Pros:

My three pros:
-The course is in a neighborhood greenbelt that is well taken care of with nice landscaping. The grass was very green and thick and there are plenty of trees and bushes along the sides of the fairways.
-Just about all the holes were pretty long with a couple bombers including the 800' #9. While the fairways themselves are totally open there are sidewalks and a road that bound the fairways creating OB on most holes. I expected a short little 9-hole round but this place is no slouch.
-Easy to find your way along despite there being no map on DGCR currently. There are no teepads but there are easily visible teesigns at all the holes and red hole #'s on all baskets.

Cons:

My three cons:
-There is not enough space for the holes to be set up the way they are if there is going to be more than one group playing the course. The basket for #8 (i think) is 15' from the next teesign, the same hole crosses the fairway of one of the earlier holes, and several holes play opposite each other within the same 100' wide fairway. Maybe there arent many people playing here or there's some safe routes I couldnt see but much of the layout seemed a little strange.
-As mentioned before in the pros, most of the holes are long with all of them 350+. Unfortunately the course is bounded by house back yards for several holes and all the yards have tall stucco fences- basically a long wall that would be hard and somewhat sketchy to try to jump. It was hard for me to play the course all-out due to being a little nervous about losing a disc over the fence on a misplaced heave. A couple teesigns show 600'+ distance but the basket had been moved much shorter, so maybe theyll shorten a couple others.
-All tees are natural and not worn into the grass at all. All the tee signs are indicating tee-off areas that are on a hill side-slope. I just used the signs as a general indicator and found the nearest flat spot to throw from but the current 'tee' placement is pretty silly. Maybe some level concrete tees will be built in the future, then the strange tee placement might make sense- but probably not.

Other Thoughts:

First off it should be noted this is a course in a nice green park that is fun to play. Despite being in AZ- Canyon Trails DGC had no canyons or trails. In addition to the name, there are alot of things to be figured out- parking, teepads, trashcans, benches, hole shapes, hole length, baskets, safety etc but It looks like this is a newer course and with time these things will be worked out.
There was a sign in the park that read " PARK FOR RESIDENTS ONLY" or something like that. Im guessing for that reason there was no obvious parking lot so it appeared the best parking was at the nearby school. I parked at the school mid-day on a school-day and played without issue but a parking lot would be nice. The baskets are new Mach-II and gave me a couple spitouts. There werent any benches or trashcans that i can recall. One of the baskets that was moved shorter is now within 30' of a playground?
I probably wont come back when in town considering the other way better courses, but I enjoyed the round I had so that counts for something!
