wind wind WIND! ugh!! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 20, 2012 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Elevation makes for fun shots. Drinking fountains in several locations.

Cons:

WIND!!! It is ridiculously windy. Lost a disc for the first time in over a year in the crazy tall rough after the wind blew my disc two fairways over. No shade = hot and dry. Layout is awful; back and forth across a road and through a soccer field.

Other Thoughts:

It would be nice to have signs to point in the direction of the next pad. There are a few places where we had to look around for the next pad.

A power driver's dream, but needs some serious help! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Apr 10, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

This course has a few interesting holes that make good use of the few elevation changes in the park. In particular, the uphill sweeping left on #4, the hidden pin in the dip behind the knoll on #5, the throw across the valley and over the drainage ditch through the hedgerow from the new tee on #15, and the long, long, long gradual downhill on #16. The creative pin placement behind the bushes on #14 and the new tee placement on #15 added interest, while the lengths over 400' on #1, #4, #6-#12, #16, and #17 will keep power throwers from being totally bored.

The dirt tees, although deeply rutted into the ground, offer firm footing when dry.

There's almost no chance of losing a disc here as everything is wide open, unless you shank it into the dense woods off the pro tee on 16, or a car runs over it on any of the roads.

Cons:

Grrrrr.....I HATE having to search and search and search for the next tee!! No signage of any kind anywhere meant I never knew if I was on the right tee or shooting at the right basket. Even with the park only mowing the fairways, navigation was a nightmare. So, print and take the map, right??? Nope. Even with the map in hand, I had a hard time finding the tee boxes on #10, #14, and #15 (as it appears there's 2 different ones). In addition, I couldn't believe that the tee for #13 sits almost right on the fairway for #12, and you have to shoot across the #12 fairway to the pin. Something as cheap and simple as using a Sharpie to mark the hole number on the orange pin flags marking the tees on many of the holes would have helped immensely.

With a park this big and open, you'd think it would be possible to design a course that doesn't shoot over or at every road, path, and sports field in the place!

The first tee and last baskets are in very odd places so that there's no place to park where you don't have a massive hike to and from your car, and making you shoot at the parking lot on #1 is just stupid. Of the 2 groups ahead of me, 4 people almost hit my car.

Other Thoughts:

This multi-use park is nicely kept and very busy. The restroom were spotless.

Low lying areas and clay-based soil means much of this course is waterlogged and soggy after a rain. I'd think the tee areas would get slippery when wet, as well.

Wind is in play on EVERY hole! Avoid this course if the wind is over 10-15 MPH unless you thrive on big winds. (I don't, and the 30-40 MPH gust we had today SUCKED!).

I get that the designers wished to use as many terrain and vegetation elements as possible in the park, but it left the layout feeling disjointed and awkward with no flow and many, many areas where errant throws would be dangerous to other discers, park users, and vehicles. In particular, the design of the back 9 feels "added-on" and rushed.

Unless you love long drives and no technical challenge, I wouldn't recommend this course.....there are so many better options in the GR area.
