View my Country View Review

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jul 30, 2023 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Country View features good amenities with two pin positions on every hole. It's a short and open design in a multi-use park on what used to be a few soccer fields.

For such a small course, the tees and baskets are real nice. Nine more baskets might be coming as well. I expect maintenance to be superb as well, so this is really a course that pretends to be a lot better than it is.

The small ridges are used pretty well to create some minor elevation change, with some small slopes on 3-7 and a tricky to access hole 9.

Cons:

There are hardly any obstacles. There's the treeline on the side of three holes, and only two freestanding trees on the entire course. You can pretty much take any line you want, except a few hyzers.

Even the treelines and backyards can be annoying if your accuracy isn't on point. There are thorns everywhere, so discs will be fairly hard to find if you go in there.

The alternate pins... don't do much. You're either throwing an ace run from 190 feet or an ace run from 230 feet, which doesn't really change the course with anything except requiring a little more power on a few holes. While the elevation is nice, there aren't any bomber holes where you're floating so far down, since the only downhill holes are only downhill near the basket and not by the tee.

Other Thoughts:

As far as practice courses go, this certainly isn't bad, but it doesn't have enough variety from hole to hole to deserve much recognition. It's a decent place to screw around for some ace runs, but I really think there are better courses out there for beginners.

If some trees are planted, this course could actually be pretty good in a decade or so, since every hole would be much more spicy with even one decently-sized tree.

I really don't know how anyone thought "Country View" was a good name for a park, Soccer complex, or Disc Golf Course. There are zero views of the country, and the country can't view the park. Oh well.

Open Wide

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jul 30, 2023 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Country View is open. Like, wide open. Like, don't go into the trees on the side and you'll have almost nothing to contend with open. This was the intention, the course is geared at getting newer/younger players into the game, and it does just that.

Concrete tees big enough for anyone's run-up when the longest hole is only 283ft. Nine brand new DD Veteran baskets, and plans for tee signs and a second set of baskets, possibly Marksmans. For now, there are two pin spots on each hole.

The small rises and falls previously used to drain the soccer fields are used well to test your distance perception, needing more power to go up on 3, 5, and 7, and then control on 6 and 9, which has a pin tucked just over the edge of the hill.

The playground is never put in danger unless you're crushing a Destroyer on a 180ft hole… which would be quite stupid.

Cons:

All the obstacles are on the left as the course moves clockwise around the course, 1 has the parking lot, while 2, 5, and 8 all have tree line. Very friendly to RHBH players, but going to be tough for a lefty. Maybe they get to learn anhyzers.

The hanging twigs in front of 8's basket. They're actually supposed to be part of the design… but they're 12 inches from the basket. Not ideal.

The openness will likely kill off the novelty even for a new player after a few rounds.

Other Thoughts:

A beginner course, this is. It has a full slate of amenities and has reachable distances for most players to get close to par. It won't offer very much to an experienced thrower unless you need a place to take someone to introduce them to the game or some approach practice, but it's an excellent spot for someone to throw their first few rounds. Keep it in mind when your significant other wants to try disc golf for the first time.
