A good warm up for the HAWK 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 18, 2014 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

This course has nice baskets that catch well and the grounds were well maintained. The tee signs provided the necessary info.
The tee pads here are plenty long and allow for a proper run up.
Your rounds should play quickly here. There is a good mix of short and moderate length holes.
This is a good place for a beginner to learn the game and its a good place for more advanced players to work on their mid range game.
Some of the holes will have ACE RUN potential. The threat of disc loss is pretty low, depending on if the draw has water in it and if the island area around 4's basket is dry.
Hole 8 has some length and is a good place to air out your favorite driver.
The semi elevated tee on #9 was nice as well.

Cons:

Many of the holes are wide open so wind will definitely factor in . There won't be a lot of shade for those hot summer days. The road and parking lot could come into play on the first 2 holes, so be careful. A couple of signs had some damage to them upon my visit.
No trash cans(except at #4's tee) or benches.
The walk between some baskets to the next tee are a tad lengthy and will slow the flow down a bit. Not much shot variety here.
The row of cedar trees that used to be on hole #4 which had a gap that needed to be hit has been removed. This completely changes this hole and just makes it bland, IMO.

Other Thoughts:

If you like an open course where you can work on your driving skills with the wind factoring in then this is your kind of course. If you prefer a shorter course that has more lines that need to be hit then head over to Thresher National at Bethel College. If you want the complete package then head out to Camp Hawk.
This isn't a bad course and it is a good entry level 9 holer, it just needs more shot variety for the more advanced skilled player.

Drive across town instead 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 6, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

The Pros of the course are simple.

It has cement tees and manufactured baskets. It is a good place to practice but kind of dull to play.

Cons:

Cons of the course are many. The holes are boring. The flow is lacking. There are some dangerous holes to play while others are playing, the playground off 2 could be a big hazard in a headwind.

Other Thoughts:

I have lived in Newton for several months and have only played this park once. I would rather drive across town and play Camp Hawk. It has a much better shot variety and is much more fun to play.
