Pros:
BPC has a nice, new 9-hole course. Good for a casual round.
- Nine-hole layout plays mainly around the perimeter of the property. Hole #1 starts along the road; #9 finishes up just behind the church building.
- Good mix of open and wooded holes. Open holes - #3 & 8 all you to air it out. Wooded holes, like #4 & 5, require more accuracy. Then you have holes like #1 & 2, that offer aspects of both.
- #9 is a fun, quality hole. It's easily the best on the course. Dogleg left through a double mando gap. Once through the gap, basket is on top of a small ridge with woods beyond. Good closing hole for this course.
- Tee signs are good. Throw in large tee markers and this is an easy course to navigate.
Cons:
Layout leaves a little to be desired. This is highlighted by the awkward layout of holes #6 & 7.
- After finishing #5, it's a short walk to #6. Tee off and play out towards your basket. Finish up and head to #7. Easy enough? Well....it is except for the fact #7's tee is 30 feet to the right of #6's tee. So, you play #6, turn around, walk straight backwards to #7's tee. Then, you play to #7's basket, which is 60 feet past #6's basket. You're better off throwing from #6's tee, walking to your right and teeing off from #7. Play two holes at once.
- #8 then plays across the edge of a soccer field. Simple, wide-open layout that wouldn't need to be here if #6 & 7 are designed better.
Portable baskets. They're perfectly suitable for this course. Just know they're not grabbing as well as most baskets.
- Be careful throwing on #1. Hitting a tree, or taking a line too far left, and you could be bringing the road into play.
Other Thoughts:
Blythewood Presbyterian is a perfectly good course. It's an excellent addition to this region.
- Great for casual players, beginners, and families.
- Lots of room for practice/field work.
- A couple of the layouts/angles were awkward. The dogleg lefts on #3 & 5 were more drastic than you'd see on most courses. I enjoyed it on #3. I didn't on #5.
- I'd say #1 is the second-best hole on the course. Nice that the course starts and stops on high notes.
- Good for a casual round and for local players. This side of Columbia can use more disc golf courses. This is a good start.
