OK for Off Hours Practice

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 27, 2022 Played the course:once

Other Thoughts:

~ Six basket layout on wide open church property. No tees or signage - use uDisc map to determine tee location and next basket.

~ Two holes use a few trees and a little bit of elevation change: the short (167') hole #3 which invites a tall RH hyzer crash through a patch of trees, and the even shorter hole #4 (149') which is uphill over a rainwater retention area

~ Less a "course" than it is an activity - maybe for church camp or similar. But you can't play when the fields are in use

~ Nothing really wrong or broken here, but it's just 6 baskets spread around a church's giant front year. Good for bagging, practice rounds, upshot practice

Nice Little Spot in this Neck of the Woods

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jun 26, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

Christ's Church of the Valley DG is a small 6er course close to Reservoir Park in Phoenixville, about eight minute's drive. It's fairly open grass and flat taking place on multi-use fields.

The course seems to hit most of the lines and had almost maximized the use of its ground. Four of the six holes are just wide open with varying distances, so it's nothing experienced DGers haven't seen hundreds of times before which designates it as more a practice course.

Still, in the summer where I avoid brush-heavy courses like Res Park, I appreciated this new nearby course for beginners and casual play and it would also serve well as a quick practice round before one of the immediate area's bigger selections.

Short #3 was a nice touch, where the disc's trajectory was straddling a detention pond and you have to trust in it's fade to be on point to the basket. #4, an uphill through some trees with the basket near the pond was also a plus.

Cons:

If the fields are in use with other sports, you're asked not to play. Understandable but you won't know til you get there. So it's probably more a mid-day weekday or off-hours course.

Without Udisc, I would have been lost as to where to start. None of the tees are marked and gives a "Throw from where you want" feel. Which isn't terrible either. Tee posts, ground planks or spray paint on the sidewalks would have sufficed.

The course almost maximized the small amount of land it except I wished they used the long gravel drainage by tee #5 more as a fairway in its own right. Other than that, for better or worse, there's not much left to "edit" better holes here.

Other Thoughts:

1: Teeing from concrete sidewalk. 184ft straight on.
2: Another 182ft straight on, currently with a slide on left. Basket by trees.
3: Shooting on edge of detention pond throughout, basket 167 just after trees.
4: Sidewalk tee, uphill through trees to basket by trees near edge of pond. 149ft.
5: Shooting near gravel drainage. Straight towards street. 308ft.
6: Shooting back near starting position. 226ft staight on.
End loops back to beginning.

Terrain: Oo - Passable. Mostly open with some features here and there.
Execution: OO - Reasonable. One missed opportunity and no signage but otherwise it's about as good as the terrain will allow.
Upkeep: N/A. New. Well-mowed fields.
Difficulty: Oo - Beginner's course except #3 perhaps.
Fun Factor: OO - Reasonable. A nice temporary diversion for newer players or nearby players.
Crowded: N/A. I don't expect the DG part to be crowded but the other parts may be making it unplayable at times.
Overall: Oo - Passable. A few issues knock some points off but a nice quick, casual round.
