Fun Addition To Eastern Ohio 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 30, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

A surprise course has just been added to the I-70 corridor , an hour or so east of Columbus . More surprising is that a church , Cornerstone Full Gospel Church , added this 18 hole course . There is a large amount of parking near the start of the course , and a Port O Let near the pavilion at the start of the course .
The Equipment - There is a nice kiosk with a large map at the start of the course . Take a picture of it . The course seemed to flow well , but you don't want to be turned around in a spot or two . There is a putting basket near the pavilion . The tee pads are large rubber . I don't know how they grip when wet , but they hold your feet well when dry . The tee signs are informative quality wood ones on posts . The baskets are new white Dynamic Veterans .
The Landscape - The course was mowed and was very clean when I was here . The front 11 holes and last 2 holes are more park style . 5 of the holes are in the woods or are semi woods holes . A few of these holes are flat , but many are on slopes or grades . A couple of driveways may come into play , and a few trees in the front to many trees in the woods will come into play on fairways and near baskets . Only a couple of places where overgrowth will be a problem . The right side of hole 16 and the right and left of hole 17 will affect your decision on how to play this .
Beauty - Both the grounds and the course are scenic and very nice to look at . Unless you are pressed for time , you may not want to jump in your car and drive right away .
Highlights - #3 is a nice uphill 345' with a landing zone , and a dry creek guarding the front of the basket . #11, 272' is a dogleg left over a gully at the end . The basket is in a tight green . #12 is a semi woods hole left to right with trees and brush in the middle of the fairway . The basket sits elevated on an embankment . #17 should have been the finishing hole . 2 tee pads , long is 555' short is over large overgrowth to a hidden pin . The long tee has you shooting your drive through a fairway that has high and deep overgrowth on the right and lesser but still dangerous overgrowth on the left .
Signature Hole - #16 , 387' , Driving out of the woods from an elevated tee , there is a large semi truck on your left , and deep and high overgrowth on your right . The fairway is narrow , and the basket sits right next to the overgrowth .
Chill Area - At the start of the course and just up from hole #18 is a large wood pavilion with benches and a coke machine . This is a great place to congregate with friends or make new ones .
The Time - It took me just over an hour to play 18 . A group of 4 will finish in about 2 hours .
Disc Risk - If you are conservative on holes 16 and 17 , your disc risk is low . If you are going for the birds in either , it goes to medium-low .
The course is brand new but already seems broken in . You will even like the nice bridges ( ex. hole 3 ) installed that add to the ambience of the course .

Cons:

#1 Challenge - Don't get me wrong . There are holes here that will make you work for your pars or birdies and give you a risk/reward decision here and there , but some of the holes will lack any WOW factors . Just point and click straight shots with little or no obstructions on a few , like #4 , 6 , 7 , 9 , 18 . No water holes , and not a great amount of elevation .
#2 Safety - Part of the course is open-air and plays close to driveways and a couple near the road . a windy day could shake up a driver or 2 .

Other Thoughts:

I have always said that making a course on school or church grounds are an excellent way of showcasing your place , and introducing it to the locals And the curious . This course fills a void between courses Muskingum ( east ) Woodchuck Ridge ( north and Burr Oak ( south ) . Cornerstone is Not a secret . for a new course ( 2020 ) , there were several groups playing while I was here . They have opened their property for everyone to enjoy , and only ask that you not play during Sunday mornings in respect to services until 12:00 .
There is a donation box at the pavilion if you would like to help upkeep the property . Not giving to a religious organization and continuing to play normally causes you to lose 40'-50' on your drives and makes your putts fall out of the basket . Help them out with a few dollars .
My Recommendation - A good course , and not too long for intros ,newbies , families , members of the congregation . Challenging enough for locals , and enough " practice Holes ' for intermediates and up to air it out and try new discs . or midrange shots . Not too far off the beaten path for travelers looking to get in an hour round and pick up a sandwich . Course Collectors won't have any courses to combine this with , but it IS a new course to add . This course is also good to play while going to or coming from the open air animal encounter , The Wilds - which is about 25 minutes away .
Give This New Course A Try !!!
