Brooktrails Golf Course in Willits, CA Might Be The Prettiest Disc Golf Course Anywhere 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 23, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

The little nine hole golf course sits under a canopy of amazing old growth Redwood trees. There is a lovely little stream which runs through the property and the entire area is immaculately landscaped. Several cool little bridges cross the creek. Brooktrails is similar to Pier Park in Portland but Brooktrails is much more landscaped and cared for and thus, much more beautiful.

There are no carts allowed here so that is not an option. The cost is $12. At the start is the clubhouse which sells delicious looking burgers (although a little pricey) there is a practice basket. The tee pads are carpet with basic while the signs are basic but very large. You get a professional looking scorecard/map as well. The baskets are a very pretty red Mach V models.

The front nine starts and finishes at the clubhouse as does the back nine. The golf is also fairly outstanding providing a nice combination of technical type holes as well as many long par 3's and a couple of par 4's. The course is well designed and will test your shot shaping skills. # 14 is my choice for my favorite hole here. You tee off high on a hill with the basket set down in the trees 485' away.

Cons:

Oh boy, It's going to be really difficult to find any cons here.

The $12 charge.

It might not be quite long enough to really challenge top players?

$13 for a hamburger seems a little steep for my tastes.

Other Thoughts:

Not only is Brooktrails possibly the most beautiful course I have ever had the pleasure of playing but the girl in the clubhouse was easily the most beautiful lady to ever take my money for a round of disc golf. And that was maybe the most beautiful hamburger I've ever witnessed.

Sorry, it's easy to get carried away in a setting like this. The hamburger probably wasn't that spectacular but the girl and especially the course were truly amazing! I hope that all of you get a chance to experience this course. It's truly a wonderful, amazing place and i'm thrilled that I got to experience it.

Brooktrails Golf Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 19, 2018 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

I don't give a lot of 4.5 stars and but it deserves a 5 because it lives up to its hype, even though its really a 4 but on the way to a 5 with just a few minor upgrades. This course is a top 10 course of California on anyone's list. It plays in on a 9 hole ball golf course in a overgrown redwood forest with maintained grass. The only course that might compare would be if the Humboldt's redwood curtain had a ball golf course going through it. It has elevation change, water hazards, a variety of open, tunnel, right, left, all the goodies including elevated baskets and tree stump locations.

Cons:

As soon as they finish upgrading their tee pads from mixed and get the tee signs put in, it will be a 5 all day long.

killer course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 24, 2017 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

beautiful course on a wooded ball golf course in a redwood forest- very little undergrowth and nice fairways/greens.

shot variety- left/right/straight/up/down/short/long- little to desire there for this piece of property.

secluded- up the hill from willits and at $10 for dg and $20 for ball golf, never crowded.

tall redwoods provide nice shade and the course is in a damp area so it's a good place to beat the heat in the summer.

signage- big white tee signs and next tee arrows make navigation easy, the map on the scorecards at the clubhouse is helpful for your first few times out as the navigation isn't totally intuitive to some holes.

clubhouse has discs, scorecards, drinks, food, bathrooms, and probably some other things i haven't seen yet. right next to holes 1, 10, 18, and the parking lot(great way to lay out a course!)

Cons:

teepads are currently rubber, which are no good when wet. forms for concrete pads are already built, which will be a huge upgrade. probably an upgrade to a 5-disc course for me.

potential danger if a lot of ball golfers are on course, since the dg course is in or near it the whole time. but i haven't seen that many ball golfers or people in general here so it hasn't been an issue.

$10 to play, but this place is pretty immaculate. when those concrete pads go in, can't see anyone complaining about the price to play.

Other Thoughts:

this place is awesome! it's the best course in the area by a great measure.

Great Freakin Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 17, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

Great views - redwoods and streams
Great variety of obstacles and distances for holes
Beer is available at the pro-shop (good selection too)
Trash cans and recycling are easily accessible

Cons:

Pay to play is slightly pricey
Shares space on a 9 hole golf course

Other Thoughts:

The cost to play is WORTH IT
At least for me, the golfers were cool and usually let us play through
I will be back...

Big trees and Big shots 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jul 22, 2016 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

I wont reiterating everything everyone else has said and try to add me thoughts. By far the best ball golf conversion course i've played. This course does not rely of length for difficulty like many course, but requires you to shape shots, hit tight fairways and every once and awhile unload a bomb. Great baskets and fairways. tee pads are fine, with concrete coming in the future. Nice little food shack that has disc. We didn't see a single golfer on the ball golf course the whole round. Has an alternate tournament layout that is extra challenging.

Cons:

It's too far away from my hometown

Other Thoughts:

Must play if you're in the area.

4.5 stars off the bat 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 24, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

- incredibly scenic course set in a mature redwood forest with a lovely stream running through the entire length of the course. Yes it is a hazard, and yes it costs strokes if you land in it.
- great mix of technical and more open shots.
- Excellent balance between right and left dog legs.
- pre manicured since it has been built upon a golf course
- benches, nice snack bar, beer cart. What you'd expect out of a small golf course in norCal
- friendly people throughout
- possibility for expansion into longer pins
- small fee to pay ($5?) for such a great location

Cons:

- can get wet and slippery in the rainy season
- way up in Willits, which is about 2 and a half hours north of the golden gate bridge without traffic
- no alternate pins currently. I'm sure this will change.

Other Thoughts:

Brooktrails is an amazing addition to the norCal disc golf scene as it basically is ready to play out of the box. And not only that, the combination of having a nice snack bar with pretty good food, beverages (both the adult variety and soft drinks), many picnic benches to hang out at, and benches at many holes makes this course a real treat to play. The golf design is fair and you can score well here, making it highly accessible to most disc golfers around. I'm sure there will be many tournaments here, and the holes will be tweaked so that tournament level players get more challenges.
