A really great course worth your time 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 10, 2020 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Such a beautiful course set in a very scenic park. The holes offer a wide variety of challenges and it's a fun time for all. With so many trees, bushes, roots, and stuff it would seem that discs could get lost easy but that didn't happen. From most of the holes, you can see all the way to the basket so you can keep an eye on your discs the whole time.

Cons:

When you first arrive it's a little hard to determine which is the starting tee because there's a practice tee and several baskets on a hill that aren't actually part of the course. For your first time, it may take a little longer than normal to find the next tee but it's not that bad.

Other Thoughts:

I would recommend this course highly. Especially since both times, we played no one else was there and having the whole park to yourself was quite nice. We even saw some deer near hole 8.

I’d Describe Buffington As A Short, Recreational Wilderness Course!

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jun 17, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

The first thing that needs to happen here is the changing of the description on the DGCR page. The description currently reads, "Plays around a small city park." When I read that description, I envision one of those flat city parks with scattered trees, grassy lawns and nine visible baskets set around the park 200' apart. An easy bag that you can knock off in 30 minutes or less. That is not what Buffington Park DGC is. My description fir Buffington would read, "Course plays up, down and across steep hillside at rear of park." I probably wouldn't add that footing is treacherous anywhere off the fairway.

I liked this little course. There are some great throws to be made here, with decent enough challenge. I would change the directions to say, turn into park at far Eastern end of park near the tennis courts.

There is a nice course map at the beginning. The pads are concrete. The signs are a nice composite metal but they aren't stout enough to withstand the ravages of the local marauding teenagers and they are only held on a two screws. They need to be bolted on. Many of the signs have been or are in the process of being torn off as are the bag holders. Also a brand new composite bench has been damaged. These vandals here mean business. Everything in the park needs to be made out of industrial strength steel including the flora and the fauna. The baskets are Discatchers with the yellow band and numbers. I have no idea how they seem to be immune to the teen onslaught.

The signs also give elevation gain or loss which is needed on this hilly course. # 1 plays 252' back to basket which isn't visible from the tee. This is where I first discovered how treacherous the footing is off the fairway. The underbrush is strewn with downed logs and branches making every step an adventure. # 3 plays 300' across a small valley but on a steep hillside. # 4 is 260', also on a steep hillside. 5 plays from a cool raised tee pad with a new bench being constructed (make it stout, boys). The basket is 254', also playing across the hillside. # 6 is a short 180' shot but there is a big Fir tree in the fairway. # 9 is 258' and you are treated to an Pacific Ocean view from here. Then # 10 has no sign but is a tight, throw through the trees to a basket down near the parking lot. I discovered you don't want to fade left here as there is a very steep drop off here. For an added bonus, play back to the practice basket.

Cons:

Not much in the Cons Department other than all the vandalism, broken/missing signs, broken off bag holders and park benches being destroyed.

The course is not exactly cart friendly but it's also not great for beginners or families.

As mentioned 16 times previously, all the downed branches and logs makes walking through the rough treacherous.

There's very little distance here but plenty of challenge awaits you.

Other Thoughts:

I see this course as a short recreational wilderness course. Although it's in the middle of the small community of Gold Beach, you have this feeling of isolation. I loved that feeling. The design makes great use of the elevation and especially the steep hillsides. Some blind basket placements and unique tee pads add to your enjoyment while providing a challenge. And try your hardest to stay out of rugged rough.

Great course for what it is meant to be. 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 2, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

New concrete tee pads, new clean signage, brand new baskets, excellent & efficient use of limited space in park to create some interesting holes, great for all skills, opportunity for a lot of aces & birdies, very thoroughly trimmed, not very easy to lose discs, and other activities in park.

Cons:

While there is a variety of types of shots they are all under 300 feet so some mostly short holes, first time through can be a little confusing as far as navigating, I stepped and stumbled on a few hidden small stumps (but I am a little clumsy), and this course is not going to be extremely challenging for seasoned players.

Other Thoughts:

I personally think this is a great little course, ten holes, nothing extremely challenging but still very enjoyable with a couple holes making me get creative. I also spoke with someone who put in some labor into the course and he was very helpful directing and giving some info about course. If your in gold beach this is definitely worth checking out especially if your new to the sport or with someone less experienced.
