Night Golf 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 15, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

+ Innova DISCatchers. They are a bit older but still catch well.

+ Concrete tees for the main layout. There are also shorter blue tees but those are natural. From the looks of the blue tees they dont seem too worn down. The concrete tees are plenty long for the tall folk and Conrad runup approved. The concrete is a bit beat up and some of them are getting cracked and breaking apart but its nothing crazy that cant be dealt with by the player.

+ The parking lot seems to be just for the course and its plenty big.

+ The course is set in-between two directions of a highway and seems like the park is mainly for disc golf use.

+ The land is set on some rolling hills and what seem like drainage ditches. The designer really used this to their advantage and placed a good portion of the pins right on the edge of the hills so that you have to have some pretty spot on drives to get close to the basket and you must also have some good putts so that you dont airball and fly or roll down the hills. I really like what they did with the pin placements.

+ Teesigns are present and are hand made painted signs. They arent the best but they do the job. They show you the multiple positions and give you distances. Could be better but they get the job done.

+ THERE ARE PERMANANT LIGHTS ON THE COURSE. YOU CAN PLAY 24HRS A DAY. This was the biggest selling point for me on this course. I was told by the locals that I needed to check out this course just because of that. The golf isn't the highest caliber but the lights more than make up for it.

Cons:

- No bathrooms that I could see

- Pin and teepad placements are a bit unsafe at times. There were multiple holes where the pins were too close to a teepad or that you had to wait for the hole in front of you to tee off so that you could safely throw because a hole or two seems to cross fairways. Technically they dont cross fairways but it seems like they do.

- The course isn't anything special. I threw a firebird hyzer on 12 of the 18 holes. Not really what I look for in a course but not terrible. Me being able to throw that many hyzers also could have been a lot of straight or forehand shots. There are trees on the course but they are big and spaced out. This leads to there being multiple routes to the basket.

- Some holes were a bit confusing as to which basket I was throwing to. There were just a few too many times where you could see more than one basket in the area where you have to throw. A bit confusing as a first timer but that should go away the more you get familiar with the course.

- Hole 18 finishes in a weird place to me. Its close enough to the start of the course but you finish in a place where there is another holes basket and two other teepads. Nothing to bad, just a bit odd.

- Teesigns could use some work. Multiple teesigns had multiple pin positions labeled on them but there was no way to tell which pin position the hole was in. I think the teesign on hole 1 and maybe one more were missing as well.

Other Thoughts:

I played this course for one reason and one reason only. To play disc golf at night on a lit course without the need for anything glow. I waited til the sun went down and headed to the course. There were like 30 other people also playing at night, which is awesome. I must first say that playing at night is hard. I had a tough time seeing the tree branches and the correct routes to take but seeing at night is hard so I can't expect much there. My review of this course is just based on me playing the course at night. There is probably plenty that I missed but I still enjoyed my time. I was able to get help finding the tees and pins from the others playing the course. Being able to play a course at whatever time of day is just an amazing trait for a disc golf course to have. There are no houses or businesses close to the course so there is no need to worry about the sounds of chains keeping anyone up late at night. The locals have a league here at night that takes advantage of this. If I lived in the area I would be frequenting this league because why not.

I would play this course again just because I can play at night. Other than that theres not much else that would bring me back. The golf itself is nothing crazy special or noteworthy. I would say that you should travel out of your way to play this course just so that you can play this course at night and do something that you probably will never get to do again. Without the lights I would say that you should only play this course if you are in the area and have already played Ford Park and are looking for something else to play.

Solid Kept Up Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Aug 19, 2010 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Course is well kept up. Grass is cut frequently and there's little to none litter. Great course for beginners and other skill levels. Tee signs are all accurate. Picnic tables and trash cans along the course. Lights are in place so you can play at night.

Cons:

May be confusing to players new to the course as to where the next hole is on a couple of holes.

Other Thoughts:

Really fun course to play for all skill levels. I played at night one time and the back 9 was not as lit up as the front 9 so if you do not know the course very well I do not recommend playing at night.

Still Fun After All These Years 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 27, 2009 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

I first played this course in 1984 with a wham-o frisbee and my 'Old Man' so this is where it all began for me... Flash forward 25 years. This couse is still well maintained (even after the storm) and is fun to play.

-Wide open fairways with mature trees
-Several fall-away greens with steep hills around the pins
-2 to 3 pin placements per hole
-benches and trash cans
-concrete tees
-and ofcourse the lights
-GREAT course for beginners and novice to learn and fine-tune their game
-A sign on the info board stated the Parks Dept is dedicated to restoring and updating the course. That is great news

Cons:

It has been 7-8 years since I have played the course and I was dissapointed with the amount of litter that was on the ground. There was not a LOT by any means, just more than I remember. (COME ON guys... pick up a can or a napkin while in the fairway! I picked up 3 cans in my one round!)

As I have gotten better this course does not offer the challenge it used to, not really a con so much because this course is still a great course for beginners to learn on.

Other Thoughts:

Overall still a fun course to play while 'home for the holidays' If you are in the area it is easy to get to and fairly easy to navigate, plus there is always someone out there playing and if you ask, they will probably let you join in.

Home Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Feb 15, 2008 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

As already mentioned, this course is lit and there are players out every night until about 10:00. Even though this course is limited in landscape since it is in the median of a major parkway, there is significant undulation and foliage to make each shot unique. Not to mention the fact that every 2 months or so, the pins change to one of three different locations. This course will test all of your shots.

Cons:

Weed and Thuggery, but what public area that is lit at night doesn't have those, huh? Those aren't really a factor, but make sure to play with a group if you play at night, just in case.

Other Thoughts:

This is the course that I was introduced to disc golf on, and I have thoroughly enjoyed it.

Night play 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 11, 2007 Played the course:never

Pros:

Lit for night play, easily its best feature. 27 holes in one location. Good use of terrain on third 9.

Cons:

Very little variation of terrain on front 18. No facilities.

Other Thoughts:

The course is lit, but the lights are intended for walkers and not disc golfers, so some holes are kind of dark. You'll want a white/light disc if you play at night, and even then you could easily lose a disc.
