Pros:
(2.193 Rating) A lightly wooded short course under a tall wooded canopy.
- NOVICE FRIENDLY - This is a very solid Beginner and Novice level course, and they will love this course alike. No chance to lose a disc unless you put it high in a tree. The fairway lines are wide and there are no water hazards.
- BASICS - DISCatcher baskets and excellent concrete pads. The tees measure 5 feet by 12 feet.
- MAINTENANCE - The grounds appear to be mowed regularly. The course photos from 2013 show some substantial overgrowth on the right of fairway (2) and (3), but it was mowed an additional 30 feet farther right on my play. The park was very clean and I saw a couple garbage cans in the park.
- SIGNAGE AND NAVIGATION - One of the easier courses to follow. There is a great course map near tee (1). Excellent constructed tee signs. No next tee direction on the tee signs, but almost all the tee signs are spotable from the prior basket. I'll also mention that the course is perfect for those that like to bring out their disc golf cart.
- QUICK PLAY - A single could easily complete a full 9 in under 30 minutes. Groups of 4 should probably finish in under an hour.
Cons:
Short on uniqueness and void of a challenge.
- HOLE VARIETY - This is a one-hole theme kind of course. Almost entirely lightly wooded under a tall canopy with loosely defined fairways. Several holes have already blended together in my memory. The distance variation is minimal, all par 3s and void of any water features.
- ELEVATION - Like nada. The terrain is listed as mostly flat, but I'd relist it as Southern Illinois, if it were an option. No more than 5 feet of elevation change throughout the entire course layout.
- DIFFICULTY - The challenge here is perfect for Novices and lower end Rec players. The tree coverage is moderate to lightly wooded, but misfires will still have a great chance to save par as there is almost no undergrowth to be found on site. Intermediate level players like me should average 3 to 4 down while Advanced players should average 5 to 7 down.
- EXTRAS - No benches or trash cans by the tees. No multi-tees or alternate basket placements either. There is a practice basket, shelters and restrooms in the park.
- SPACING - Slightly below average. If the course were full, there would be a few tees that could be reached by an errant throw because of minimal tree protection. Also, a few fairway edges feel partially shared.
Other Thoughts:
Considering the site, a very well done course IMO. Every town needs to have a course like this one to encourage newer players, but also to provide some get-a-way fun for those that only have time to play once a week with friends. Local Recreational, Novices and Beginners could love this little place. Not destination level by any means, but baggers coming here can easily pick up Doctors park too, with less than a 2 minutes drive between the two.
- RAW BEAUTY - The natural elements on and around this course are about average. As stated above, no elevation changes, a moderate amount of trees and no water. The landscape is just too similar for my preference. The maintenance of the park is the best beauty aspect.
