Chaparral Park is a lovely little city park in an affluent community. It's very common in that respect. What makes this course stand out from the crowd is it's clever design. What the designer did was create a 10 hole course in a limited space. He achieved this by basically laying out only five fairways and five tee pads. The tee pads are natural and marked by two yellow campground poles, just like every other course in this area. Then he placed two baskets on each fairway, yellow Discatchers for holes 1-5 and orange Discatchers for hole 6-10. There isn't much difference between the two baskets, maybe one is 30' longer or perhaps 50' to the left or right.

Because I'm a cagey veteran (laugh, laugh, cough, cough) or maybe because I'm just lazy, I decided the smart way to play this little course is to throw both holes at the same time, play 1 and 6 together then move on to 2-7 and so on. You get 10 holes while only walking the course once. Saves times, too.

The course is an fun, easy total recreational experience, perfect for families, beginners or someone who lives close by. Distances vary from # 1 and 5 which are in the 150' range to 4 and 9 which play 300' and 351'.

The main con is this only a recreational course. If you're looking for a bigger challenge, you have been warned.
Being a nice park, you might run into some traffic but playing on the MLK holiday, it was easy to avoid the other park users.
Natural pads are fine for this course with limited play and they do show enough wear to prove that Chaparral DGC is getting some play.

This design would be great to play some form of best ball format. You tee off twice on hole 1-6 obviously trying to park one throw at both the yellow basket and the orange but if you're as bad as me, your throw aimed at the yellow basket might be much closer to the orange basket so you get to decide which throw goes to each basket. Might be a fun betting game.

Previous reviewers are correct in stating this course is probably best for locals or crazy course baggers. It is wonderful for baggers, walk around once throwing two at each pad and you've completed a 10 hole course in no time! Wham, bam, thank you ma'am!

10 baskets with 5 tees in a well kept park nestled in a nice neighborhood.

There's a lot of elevation with almost nothing level.

There are many large, mature trees to navigate around.

Since it is a nice park next to a school, you should expect people around. I was slowly working my way around a group of ladies socializing while walking their dogs.

There are no tee pads, even though there are some yellow posts with the hole number on it (1/6, 2/7, 3/8, 4/9, and 5/10).

There are no numbers written on any of the baskets. Without the course map, available from this site, you'll be lost. Even with the map I mistook number 8 for number 4. The way you can avoid this is to realize that the yellow baskets are all your first round of 1-5 and the orange baskets are all a little further away and your second round of 6-10.

This new course is about 2 miles north of the 101 freeway just west of Kanan Rd. It is therefore a convenient stop if you're headed through that area.

I met a guy walking through the park who has seen about 20 people playing this course over the two months that he's regularly walked through there. That's not much traffic.

The baskets are brand new looking Innova DISCatchers. They looked so new that I wondered if I was the first one to use them.

Hopefully they'll put in some concrete tee pads with distances for both the yellow and orange basket.

But if nothing changes it's still worth a visit. I just couldn't give it more than a 2.5 with so many improvements needed.

This course would be greatly enhanced if it had concrete tees similar to River Walk in Corona. Those rock borders would fit well here!
