Fun Shots, Confusing Layout 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 14, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

+9 new baskets
+Scenic park on the shores of Clear Lake. Lots of mature trees, a beach, playground, shelters, camping, nature trail.
+Shouldn't lose a disc here. There are places that you could put it in the woods with a bad toss but you should be able to find it.
+Some fun shots in the last few holes in the trees. Holes 6-9 play in a more secluded, moderately wooded part of the park. 7 plays as a tunnel shot, 8 is a little more open but finishes in the woods. Those 4 holes are the best of the course.
+Good for beginners but will still entertain better players for at least a round or two. Overall, definitely on the shorter and easier side of things.
+Ace runs are possible, especially on the first 3 holes but all holes are possibilities.

Cons:

-The layout is the biggest issue on the course. Hole 1 starts right next to the shelter and plays towards the beach area. Hole 2 goes back towards the shelter. Hole 3 goes back towards the lake. Then you walk all the way back past 3's tee. Through some of the campground, and you might find 4's tee. I think that I found it. Or at least made a good enough substitute. 4-9 are straightforward and easy to follow but take you fairly far away from the start.
-No signage. Tees are marked by a flag on a steel T-post. The flags will fall off and it will just be a t-post if nothing more permanent is put up.
-Tees are all natural. Fine for now but would be better in concrete.
-Holes 1-3 could have picnickers or beach goers in the way. 4 and 5 could be rough to play if the campgrounds are somewhat full. I played within inches of a volleyball net that was set up by campers on hole 5.
-Overall, this course won't challenge most better disc golfers. The available land for disc golf is fairly small after all the campground land as well as other recreation.
-Not much for elevation and what was there was not used well. There are some small slopes that could have been used to make some greens more interesting.

Other Thoughts:

+This park is very nice and this course has potential. They need to solidify signage and ideally, get concrete tees in here. They could tweak the layout a bit before they put concrete in there. 1-3 are laid out funny and make it hard to find 4 and beyond. It wouldn't be too hard to fix those holes and improve this course.
+Overall, I had fun playing here and would stop back if I was in the area. It is pretty rural and I don't know if I will get back but I hope to. Maybe a camping destination.
