Excellent Course For Elementary Students And The Not So Serious Rest Of Us!

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 2, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

Cougar Crossing Disc Golf Course (Established 2021) is a small 9 hole Rec course which plays around Ocean Shores Elementary School. I'm happy to report that the courses is getting some play as there were three other players enjoying the course this morning.

The course starts behind the school just outside the school's cafeteria. There are no tees so you just tee off next to the signs. The tee signs are small, metal ones about 4" x 8" with the hole #, par and distance. There is a second UDisc sign at # 1 explaining a UDisc mobile scoring Ap. The baskets are DGA Mach 5.

After # 1 you walk part way around the building to play 2-6. # 7 plays to a basket on a small hill near the ballfield. Then 8 & 9 play right in front of the school.

I skipped the 150' # 6 because I didn't want to disturb the two deer who were resting 10 feet from the basket. So the guy playing me fires his disc up there and then walks to about 10 ' from the deer who isn't fazed a bit. Talk about some tame deer.

The course is easy Rec level with only one hole (#2 at an open 220') playing over 200'. Being a school course, the course is not available during regular school hours.

Cons:

Definitely, the flow of the course is a little discombobulated. From parking, you have to walk around the school to reach # 1. Then you retrace your steps to reach # 2. You have to walk around and past the # 7 basket to get to the # 7 tee. The later you walk past the # 9 only to then throw back to it's basket. And Yes, I realize that space here is limited and the course designer was working with a difficult area to install a course.

# 8 and 9 especially play too close to the parking lot. Cars will get hit.

Lots of 100' to 150' straight open holes. Great for chasing Aces-Not do great for any average skilled golfer.

Other Thoughts:

I have to award big kudos to both the designer and the admin here. This course is very appropriately challenging for the elementary age children here. Nice to see the locals playing as well. With Tidewater DGC just down the street two miles, Ocean Shores now has two enjoyable little 9 hole Recreational courses. Not much for challenge but both are nice little courses, perfect for the not so serious disc golfers.
