Fun Technical Wooded Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 12, 2014 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Free to Play
Open Year Round
Scenic Wooded Views & Lake Backdrop
Concrete or Stone Teepads
Technical Shots Required
Good Mix of L/R Drives
Putter and Mid Friendly!

Cons:

Pretty Short Course
Only 1 425'+ Hole
Signs!??!
Gets Crowded April-October
Walking to Next Tee can be Dangerous

Other Thoughts:

Burgess Park is a fun Par 3 course on Cape Cod that requires precise drives, but is fair, being a short course.

The Hole Info is not updated; many holes have been lengthened, teepads changed, and new holes have been added.

Mostly wooded holes (14) and a good mix of Hyzer/Straight/Anhyzer drives (7/4/7).

The flow of the holes is Great (RHBH Perspective)

1-5 (<275') High Ceiling Mostly Open Drives. Can all be Birdied with a Clean Drive
6 Slight Downhill Heavily Wooded Tunnel Shot
7 Up and Down Heavily Wooded Hyzer
8 Downhill Blind Wooded Anhyzer Slightly Elevated Tee
9 Uphill Ace Run
10 Most Challenging Hole: Extremely Wooded Hyzer w/ Mando and OB
11 & 12 Open Field Shots
13 Downhill Blind Anhyzer with Strategically Placed Tree off the Drive
14-17 Challenging Mix of Wooded Shots
18 Open Field Shot with Hidden Wooded Basket to the Right

There is practically no Hole Signage and is incorrect if existent. Signs to next tee are present, but some holes require backtracking the fairway or walking behind other baskets. Being the only course on Cape Cod, it can get crowded in the afternoon or during the summer.

This course doesn't offer many birdies if your drive isn't clean. Very Midrange and Putter friendly coirse. You wont need anything more than a fairway driver save for a couple holes.

Trees are not forgiving, but since most holes are under 325', some memorable upshots can be had. I always remember my amazing Pars and Bogey Saves.

Not too many bland holes
Especially memorable are 6,7,8,12,13, & 16.

Overall Burgess Park is a great short course in need of a little facelift. The local club has done a great job the past 2 years lengthening the course, installing teepads, and maintenance, the course looks great. With good hole signage and better walkways, this course would be a 4+

Short, wooded 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 19, 2009 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

The course is fun and you can play about 3 rounds in a visit pretty easily. There are plenty of birdie opportunities. While the course is short, the small skinny trees make it difficult to make it to the hole in one shot sometimes.

Cons:

I grew up on cape cod and I am ashamed at how trashy this park is. I regularly run into people smoking butts and throwing them right on the ground when they are done. Beer cans, litter, grafitti everywhere. Pretty pathetic because the land is very nice. Course is very tightly packed together so you are never alone.

Other Thoughts:

There is a nice swimming spot off of the 15th green.
