on holes 1, 16, and 20!
-Unique/awesome basket placements on several holes. 3, 6, 9, and 17 come to mind. All of these baskets are placed in between boulders/on the side of a mountain. This is actually one of the benefits of being able to use non-permanent baskets!
-Although the tee pads are all natural pads, they are in really great condition. They're all very flat, and plenty long. It's easy to get good footing on those holes where you really need to let it rip.
-This goes with the first pro, but the course design is incredible. The front 10 for the most part (excluding 2 and 8) are mostly longer, open holes, and on the back 10 for the most part, it tightens up a bit. I feel this adds a good balance for players who favor huge long holes vs. those whole like tight, accurate shorter holes. There's something for everybody here.
-The views on this course are incredible! When you're up at the highest point on some of those huge downhill shots, you can see for miles on a clear day!

Cons:

-There really aren't any cons here. I could complain about the natural tee pads, and the fact that there aren't any benches or things like that, but the sheer caliber of this disc golf course out weighs any cons.

Other Thoughts:

Since this is a "temporary" course that is owned by the school district, this is a pack it in, pack it out course. The only trash cans located on the course itself (other than at the check-in area) are on hole 10, right in the middle of the course. So if you have any trash, hold onto to either hole 10, or the very end, or better yet, pack it in, and pack it out. This course is $5 pay to play, and all of the money goes directly toward keeping the course open and general maintenance. If you are in the area, and love to play disc golf, this is a must play course!!

Bomber Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 13, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

This course is absolutely fantastic. Truly a beautiful area of CO to play and this course is very spread out. The things I liked most about the course is that it is very challenging with long holes and elevation changes, yet the hike isn't bad at all. Some great courses are well designed and cool but the hike is so intense it makes playing less enjoyable; not the case with this course. We went out on a Sat afternoon and didn't see anyone else the whole day. Very cool layout and awesome scenery to enjoy while you play.

Cons:

The only bad thing I can say is that some of the hole layouts weren't the best. I enjoy the possibility of being able to get though trees without just hacking though them. This happened on a few holes that I thought they could have easily placed the basket in a better location. It's hard enough of a course as it is. Otherwise the pros greatly outweigh the cons

Pros:

***Update***
New DGP baskets and turf tee pads. New holes 16 & 17 (replacing the previous hole 16) make a 21 hole layout.
******

-phenomenal layout in an amazing, picturesque, mountain setting
-tons of challenging holes over a variety of distances (mostly longer)
-huge elevation that is used to great effect off the tees, in the fairways, and on the greens
-requires accurate distance & line shaping to score well (not easy at 8k feet!)
-$5 donation

Cons:

-it's a serious hike, good shoes are a must and you'll need to be in decent condition
-no water shots
-school district land so no alcohol, tobacco, cannabis, drugs, and the park closes at dusk

Other Thoughts:

***Update***
Full disclosure: I haven't been back yet after my first visit but after seeing video coverage of the improvements here, I had to update my review. There are now new DGP baskets and turf teepads as well as signage. I have zero complaints about this course anymore. It is also open all year and cost only a $5 suggested donation. That's a steal for the best course I've played in Colorado.
******

Wow! Now this is the course that I expected out of Colorado mountain golf and was disappointed until finally making it here. Bailey is a big boy course set in the most perfect, picturesque mountain setting, like a Texas course in the Rocky Mountains.

Pulling up to the course and seeing the huge slopes through the mountain valley, the peaks beyond, large swaths of mature trees, and even the scattered deer really got me excited about this round and stepping up to the first tee quickly accelerated that mood. The course opens with a ridiculous 700' hole off the side of a hill with an enormous elevation drop (100' or more?). It sets the tone for the round and will also quickly teach you a thing or two about throwing a disc at 8,000'. You had better have brought your understable plastic!

The course proceeds through a wide variety of elevation changes up, down, and across, running the gamut of fairway shapes, and always challenging you with tricky, well-thought greens. The elevation provides challenges off the tee and on the green and also affects where you want to land in the fairway for your next shot. I really can't say enough good things about how the elevation, trees, and rocky outcroppings are used to great effect on this course.

Personally, this is almost all I want in a disc golf course. The quality of the golf and the beauty and secluded feel of the setting far outweigh the rough facade and this course delivers big time on design, challenge, and aesthetics.

So far, this is my favorite course I've played in Colorado and easily in my own top 10. It is definitely a destination course on it's own but it's a no brainer with Beaver Ranch, Phantom Falls, and Bucksnort in the same area. Bigger arms will love this course. Out of state people who think Colorado courses are short will love this course. If you play disc golf and have a pulse you will love this course.

Great course! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jul 4, 2012 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

This is a big mountain course that essentially is an advanced version of the Beaver Ranch course. The views of the surrounding mountain vistas are top-notch as you really get to see the rock formations that make up the South Platte. The course is full of aspens and huge pine trees and once you get off of the first couple holes you are nicely isolated.

The logical choice is to compare against Beaver Ranch (ie Conifer), however Bailey is a completely different course. It is significantly longer (avg hole length ~370 ft vs ~280 ft at Beaver Ranch), total length is huge (7,400 ft vs ~5,600 ft), at least 10 holes you are driving uphill, 14 holes above 300ft (vs ~9 at BR), and has several par 4 holes. I have played Conifer a lot over the last 3-4 yrs and this course kicked our asses the first time but it was awesome.

Some other perks are the are 3 bomb holes which are a lot of fun (think hole #17 at Conifer x3), great dirt tee-pads in some unique locations, incredible pin placements on most of the holes (tucked into rocks, or in tree groves, or in front of incredible views), more rocks and boulders on the course, and a mix of different foliage depending on the holes.

Signage was adequate and the provided maps work really well; directions on the course were helpful considering everything is temporary. Trails between holes are becoming more established. Most holes you can spot the pin from around the tee-pad but some require scouting them.

Takes only 10 mins longer to drive there then Beaver Ranch

Cons:

Facilities or toilets are non-existent which is totally fine with me but be prepared.

Other Thoughts:

First time took us 2:30 to 3 hrs to complete course as a group of 4.

There is a loaf'n jug gas station just past the turn-off on Rosalie that is easy to get in and out of and has reasonable gas prices.

Baskets currently are a mix from nice permanent baskets to mobile temporary baskets, to homemade(?) rebar baskets.

No problems finding discs but the course was incredibly dry due to lack of rain. If we get any rain I could see the grasses growing quite a bit making it hard to find discs.

NOTE: On the map that is online the tee and basket are flipped on #13 and #15, being that the tee should start where the basket is labeled on both of those holes. At the parking lot should be maps and those show the correct tee-locations so follow that.

Pros:

I have waited to review this course and I can wait anymore. What can be said about perfection! Its perfect, by far the best course I have played here in Colorado. For five bucks you can not beat the solitude and openness of this gem. The holes are long and technical. Bailey is a hiking course so be prepared to be out there 2-3 hours and bring lots of water, even for the dog, no streams or water hazards. Hole three basket is one of the best, I love the straight shot to the rock outcrop, so cool.

Cons:

Are not may Cons to this course. Bring water. The holes on top of the ridge can be a little tuff to navigate so it's a good place to spot your basket before you tee off.

Other Thoughts:

Please pay the five bucks to play this place it's really worth every penny. I just want this place to be more than just a summer course, it was wicked depressing when they took it down last ....... End of summer must have been September or the end of August. So pay the $5 so we ca enjoy this Colorado treat year round!

So much fun. One of the best courses in the state for sure. Technical, long, elevation, views, it has it all. Plus there are three huge downhill drives (#1,16,20) that make the course worth playing just to unload your bag on these holes.

Cons:

Not really a con, but it can be a pain to drive to from Denver. I would Trade the time in the car for waiting at a tee pad at crowded city courses any day of the week though.

Other Thoughts:

Bring plenty of water as there is hiking required. It would be awesome if it were permanent. Since it's not please respect the rules of the course (mainly don't smoke out there). Don't be 'that guy' ruined it for everyone and had it pulled.
