Worth a Visit 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 19, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

Hole variety is stellar. Uphill, down hill, long shots, hole shots. You want it, you get it.

Tees are all concrete pads with many having trash cans and benches. Alternate pads on several holes.

City park is usually well maintained.

Cons:

Signage is lacking. Signs are in place, but outdated with the transition from a 21 hole course to an 18 hole course. Could use some updated tee signs, but also could use some markers at the pins (and alternate pins) to direct flow to the next tee.

Baskets are moved too often and scouting to find a basket before you throw is tedious and time consuming. I like alternate tees, but switching them around too often is frustrating.

Other Thoughts:

For a less than average player like myself, this is a tough course where getting par on any hole feels great, and a birdie means you win for the day.

I like the challenge of this course. Specifically I like the elevation changes on the front 9.

I would 5 star this course for an intermediate player if there were a bit more consistency in pin placement and better signage. All in all though, this is one of my favorite courses and I'll keep coming back.

Good work Crowley!

Pros:

Cement Tee pads on all the holes
2 sets of tees on all the holes
multiple pin positions on most of the holes (that I noticed)
Very good use of the land, up and down the hill
wide open long holes and short technical holes

Cons:

Well it can get pretty muddy, specially with the rain today.

Needs the new tee signs they are working on

some of the holes are sort of close to each other

Not a fan of Mando's.

Other Thoughts:

I had not played this course in probably 10 years. Even the last time I played out here the course had been redesigned from the original layout. However, today all the holes were pretty different from back in those days, it is basically a different course.

In the tournament today, we played all the white tee boxes and most of the baskets were in the shorter position, considering the weather, this made for a fun round.

Several of the holes go up and down the hill that is on one side of the park. There are several holes going though the wooded area, making both hyzer shots and anhyzers.

A good challenging course for any player. 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 4, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

A well maintained course that has many obstacles that will be thrown at you. This is a good 21 hole course that will challenge even the best player from start to finish. It was a great course to walk and a very nice layout of the course.

Cons:

The only cons that could say about the course is on 18 you have a bridge to contest with, that has people crossing over it. So would be kind of nice to not have to deal with risk of hitting someone while you play. The course has some low lying areas that if not careful after it rains can be a worse nightmare. Also the course could use a rethink on I think 3a or 3b not really sure. Looks more like a short par 2 with the basket surrounded by water.

Other Thoughts:

Well for sure go back and play this course again.

Outstanding! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 21, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

- Sweet layout! Set inside a spacious park in Crowley, this is a really well-designed course that incorporates the available landscape very judiciously. From wide-open bombs to threading needles through tight lines, this course has something for everyone. In addition to a big arm, you'll need flicks, anhyzers, hyzer-bombs, and (if you're feeling lucky) rollers to go home even on this par 3 course. The often extreme elevation changes require you to consider the line of every shot and the wind adds an extra degree of difficulty what may at first appear to be fairly straightforward (a.k.a. "easy") holes. Pin placements are easy enough for beginners, but the alternate (long) tees, foliage, natural OB, and man-made obstacles provide a huge challenge for experienced players trying to tame this course.

- Solid equipment! Baskets are in excellent shape and are pretty forgiving, teepads are grippy concrete, and the signage at both primary and alternate tees provide great point-of-reference. There are also restrooms, tables, and pavilions available for you to rest your laurels on should you find yourself beat down by this long par 54.

- Scenic! This course offers many picturesque holes set atop hills that run along a creek/mini-river. The course designers really did their job in providing an experience that makes you not only want to come back and do it again, but also leaving enough of an impression to cause any peanut-gallery non-players to want to join you on your next round. Bicentennial Park is really worth getting out of the house for.

- Plenty of parking and a score of alternative activities available for non-disc golfers and the kiddos to do while you're playing your round. Between soccer, picnicking, tree-climbing, and creek exploration, guaranteed your young'uns won't be bored here.

Cons:

- Windy. Texas can be really windy by nature and the wide-open holes showcase that by making errant shots pay dearly if not timed or thrown right. It wasn't too awful bad when I played but I can see it getting fairly ridiculous. Coupled with the elevation changes the wind can turn "an easy par" into a round-ruining double-par bogey (quadruple bogey) pretty easily if you go on tilt and can't cope.

- Navigation. Luckily I played with a local who plays regularly so it wasn't too hard finding where to go next, but we often found ourselves referring to the course map on DGCR in order to find the next hole. The alternate tees, while a nice option, sometimes make it a little confusing.

- Missing baskets. When we tee'd off on #14 we got up to where the basket was "supposed" to be only to find it MIA with no explanation. Not sure if it was stolen or damaged and out for repairs, but it certainly didn't provide any relief from our confused navigation.

- Weird pin placements. There weren't many of these, but #18 sticks out as one. Running parallel to the creek, you have to shoot for a basket that's all-but burrowed underneath a walking bridge. Seems not only odd, but a skosh dangerous for pedestrians. Chuckers need to be extra vigilant here....kids are plentiful.

- No topless Hooters girls frolicking along the #8 fairway.

Other Thoughts:

I was fortunate enough to have played with zbangerbeast, the local course wizard who was nice enough to come out and give me lessons on how to traverse my way through this gem of a course nestled just south of Fort Worth. Playing Bicentennial DGC made me regret even more the fact that I didn't get into disc golf before I got transferred to the east coast. If you're lucky enough to live in the DFW area (or are simply traveling through), I would definitely recommend making the trek to Crowley. It might not end up in your favorites (though depending on your experience it could be the bomb), I think you'll find this course not only challenging, but rewarding as well.

Better buckle up for Bicentennial! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 18, 2014 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

The Bicentennial disc golf course is often on the tournament circuit for a variety of reasons. The course favors no throwing style, and intermingles wide open holes involving elevation with short heavily wooded technical shots. Water hazards come into play on at least 6 holes depending on the amount of rain and often windy conditions add to the challenge. The baskets are in good shape and the concrete tees on the red and white tees are wide and adequately long. Blue tees are natural and marked by a blue landscaping timber. Bright descriptive signs are in place on all holes. The course is kept in good shape with frequent mowing and trimming. Weekly mini's and an active local club keep the course buzzing with activity.

Cons:

The cons of the course are widely overshadowed by the pros but do impact play. The course is part of a large multi-use park that includes playgrounds, picnic areas and walking areas; this being said there are often people in fairways and by baskets that who are not disc golf knowledgeable. Hole 18 throws over a popular bridge and often there will be fishers or walkers in this area; not a huge problem just something to be aware of.

During the non-winter months watch for snakes along the water and poison ivy in the rough.

Other Thoughts:

Hole 1 is situated on the far right side of the park as you enter. A course sign marks the location.

Terrain is very hilly and exertion level would be considered high.

One of my favorites 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Mar 2, 2013 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

*Very diverse course that requires a wide variety of shots
*Good use of elevation (uphill and downhill shots)
*Multiple concrete tees on almost all of the holes
*Multiple pin locations
*OB plays on several holes to increase difficulty
*Local players are friendly
*Course is kept pretty clean

Cons:

*Shared park can create problems with pedestrians, dirt bikes/4 wheelers, kids in creek, and LARPERS.
*Course can be difficult to navigate the first time you play. Not all baskets are visible from the tee pads.
*Creek on 12, 13, and 17 is very muddy and smells nasty if you have to retrieve a disc from it
*Neighboring houses are NOT disc golf friendly (due to errant discs landing in their yards or hitting their houses)

Other Thoughts:

Playing this course can be somewhat physically demanding. Walking/Climbing up and down the hills could be too much for young children or those with physical disabilities.

Pros:

****home course

*Great variety of shots needed
*elevation change
*equal mix of open and wooded holes
*concrete tee pads in 2 settings with third box set being natural (short tees)
*multiple pin settings
*friendly local players
*workout included in course
*plenty of parking and on site bathrooms
*most of the time park is clean
*water holes are challenging but disc can be retrieved
*course flows really well with not a lot of long walks from hole to hole
* shade trees on middle holes are great for Texas heat
*21 holes the only non concrete pads are 6 because of a neighbor complaint and teepad moved and 3a which is not always played

Cons:

*not an easy play first go round, even though flow is easy there are a few shots that you may need to walk up and see where basket is
*most of time it is maintained well there has been a few times the city lets hole 7 through 11 really grow up
*some of the holes are almost like playing in a wind tunnel so be prepared as a lot of dirt gets throw up in mid holes
*park is shared area and sometimes people will be oblivious of what you are doing. My biggest issues are on hole 1 and 20 where kids play in creek. Also hole 18 has a bridge in fairway where people sit or stand at to watch you throw. Also there is a stone road that dirt bikers and atv drivers use on hole 5 7 a d 10. Very rarely to they ever notice you throwing.
*physically demanding course not for young disc golfers or if you have physical issues as there is some hiking involved
*creek is a nice play through but back half of creek is mud water and stinks if you have to go in for a disc

Other Thoughts:

I had this as a 3.5 and after playing some higher rated courses I realized I was kind of a harsh judge. When mid holes are maintained may be one of beat parks in Dfw.

Crowley, TX 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Dec 2, 2012 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Very nice course, one of the better courses on the Ft Worth side of the Metroplex, likely the best on the south side, except maybe Z Boaz. A very good variety shots. Open, wooded, uphill, downhill, left and right doglegs. Very few blind shots. Puts the creek into play on a number of holes, with 17 putting a bridge, the creek, trees and elevation all into play.
The park has restrooms on site, as well as picnic tables, pavilions and playgrounds.

Cons:

The sign for 12 (marked as 13) is not accurate at all since the hole was redesigned.
Terrain can be a bit rough at times. A few of the holes have very steep climbs. A number of the holes towards the front of the park can have a lot of non-disc golfers there. If you ask them politely to move they usually get out of your way.

Other Thoughts:

The course was recently partially redesigned. It went from 21 to 18 holes by combining a few holes. The old 1 and 2 are the new 1, the old 3 and 3b are the new 2, the old 19 and 20 are the new 18. Each of the other holes numbers went down one (4 became 3, 5 became 4, and so on). The current signage does not reflect this. But 16 of the holes are unchanged, and the old 1, 2, 19 and 20 we're kinda boring holes anyway (although Hole 2 was the famous "WTF Richard" hole, which we all miss). The course is updated on DGCR, but the old hole numbers are still on the signage. The longer holes arent my personal favorites, but I know that many other players really wanted those longer holes.

The park neighbors some houses. If you put a disc over PLEASE do not climb over the fence. Track down the house via streets and ask for your discs.

Pros:

Multiple concrete tee boxes, elevation changes, scenic, use of creek, good challenge, especially in the woods, Some holes have been set-up to lend themselves toward bigger arms, others toward control shooters. Many holes have multiple routes to choose from. All shots in the bag are needed to score well.

Course is well-maintained. Practice basket available, away from the rest of the course (you can make your own 22nd hole if no one's practicing).

Cons:

A few of the up/down hills are challenging to the body. Two holes (3A & 6) don't have the concrete pads (6 was pulled about 18 months ago). Neighbors along the power line holes (4, 6, 7, 9 alt position, and 10) have had their homes invaded by rude disc golfers who shanked shots; consequently they do not like DG and will complain. Sometimes the park patrons will get in the way, due to the multi-use design.

Other Thoughts:

One of the best most challenging courses in the south side of the Metroplex; gives opportunity to score well.

Elevating your Game with some Elevation 2+ years drive by

Pros:

This coarse makes great usage of the hills and the creek that roles through it. The one thing that this coarse overs is variety. There are open shots on flat ground, blind shots off hills, Up hill shots, down hill shots, Shots over water. If you wanting a place to challenge you and help you step up your game than this is a great coarse for you.

Cons:

This is suppose to be a 21 hole coarse but there are only 20 pins and tee pads. If you don't watch you disc in can be easy to lose one. There is a lot of elevation so you will be walking a lot and often up hill so bring you hiking boots.

Pros:

-great, challenging layout with 21 holes (including 3B)
-major elevation changes, up and down
-variety of distance and terrain, wide open to tightly wooded
-dual concrete tees (and dirt rec tees)
-great Houck signs, baskets in good condition, alternate pin locations
-creek in play on 8 holes (1, 3, 3B, 12, 17, 18, 19, 20)
-practice basket
-lots of parking
-trash cans, restrooms, covered picnic tables, soccer fields, kiosk with map
-not crowded

Cons:

-navigation is tricky in spots, new signs help
-poison ivy
-children playing can get in the way on the first and last few holes
-backyards in play on a few holes in the front, DO NOT JUMP THE FENCES!

Other Thoughts:

This is a long and challenging course that is very similar to Zboaz but with far less traffic. Major elevation changes, a creek in play, tight wooded lanes, windows to hit on drives and zones to hit for placement on upshots all add the to the challenge out here.

The course warms up with a few open holes at the start before heading towards the back of the park for some of the more wooded holes. Hole 3 is a huge downhill bomb and 3B plays along the creek just past hole 3. Most of the middle of the course is made up of tight wooded holes with well defined fairways and little schule. The last several holes return to the open area but play along the creek. I especially like the downhill drive on holes 10 & 14 and the approach on hole 18 with the bridge in the way.

The dual concrete tees, alternate pin positions, great Houck signs, and general amenities make this course a joy to play. The wind can be very challenging out here but at least it doesn't affect you on the wooded shots so much. The lack of crowds also make this course a very attractive option if you want to play Zboaz but don't want to wait on every tee box.

Overall an excellent course with tons of variety and lots of fun shots. Worth the drive to check out and they also run some great tournaments out here. Friendly locals and weekly minis on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

Pros:

I love this course, it has many different challenges. Several holes are hard to see around sunset so make sure you have an idea where they are before you begin. A few holes are currently under construction a little bit, but otherwise a great course. It is located in a wide open park with some holes located in a wooded and hilly area. Hole #1 is located just off the right side of the parking lot.

Cons:

I had a hard time locating the direction a few of the baskets were in even after looking at the map located on the tee. This could have been due to the fact that it was near sunset. Went out on a Thursday late afternoon and there were only a few other golfers there.

Other Thoughts:

Once a few of the holes have there construction finished this could be a really fun and challenging course to play!

Billy Goat Ranch #2 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 18, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

1) Nice trapezoidal concrete teepads . . . best in the business!!! Watch for the colored posts on the ground for the old tees (red and blue).

2) Nice new Houck Signs, I thoroughly enjoyed being a tra/elling disc golfer in Texas because of Houck's signs.

3) Creek comes into play on at least 4 or 5 holes. I always welcome the added challenge of some risk/reward with water.

4) Shelter a/ailable near the parking lot and the first hole.

5) #13 is a really unique hole and I had a real good ace run on it because the disc was 10' past the basket! I lo/e anhyzer shots!!!!

6) Donor marble plaques are a nice touch.

7) Blue post in the ground near the tee areas help with na/igation.

8) Nice use of ele/ation on this course.

9) Good balance of shots and obstacles on this course, lots of different shots needed here, and simply a well designed course that will challenge you from beginning to end, but you will enjoy the challenge.

10) Bathrooms a/ailable near the parking lot. Entrance sign to the course is nice to see along with a rules sign.

6) Interesting use of a major power line row . . . I ha/e seent his in TX a few times and it was really well done here. It pro/ides a great place for a basket perch or a tee area!

7)

Cons:

1) Baskets seemed really tough to see in the woods especially because they sortof blended into the mulch on the ground. This could be sol/ed and I think i remember they tried to make it better with some pain on the basket, but it wasn't enough.

2) Maintenance is a little lacking in the turf and fairway areas. The wooded holes will always strugle but when things get bare, mulch should really be used to reduce further compaction and erosion.

3) The first few holes are the weakest, but I can understand why they ha/e them and at least it is a good warmup because they are nearly wide open.

4) Na/igation can be a little tricky at times, but look for the tee signs and you will be fine!

Other Thoughts:

O/erall this is a great course. It is better maintained the Z Boaz but doesn't quite offer as much challenge. It has a good /ariety and was well designed. I would probably gi/e this a 3.75 if I could but I feel a 3.5 would be too harsh and there just warent that many negati/es. It is more just underwhelming but it is a solid course so I am sticking with the 4.0 rating. Comparable to Z Boaz, just in a different way.

Pros:

Nice tee pads for Intermediate and Pro. Very nice new signs. Most holes are fun and challenging. Elevation changes, throw up hill on a couple of holes. Throw down hill on a couple of others. Water Hazards aren't disc swallowing. No "Lets make a par 5 to get back to the parking lot" type holes, instead they just added more holes to play, meaning 20+ holes! Practice putting basket.

Cons:

For some reason this park seems like it is 10 degrees hotter then anywhere else during the summer. Lots of tall grass and undergrowth on a few holes. Even a good throw on hole 10 might land in some tall grass( 3-4 feet tall ). Hole 6 runs near the back of some homes. Owners not friendly to disc golfers. If disc goes over the fence it is lost.

Other Thoughts:

This is one of the closest courses to where I live. I have appreciated all the improvements made to the course over the years. Wish there was more tree cover like Z-Boaz. It is Dog Friendly. Not Stroller Friendly. They have made a good course from the terrain available.

Pros:

1. Great layout. After you figure out where number 2 was, it was easy sailing from there.

2. Makes great use of the terrain. Lots of elevational changes. You have to make good judgement on distance to keep up with the elevation in both directions.

3. Puts a creek in the way for many (1/3 of the holes). Water is very low so its easy to see and fetch disc. Creek is also not steep so thats a plus.

4. Great choice of placement for ltees. There are 3 levels (Pro, Intermediate, and Beginner).

5. Pro and Intermediate tees are paved, beginner is not, but no one should be playing from the beginner tees.

6. Signs are clear and easy to understand

7. Course is nice and clean with plenty of trash cans to throw away stuff.

Cons:

1. In general the course is easy to navigate, but I can see where there are a few holes that are hard to find, and which basket to shoot for can sometimes be challenging.

2. The last few holes have pedestrians that walk their dogs or play. This may cause some delays.

3. A few of the pro tees seem easier than the intermediate.

Other Thoughts:

All and all this is one awesome course. I enjoyed this one quite a bit. This is one of the few courses where I feel that you can have one or two bad tosses and you can recover from them. It really does keep you guessing and bring all your tosses, it will require all of them. Lastly, this is a 20 hole course!!!! and extremely long.

-Locals are great
-Restrooms!
-#18, most sheltered pin I have ever encountered. Best to throw a RHBH hyser over the bridge and hope it doesn't skip in the water. There should be a golf club still hidden over there somewhere.
-Tons of precision shots required.
-Playground for the kiddos.
-Brand new tee signs. These are really great signs actually. Just remember to see where the next tee box is
-Looks like there are a few new tee boxes as well.
-Multiple boxes and pins.
-Pins seem to move around often.

Cons:

-It is hell on a windy day.
-Some boxes are difficult to find
-The high wires on 4 and 9.
-Poison Ivy grows pretty well here.
-Can get extremely muddy after a rain.
-Non disc golf people getting in your way.

Other Thoughts:

Fun course! Love the fact that it is 20 holes. Most courses around here are 18. Technically there are 21, there is a red box in between 2 and 3. Its short, but water is involved. I skipped that one due to the fact that i had no clue what it was. First timers I would recommend finding someone who has played the course before as it is difficult finding the next holes, especially, 4-5-6. The course is well planned out to utilize the natural terrain. I have now played the course from both tee box locations. I must say, the course changes it's demeanor when playing from the long boxes.

This is a great course for anyone from a beginner playing from the front tees, to the average player playing from the middle tess, and the advanced player playing from the long tees. It really makes you chose your lines and rewards a hit line tremendously. Miss your line though, and you may be in serious score trouble.

*Some very "creepy" people, nothing against Crowley, but there were some strange happenings going on around me. Don't get me wrong, I felt safe, but something was a little off.
*One hole, I had to ask people to watch out, it is a very busy park, with picnics and such You have to watch out for pedestrians, they will walk in front of of some Chains that are tucked in trees.
*5.0's are out!!!!! I saw a couple people being talked to up by 10 Tee pad. So be safe and be careful!!!

Other Thoughts:

Overall I really like this course. This is a definite place I will be back to. Especially when the weathers nice and Z-Boaz is looking like a 4-hr round!!!
