Ideal beginner course

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 30, 2022 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

- Beginner friendly: If you are trying to decide which ATL area course to bring that first timer you convinced to join you for a round (especially a female or junior player), this is THE spot.
- Fun! While short, the course features a wide variety of technical lines particularly on holes 3 through 8.
- Excellent use of topography, particularly on holes 7 (the hardest hole on the course as a tightly wooded uphill ~220' par 3 with early kick into jail and rollaway potential on the green) and hole 8 (an extremely touchy turnover putter shot that goes up then pretty sharply downhill where I constantly end up in the creek bed behind the hole putting back sharply uphill from circles edge)
- Great practice area in front of the church with 3 baskets and one of the largest available fields you will find in the ATL Perimeter North area.
- Rumored to be planning an expansion to 18 holes in the coming years.

Cons:

- Average hole length of ~200' so most reading this will be throwing almost exclusively putters off the tee except for holes 1 and 2 which are quite open.
- Lack of challenge (as a high 800s level player I average ~4 or 5 down on 9).
- Turf tee pads that are showing some age.

Other Thoughts:

Disclaimer: I tried to be objective but I love this course as it is where my family and I started playing in 2020. 2 years and a junior world championship for my daughter later, disc golf is an incredible family activity for the long run. Special thanks to Bryan Gort the course designer and some members of the church for making this happen!

The Chamblee Church Welcomes Disc Golfers To Experience Their Entertaining Little Disc Golf Course! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 13, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

CHURCH PROPERTY DESCRIPTION - The church has two acres worth of lawn in front of the church plus property on the left and probably another 4-6 acres behind the main church building.

VARIETY - 1 and 2 play in the open but then 3-9 are mostly shorter wooded holes.

ELEVATION - # 4 plays down a hill but the best hilly hole would be # 10. It's unofficial but as you are walking back to your car which is probably parked near hole # 1, from the top of the small hill, play a soft touch shot down to the # 1 basket which is just below you. It takes a feathery touch to clear the tree and get close to the basket.

CHALLENGE - The challenge on this course is mostly the technical nature of the wooded holes. There are some tight but enjoyable lines to hit.

EQUIPMENT - The baskets are the ugly Discatchers with the coney thing on top. I don't care for their look but they function well enough. The tee pads are turf covering concrete. They are starting to show their age and usage. The signs are and clear. There are three practice baskets spread out over the front lawn.

AESTHETICS - It's nice and peaceful back in the woods but watch your filthy language because there did seem to be church people walking the paths all around you.

FUN FACTOR - The nine hole is well done. The wooded holes have some fun lines that you'll need to hit.

ROUTING/NAVIGATION - As you drive into the church property, you see different type of baskets. These are the practice baskets. The course actually starts at at your bottom left corner if you are facing the church from the entrance.

Cons:

Some of the property will get boggy during rainy times. Boots might be advisable.

Currently only nine holes but they are considering expansion to 18 sometime in the future. The original nine hole setup had to be changed due to some construction.

# 3 at 318' and slightly uphill is the closest thing to a bomber hole here.

Other Thoughts:

I met up with local player Mark and his trusty companion dog whose name i regrettably have forgotten. Mark plays here often and loves the freedom it provides Fido to run and fetch. Mark also knows the history of the course and turned me on to the previously mentioned alternative hole # 10.

If you haven't played here, you'll want to give it a try. It's a lot of fun.
