Great 9-hole beginner course close to home 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 26, 2020 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

I've been meaning to review this course for a while, but it has been really nice to see it grow and improve since I first started playing here at the beginning of the year (really nice work Jimb).

This course is great for beginners, as it provides a good mix while still being pretty open. I have only been playing for about a year, getting to play maybe once a weekend, and this course still provides the occasional challenge. I mostly play with mid ranges and putters on every hole, which helps me improve my form and throw.

This is a great course to practice different types of shots (Hole 6 comes to mind for RHFH), while still having a minor amount of obstacles.

The baskets are in really good condition, and the course map does a pretty good job of showing where the tees and baskets are. I also like that a box was added before Hole 1 that provides a map and score cards. This was a great addition to the course, as originally I had to save a copy to my phone for reference.

The biggest Pro for me is the location of the course. Living in Cumberland, this course is less than 10 minutes from me. Before this course was added I had to travel at least an hour to play disc golf. It is really nice to see a course like this so close to home, and I am able to refer this course to friends in the area who want to give disc golf a try.

Cons:

When I first started playing this course I had a few Cons in mind. However, Jimb has done a great job of improving the course.

Originally, there were issues with the baskets occasionally falling over, and the tees were quite hard to find at times. Now, the baskets are very sturdy and feel more permanent.

The tees are also easier to find, due to the grass being cut shorter to signify them. However, if I play when the grass hasn't been cut in a little while it can be hard to find them. I have the course memorized now, but I could see how it would be difficult if it is your first time playing.

One current Con is the lack of tee pads. For most of the holes I think the natural tee pads are fine, but there are a couple that could be improved. I'm particularly thinking about holes 2 & 5. Hole 2 can get kinda slippery if it has rained, and is a little awkward with the roots from the tree being right there. For hole 5, there are tree roots in the white tee pad, which can make it difficult to get the proper footing for your tee shot. However, once you've played it a couple times it isn't so bad (I've almost ace'd it twice now, so its still workable).

Another Con that comes to mind is the hours of availability. However, I know this isn't avoidable due to the location, and I totally understand. I just try to play every Saturday that I can.

Also, not a Con for me, but it could be for others, is the change in elevation between holes. The course is pretty hilly compared to others I have played, but I think it provides a nice extra level of challenge and fun. However, I could see this being a Con to beginners, or those with any physical limitations.

Other Thoughts:

As I said before, this course is great for beginner and intermediate players, but could be disappointing for more experienced players who are looking for tight technical holes or are trying to throw massive drives.

If you're in the area and are looking for a nice, fun, 9-hole course, then I highly recommend this one. Jimb has done a great job with the layout with the space given for this course.

Great beginner course! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 11, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

Great for beginners! Mostly open course but has a couple holes that play in the woods to add a little difficulty. Has some good terrain differences. Something a little different for every hole but not too challenging. Nice confidence builder. Will definitely be back!

Cons:

Flat tee markers were hard to find in some places but I had a great guide (Jim who designed the course)! Once you've played a round you'll get the hang of the layout.

Other Thoughts:

Happy to have a local course (about 20 min from where I live). Nice place for a quick 9 holes!
