New kid in town drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 29, 2023 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Course is a great mix of Backhand , Forehand Straight, Left, Right, Some of the holes are a little short but with the tight wooded fairway you need to be on your game! Nice DD Baskets concrete Tees and Great signs and arrows in the basket point to next Tee. Has several elevation shots up and down. For the average Am player this is a great course, Tune up your game and have a blast doing it.

Cons:

Tree stumps need to be cleaned up. Some more waste cans could help insure a clean beautiful course!!

Other Thoughts:

If you live in the metro area make sure to add this to the list of courses to play this year!!!

Fun lil' church course in Buffalo

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 13, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

Buffalo Covenant is a new cute little 18 hole course in the town of Buffalo, about 40 minutes west of Minneapolis. Well put together with nice long concrete teepads, new DD Patriot baskets and excellent DD signage. Fun mix of a few open holes, openish holes where you need to hit a line and some shortys in the woods. Nice variety of left turning, straight and right turning holes. Fun mix of hole lengths as well, although most leaned to the shorter side.

Cons:

The first 12 holes are packed in there. From hole 3's fairway and hole 9's tee I could see at least 5 different baskets. I turned over my drive on hole 3 and landed near hole 8's teepad. I was the only one out there on a 28 degree Sunday afternoon but if the course ever gets busy watching out for other golfers is a concern.

Minor point: I love me a straight putter shot in the woods but having 4 similar holes was a little repetitive.

According to the tee signs there are 4 par 4's all under 400 feet. Pretty soft considering the era of disc golf we are in.

Other Thoughts:

With this many holes in a tight space the course designer did an excellent job keeping them separated.

Excellent replay value. I can see throwing multiple rounds as it is a quick play and who doesn't love ace runs? I will definitely be back especially as I have a dg friend who lives in the general area.

True Rating 3.60

Pros:

Signs - There detailed signs showing the map of the hole, indicating OB if necessary, distances and pars. They are all very large and of a format I have seen a bit more commonly.

Baskets - They are all brand new Dynamic Disc "Patriot" baskets, which conveniently have arrows on the bottom of the basket that are used to indicate the location of the next hole. This is the first I have seen this and it is very convenient, you simply just look down at the bottom of the basket as you grab your disc out of it and the arrow will guide you in the right direction.

Navigation - Following up with the arrows at the bottom of the baskets above, the paths out here are beat in really well, making navigation fairly intuitive on pretty much the whole course. The biggest issue was maybe from the basket on hole to hole 3 but that was before I realized there were arrows in the bottom of the basket so an arrow likely would have helped me with that walk.

Elevation - There is a decent amount of elevation shots, not to the extent your shot after 1 round, but 4-5 holes have elevation as a factor and it is fairly well played out.

Shot variety - There are holes that end straight, right and left as well as uphill, downhill and flat. Pretty good mix of terrain and disc requirement.

Garbages/bathrooms - There was a sufficient number of garbages out on the course and along with the church there was a porta potty by hole 18

Tee Pads - All concrete and brushed well to make them very grippy.

Ace Runs - This course is peppered with ace runs due to the length of 3/4 the course. Makes for some breath holding shots throughout the course.

Maintenance - The ground is clear and its easy to find discs if you go off the fairway. There were some issues with tree limbs that could use some trimming but in general the course was well kept up.

Cons:

Distances - Its okay to have some short holes on a course, but once you make your way into the woods on this course it just seems to be one hole after another of 200 footers. Like I said, they can be fun, but was there any way we could combine a few of those in the woods and find another few holes somewhere else on the property? I don't have a big arm, but can honestly say I drove using a putter on probably 5 -6 holes, and I don't know If I can say I've ever done that before. There are probably another 5 holes I used a mid-range on and then a few holes around that 300 foot distance and very few much longer than that. I was really excited after the first 4 holes of this course and then went to hole 5, which is probably the worse on the course, super short and the flight path they give is just abnormal for how a disc flies. Terrible hole.

Design - As mentioned above, they really missed on some of the wooded holes and the design in there. It honestly felt like they just felt they had to pound 18 somewhere and started chopping odd angle fairways with short holes. There are probably 3 holes on this course that need the basket moved or more trees chopped down but due to the length of the hole, chopping the necessary trees down will leave a 140-footer with minimal to go around. Its hard to explain but I feel like the designer either isn't a technical thrower or flat out wanted to minimize the chainsaw work in the woods.

-Hole 1 starts on the south side of the church, you end on hole 18 way over on the north side of the church. Therefore, after your round you have to walk about 5 minutes over to your car or to start another round, which is ticky tack, but in general it does feel like a bummer once you finish up on 18.

Other Thoughts:

The course in general is a decent course with what at the start looks like great potential. As mentioned above, holes 1-4 really got you feeling like you are playing a gem...then the woods happen. A lot of super short either odd angle fairways or arrow straight 175 footers at a basket on a tighter fairway and I'm not kidding when I say it eventually depresses this course. I mean those shots can be okay, just not as many in a row as this course has. It really takes you from a big high of the first holes to a depressing low with each new pad you walk up to in the woods. You finally get some relief on hole I believe 13 as it brings you over to the west side of the property and walk to some more open holes. I'm not typically the one to say this as I prefer technical courses, but on this course, I felt the more open holes were done much better and were without a doubt the more fun. The major lull of short holes in the middle really does take away from the excitement of wanting to walk around the course more than once. If I lived in the area within about a half hour I'd probably come back and play this here or there. I like an hour SW of this course and I can honestly say the only time I will likely play this course again is if I'm heading NE to go play Montissippi and even then I may not stop depending on time knowing I would want at least 2 rounds at Montissippi. I think its fair to say anyone within a reasonable distance of it should go and give it a one time shot, but beyond that, there is quite a bit better not too far from this course. All that being said, I give this course a true rating of 3.6 taking into account all factors. If you threatened to throw my favorite disc in a pond if I didn't call it a 4.0 on here I guess I could bend and not feel like I'm completely leading you astray. I could easily see less experienced players enjoying this a bit more and giving it a 4.0 rating, but most well seasoned players should come out here expecting to have some fun, but not be blown away. Its an upgrade over West Pulaski for sure if that counts as anything. Please give a thumbs up if you feel this review helps you get a feel for the course.
