Middle of Nowhere - Surprisingly good course. drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 31, 2023 Played the course:once

Pros:

The designers put in a major effort here, carving 18 nice holes out of very thick wilderness woods. To their credit, there is almost no chance of losing a disc; going off the fairway will give you a harder line, and may cost you a stroke, but you won't be looking for your disc in a thorny thicket chest deep.

There is variety in direction and elevation; the lines are tight but fair, and often there are 2-3 lines for upshots. Hole 10, the only "open" hole is also the course's signature hole, IMO. It is a beautiful hole about 285 feet across a wide pond to an elevated basket about 25 feet from the edge of the pond. You must throw about 260 to not go in the water. It is the only place where water comes into play on the course.

The course is new-ish, and is remote -- there was nobody there all day when I went to play. The signs pointing to the next hole(s) are clear and helpful. The tees are rubber pads -- which were fine, and there were short (red) tees on every hole, well placed.

Cons:

The signs, which indicate the hole number and distance for each hole, would benefit from a layout icon showing the basket's location. Some holes are too long to see the basket, and although the fairways are very well groomed for a wooded course, it still is not always obvious whether the right line is hyzer or anhyzer. This could be done with a sticker on each sign, without having to redo the effort of new signs.

Other Thoughts:

It is not as well groomed or professional feeling as nearby ( 40 minute drive), Mine Kill, one of my top 3 NY courses, but it is a very decent course into which the designers and builders put a lot of careful thought and effort. And, I loved hole 19 - to give me a nice birdie ion the way back to the parking lot.

Burbine Forest 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Feb 7, 2021 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Beautiful woods course with some pretty technical tight lines.

Other Thoughts:

Course was just put in in October of 2020. Construction began in August of the same year. Amazing amount of work was done to put the course in the ground so quickly and done so well. Fairways are challenging but fair. Beautiful woods course in a mature forest.
