Better Back 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 25, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

This is the back 9 of the Stayton/Sublimity park 18. The park isn't as pretty as Pioneer in Stayton but still nice and well appointed. The big difference is it is big enough and has enough trees to have a more reasonably challenging course, even if still fairly short. As in Stayton the club has done an excellent job with the niceties of pads and signs but have enough space to show they can also shape a hole.
Maintenance crews were mowing and were very polite, waited for me to drive on one hole and didn't run over an approach that tailed into their path on another.

Cons:

Very few. Shorter over all but reasonable with exception of hole 9. This hole is short enough to feel out of place.

Other Thoughts:

I like this course but if I was in area again I would play this one twice to get in 18 holes rather than drive to Stayton unless I had very new players along.

Sublimity Course Is Ideal For Newbies! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:May 27, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

The Church Park DGC has all the same great features as Pioneer in Statyon. It sits in a great little city park which has lush, green grass and a canopy of mature trees. The park has a slight roll to it so you are throwing very slightly downhill on # 2. It now has a kiosk at the beginning like Pioneer complete with course map. Church Park has the same great tee signs which have all the information need on them, hole #, distance, par and route to basket. The baskets are the same Discatchers with the bright yellow band. The tee pads are concrete and a bit longer than those at Pioneer.
There are a few longer holes here with # 4 topping out at 303' across a open expanse of lawn. # 9 is a 111' finishing ACE run just waiting for you to rattle the chains.
Course has great opportunities to practice your rollers.

Cons:

Hole distances are short enough that I'd call this a Pitch & Putt.
Church facilities are close so I guess alcohol/drugs are probably not a good idea.

Other Thoughts:

Excellent little beginner/newbie course. I talked to three young men who said they were playing this course until they got good enough to play some of the other more challenging courses in the area. This course (and nearby Pioneer) are perfect for that level of player. It's too bad that every newbie wasn't able to cut his teeth on a wonderful little course like this with no hunting for lost discs, forgiving open fairways and short distances
