Fun & thoughtful 9 holes

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 24, 2023 Played the course:once

Pros:

It appears this course was recently upgraded from 5 to 9 holes. It's simple, but I think the designer/community did a nice job of making a fun track that embraces a lot of elements of disc golf. Some open shots with chances to bomb drives. One major elevation change. Some tight wooded lines, and more. This course could be better, but clearly, thought was put into it, and I love to see disc golf growing in a small community. Check my other thoughts below for a hole-by-hole breakdown.

-requires backhand and forehand shots
-bathroom by hole 1
-plenty of parking
-great views in the fall
-VERY NICE playground nearby where your kids could play
-decent navigation. UDisc helps, but you could probably figure it out without it
-Tee signs on every hole
-Very short drive to this course off the highway

Cons:

-No tee pads
-Okay shot variety. For the most part, a straight shot with limited fade is the way to go.

Other Thoughts:

Hole 1 - It's right next to the parking lot and plays east toward the giant hill. The basket is between two trees that are probably 40 feet apart. Simple hole. You could go straight at it or throw a hyzer. The basket is a little further than it looks off the tee, maybe 10 feet.

Hole 2 - It's a bomb of throw from the flat field up the large hill/mound. The tee sign says it's a par 3 at 326 feet. I bet it takes 400 feet of power to get to the basket. From the tee sign, you can see the hill has a flatter side/space that's roughly 100 feet away from the basket. Try to land there for good footing, and then pitch up the hill. From the tee sign/hill landing zone, you can't see the base of the basket. There were about 15-20 feet of space past it, so you have some room to land before your disc will roll down.

Hole 3 - From Hole 2's basket, walk north down the hill and turn to your right to find the tee sign. This is a long, straight drive with OB on the left side of the hole, left of the walking path. No obstacles really. The tee space has a slight right to left slope to it, so that could mess up a drive and send you OB.

Hole 4 - Back track from Hole 3's basket back toward the big hill from Hole 2. From the tee sign, you're throwing towards the tree line left of the dog park. The basket is visible from the tee right along the tree line. Distance control is the challenge on this one. If you go 8 feet past the basket you're in the woods.

Hole 5 - Head into the woods through the path near hole 4's basket. This was probably my favorite hole. Wooded fairway. Midway down the fairway, you need to split a gap that requires a right-to-left shot. However, in my opinion, the basket placement is so straight off the tee that a Right-handed backhand won't get you there. You'll end up crashing into the woods in circle 2. I think this hole requires a right-handed forehand turnover. I was able to hit the gap and ended up 25 long of the basket.

Hole 6 - Just north of hole 5's basket. This hole starts in the woods with a gap hit about 40 feet off the tee. From the gap it opens up more, but the fairway remains lined by trees on both sides, with more space on the right. Essentially, this requires a straight shot to pin it.

Hole 7 - slight backtrack from Hole 6's basket to a path leading back into the woods. To get to circle 1, you need a mostly dead straight shot. For my game, a flip-up forehand driver made the most sense. For a backhand shot, I think you'd need to go with a midrange or putter off the tee that moves slightly right during the flight.

Hole 8 - From hole 7's basket, head to the walking path you can see and take a right. You'll see 8's sign shortly after. This is another dead straight woods shot with a small gap to split at the end. Beat the gap, and you probably birdie. Hit those trees, you're looking at a 30 - 40 footer. There's a forehand line to the left side of the gap that requires you to split 2 trees that are roughly 15 feet apart. If you hit those and fall down, you'll be in thick rough, but overall, that left side gap/line has more space to fly.

Hole 9 - tee is visible from hole 8's basket. This hole is out of the woods, and it plays back to the parking lot by hole 1. Multiple trees create a low ceiling. Very well-designed to be difficult. I think a roller could get there, but this is far. The tee sign calls it 330, but it feels more like 360 or 370. Parking lot is on your left for most of the fairway, but it feels far enough away that I didn't worry about it.

Why? 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 6, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

- Tee signs for 4 out of the 5 holes.
- Ample opportunity to chuck it into the dog park on #5.
- They use the hill. #2 throws uphill. #3 throws downhill.
- They use the trees. #1 throws around the two trees.

Cons:

- Cramped, oddly dissatisfying disc golf in a busy multiuse park area.
- Other than #'s 2 and 3, as well as the last half of 5, the rest is mindless filler.

Other Thoughts:

- Just ugh. I guess they should be commended for not trying to smoosh a full nine in here, because that would be even more of an atrocity.

Well , The Park Is Nice 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 31, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

There are baskets here , for 5 hole Centennial Park .
Equipment . 5 older mach baskets that catch okay. 5 signs , one on a large hill that has #2 basket on it . Natural Tees .
The Landscape . all flat except a huge hill that you have to throw up to #2 basket on and throw off of from #3 tee ( cool ).It's a beautiful multi use park and gets a lot of park patrons.
The highlights , see Landscape . quick play 15 minutes or less . Disc Risk : Remote . Nice bathroom at parking lot

Cons:

#1 Safety . Since the course is not really a course , there is a walking trail just beyond #1's basket . There are also people that will cut across your fairway to walk or take Fido to the dog park that runs right next to the course . On #5's fairway , you are dangerously close to the dog park . It is open air here and a good gust of wind might spell bad times for the dogs or people that use the dog park facility . They will be plenty mad since they are in the right , on that side of the fence .
Navigation . None . Guess from the photos of the holes . #1 goes straight toward the walking area ( away from the dog park toward a clump of bushes ) , 2 goes to the top of the only hill in this park . #3 goes off the hill towards the woods . #4 comes back towards the fairway you just threw over , and 5 which is almost 550' , runs alongside and past the dog park fence , to the basket next to the woods .
The signage could be more descriptive , so you know where you throw at , and even a toe board will help you know where to tee off from . For a nice park , I thought the baskets and signs might be a little better . No kiosk , no map . No worries ! All of the holes here are pretty much wide open drives .
Clearing off the other side of that hill wouldn't be a bad idea , either . 5 holes in this nice park , REALLY ?!?!

Other Thoughts:

I don't know the story behind this disc golf course . Was it put here as a novelty ? I looked around and found more than enough land to support at least a 9 hole course . There is a walking trail spanning a woods that the fitness people can share with the disc golfers that can hold plenty of holes . There are also spots beyond the large hill . I'll make a deal with the good people of Centennial Park . If you make this 9 holes and restructure the first 5 holes , I will come back and evaluate it with a straight face and give this park the praise it deserves . For now , this is just a practice area ( albeit a good practice area ) to safari and make up a couple of holes .
My Recommendation : Seriously ?!

Great for practice 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:May 23, 2016 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

- It's the only course in its known area without having to drive 30-45 minutes away
- It's not bad for practicing new shots/ honing your form
- Hole #3 is a nice far shot down the hill which is always a blast
- The baskets are actually pretty great and have a nice catch on them.
- This course is set in a pretty popular part of the park so the chances of getting more people to try the sport and ask questions about it are high.

Cons:

- Hole #1, and 2 seem to intertwine with each other and can be troublesome if more players were to be playing

- The dog park can choose to be some what trouble some if you accidentally throw a straight shot (ive thrown into the dog park 4 times thankfully with no dogs around)

- Last time I was there the post to Hole #3 was actually missing (If it is replaced should not be an issue)

- There are locals that seem to gather towards the end of the day and will play football/soccer dead center in the middle, I actually saw some people park right on top of basket for #1. This is something that signs could definitely prevent.

Other Thoughts:

Overall I think its an great course for beginners and can be fun to get out and play and actually learn the sport. I think that this course has so much potential seeing that there is literally plenty of room for growth. I can see this being an amazing 18 hole course some day and I truly hope that it can grow into one that people from all over will drive to just for it. As of right now I wouldn't recommend people coming in from other cities solely for this course but in due time its a possibility. The only thing I wish they would have done a little different is to maybe put some woods in the mix, after hole #4 they could have hooked into the woods around the dog and cleared brush to even make it a 6 and 7 hole course but for being a new thing to Plymouth I understand.
