Really good mixed terrain course

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 16, 2023 Played the course:once

Pros:

The course is pretty new, so most everything is in good shape. Concrete tee pads, DD Patriot baskets, and quality tee signs. Navigation is pretty straight forward.

There's a little bit of everything for players. Distances range from 97 feet to 425 feet, but most holes are in the 220-280 range. There are also a variety of shot shapes and lines. Some uphill, some downhill, right to left, left to right, wooded holes, open holes, and some interesting use of the area.

Directly across from Hole 1 is actually a driving range with distance signs and a practice basket for either putting or upshots. A really great feature for a course in a town this size. Restrooms are on sight as well.

Cons:

Not too many cons to speak of, although there are a couple of interesting basket locations. Hole 16's basket is surrounded by trees within the bullseye, so parking it requires some luck. It is also up on a slope, which can results in some rollaways. Hole 3's basket is similar to this, but is a shorter hole, so it is slightly easier to get close.

The tee pad for Hole 11 is positioned directly behind the scoreboard on the old football field, essentially creating a triple mando (it doesn't say triple mando, but it doesn't make much sense to not throw that line).

At the moment (6-17-23) there are actually some extra baskets installed on some of the holes. However, they aren't indicated on the map or tee signs, so it could be a little confusing which basket you're supposed to be playing to.

Other Thoughts:

Overall, for not very far off of a major highway (I-70), this is a really fun course to check out. If you're a local, then it's a perfect course for playing but also to help teach newer players (especially with the driving range and practice basket). If you're traveling through, this is a great stop and worth the short drive.

A couple of signature holes- Hole 5 is around 250 feet or so, but it plays downhill, and you're throwing over a big valley. It looks really cool just watching your disc fly, however, there are some trees to miss so an errand shot can still be punished.

On holes 14 and 16, there is a very large pipe that runs through the hole. Hole 14 you want to throw over it, and hole 16 you will probably want to throw under it. It adds a cool aesthetic element to the course without being gimmicky.

The short, 97 foot hole (hole 12) seems easy from the tee, but the basket is perched at the top of a steep slope, so getting your disc to land the right way and stick is still difficult. And, if you do go down the slope, there could be trees and bushes in your line for the putt, so throw carefully.

After you finish hole 18, there is a little walk from it to the parking lot. On the way, you can stand at the top of a hill which overlooks the driving range and practice basket to the north. After our round, my friend and I just had fun throwing our bag off of the top of the hill and just watching our discs fly.
