Short, easy course with okay conditions. 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 10, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Easy course for kids-Grass mowed-Custom baskets

Cons:

-Custom baskets won't catch very well-Maps and guides are gone, so you'll spend some time finding each tee-Very short, and the tees say 350ft holes are part 5's

Other Thoughts:

Interesting course, maybe stop by if you're in the area for a short game.

Unsafe... But will more than one group ever play here at the same time? 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 30, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Unique baskets with numbers on top (see cons)
-Probably won't lose a disc here
-Probably won't see another disc golfer here, you might not even see another park user here
-Some nice ace runs but also some longer holes that most won't reach in one
-Scorecard/map available in shed, it is helpful for navigation
-Decent practice area or place to bring new players
-The park is nice and has other things to do if you are traveling old hwy 14 with non-disc golfers.

Cons:

-Course is open and flat, not much for variation besides length
-Baskets don't catch well and can be hard to see if it is dark out. (not as much of a problem here as it is at Garvin)
-Safety issues that everybody has mentioned will be present if the park is busy with park users or disc golfers. That shouldn't happen often. The park simply isn't big enough to fit a course and everything else that is there.
-No real tees, natural

Other Thoughts:

I wouldn't recommend going out of your way for this course and most of the other area 9s are better so if you need to skip one, this is the one. This course is reasonably fun if you think about the size of the town and the park that it was put in. It was designed as another recreation opportunity in an area with few of those.

2+ years drive by

Pros:

Good mix of short and long holes. Nice small town course that provides recreation other than Lake Yankton. A nice score-card is provided at Hole 1 (inside the baseball equipment shed). The score card provides hole distance, par information, lays out the OB rules and has a detailed map on the back side. This is always a plus. Good mix of short 'Ace Run' shots and long open bomber shots, for the big arms.

Cons:

Single chain baskets. Although these baskets are pleasantly unique, they do not provide good 'catching' ability for an 'Ace Run' course. Not much for technicality, diversity or elavation. Dirt tee pads and no signage (which isn't much of a con considering the map provided)

Other Thoughts:

This a fun small town recreational course. It seems to try its best with what it has to work with, but with that being said, there is just not much to work with here. A typical small town park course that has some holes that cross each other. But this is not much of an issue since the course is rarely busy. If there is an event going a round might have to be altered by playing some safari holes or skipping a hole or two, which is common in all city park courses. Over-all this course is exactly what it set out to be, a small town course providing some recreation and diversity to a small community. And although I don't recommend going out of your way to play this one, I do recommend hitting it if you are in Balaton and want to get your quick disc fix in. Beginner course with intermediate qualties.

Heads up! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 23, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

Nice quiet park - nobody around the day I played.
Park was well maintained.
Great starter park!
They have nice homemade baskets only one set of chains, but can we bring these to Mound Creek? Love the wire numbers on top.
Good combination for the hole lengths.

Cons:

Wow, please think about safety. You throw across a basketball court, crossing holes and blind throws where other traffic could be.

Other Thoughts:

AGAIN BE CAREFUL!

Needs work now! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 8, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

As noted before, the homemade baskets are pretty neat, and the tee markers (sections of an old concrete silo) are unique. Taken individually, several holes are interesting/challenging, but...

Cons:

Yikes! Talk about an unsafe setup. I would feel reasonably safe on only two holes (7 & 8) if there were other groups playing or if folks were using other park facilities. For the rest of the holes, there is an excellent chance you will either hit or be hit.

The tee markers, while unique, are hard to find for a first timer. A map or posts would be helpful.

Other Thoughts:

The effort is commendable, but the course needs to be reconfigured ASAP. It is only a matter of time before someone gets hurt.

Interesting but Unsafe 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 2, 2012 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

- Funky wire numbers on the top of the homemade baskets.
- Several fun, interesting tee shots!
- Park seems very well maintained.

Cons:

- Incredibly unsafe design! Hole 1 shoots over the Hole 9 basket. Hole 4 shoots over the Hole 3 basket. Hole 5 shoots over a basketball court. Holes 6 shoots over or immediately adjacent to a ballfield. And Hole 9 shoots near/over the Holes 1 (blind) and 5 baskets, along with the Hole 6 tee area.

Other Thoughts:

I thought it was a quick, fun recreational course to play, but assuming those other courts/fields are used from time to time, that course is an injury/accident/argument waiting to happen. Never seen as many overlapping or criss-crossing fairways as this course has. Too bad, as it wouldn't surprise me to hear that the course has been pulled for safety reasons a few years from now.
