What on God's Green Earth...?? 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 12, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

- Short, park-style-y, pitch and putt, deuce- or- die, nine hole course scattered about Bethel College's attractive campus.
- Signs and baskets. Yep, they're there.
- Tee pads are basically natural areas (or in some cases, sidewalks) located nebulously near the signs.
- A few redeeming holes (#'s 8 and 9 aren't terrible) keep this from being a complete wash.

Cons:

- Short and annoying hole designs. Pitch and putt to the highest degree, without much in the way of obstacles to make things interesting.
- Hole # 5's basket had some sort of mobile piece of equipment parked *directly* in front of the basket, blocking it. It looks to have been put there on a more or less permanent basis? It definitely had the air of something that hadn't been moved in a bit.
- So somebody decided to make a crowded unsafe disc golf course on a crowded campus full of students, dorms, dining halls, etc. Perhaps there are times when the kids aren't completely everywhere, but I'm guessing most rounds here are going to be frustrating from a "dodge the student population" aspect.
- Navigation and routing are a bit suspect. After #2, cross the parking lot and go behind the adjacent building (along the fence) to find #3's tee. #6 is also a bit of a chore to find.

Other Thoughts:

- Why do people insist on installing courses with terrible holes, in busy, crowded locations, for niche populations, that end up being more of a detracting eyesore than an amenity? If I attended Bethel, I'd cringe every single time I saw one of those signs installed right along the sidewalk.
- Perhaps could've squeezed out five believable, fun holes from the property, but there would still have been safety issues galore.

Where'd that tree come from? 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 20, 2019 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

New baskets (dynamic veterans)

New tee signs

Lots of things to do in the area after you disc golf

Nice scenic course that goes through a small Christian college

Lots of trees to shade you from the sun

Literally no rough!! :) You wont lose a disc unless you throw it into the pond on hole#8

Cons:

Hole #6 is a potential danger to pedestrians. You throw through a tight window of trees, if you make it out of that there are two walk ways the disc goes by before it gets to the hole. If you Throw it past the hole there is a parking lot 15 yards diagonally to the left. As long as you aren't ripping it you will be fine.

They need to redo the distance's for some of the holes. Hole#7 says 380' (hole seems short, maybe 240') then you get to hole#9 and you can tell it is the longest on the course but is listed at only 300'?? You can see all the holes so it isn't that big of a deal, just gauge the distance and don't pay too much attention to the tees.

They dont have tee pads but most of them are right next to the sidewalk so I throw off of that.

Other Thoughts:

Not a bad course for what it is. I live close by so I'll play it once in a while and afterwards I go to the field to the south of hole#7 and do some field work. I've played it twice in a row before and it only took me about 1.25 hours.

I have never played while there are students there put if you are semi accurate the only hole you have to worry about hitting someone is hole#6 and I throw a putter on that hole anyway (listed 230' but more like 200).

It'd be cool if they incorporated the ponds more.

You could possibly throw into the road on holes #1&2 but it would have to be a bad throw, just keep it somewhat controlled and you'll be okay.

If you are a newer player give it a try, it will teach you accuracy or else you are hitting a tree. Regardless of skill level you are probably going to want to keep your putter close. Or mid range if you cant throw that far.

Have you ever played plinko off of PEOPLE? You might do that here... 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 27, 2019 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

- Beautiful brand new Dynamic Veteran baskets. These catch great. FIrst time I've ever played on these and was impressed. The only picky knock I may have is the chains seem a little light. But realistically, I will happily play these anytime.
- Tee signs are nice.
- This is located in the middle of a small college in Mishawaka. Very close to many things like restaurants, gas stations, really busy roads, etc. More on that in the cons.
- Ignoring the rather absurd safety issues the layout on some of these holes are pretty cool. I liked #8 and #9 particularly. Actually felt like a real disc golf course for once.

Cons:

Strap in kiddos...this is not gonna be purdy...

- Safety issues abound here. Players have to pay VERY close attention to the students walking all over the campus. There are literally dozens of paths or roadways that cross EVERY. SINGLE. FAIRWAY.
- I particularly like how close almost ever hole is really close to buildings. Lots and lots of windows are in serious danger here.
- #2 is stupidly close to a very very busy roadway and a nice dorm on the other side.
- The distances on some of these tee signs are WAY off. #7 is listed as 340. BWUAHAHAHAHA! Yeah right...more like 240. And 5 is listed as 320 - ummmmmmm nope. 260 tops really.
- There is challenge on this stupidly short course but the only reason there is any challenge at all is because of all the worrisome buildings in very very close proximity.
- 8 has a really cool parking lot about 10' behind the basket with oodles of nice cars parked there.
- 6 is a plinko hell hole. About 100' off the tee is a 8' gap in between trees which isn't so bad but for crying out loud not cool with there are like 15 walking paths on one side and a 10' deep pit lined with retaining walls on the other side. This hole is just silly.
- Tees? LOL WUT. Don't be silly there are no tees here just throw from...oh I donno...kinda near the tee sign - I guess???
- Navigation? LOL WUT. Yeah apparently that's not necessary either. Take a looooong look at that course map near hole one or take a picture of it prior to your round or you are going to be hopelessly lost.

Other Thoughts:

I hope this Christian campus has loaded itself on a healthy supply of forgiveness cause they are going to need it when huckers start breaking windows, smacking cars and (heaven forbid) whacking students. Why ANYONE with more than two brain cells to rub together would think this is a good place to put a course is really beyond me. If I were to compare this course to another local course I suppose it would sorta kinda be like a super dangerous miniature version of Andrews University but like really close to buildings, roadways and sidewalks. The only way I play here again is if I am in the area and a friend just happens to be playing here. Otherwise if I am coming to the South Bend/MIshawaka area I'm not wasting time here and just heading off to Rum or George Wilson.

If you're a course bagger and insist on playing here I strongly recommend a putter only round...that's the only sensible way to take on this design absurdity. Otherwise just get back in the car and head to Rum, Wilson, OxBow, Baugo...whatever.
