The Icing on Craighead Cake 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 24, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

Loop 1 at Craighead Forrest has a similar feel to the main 18 hole course, also converging near the same parking lot. It isn't repetitive of the other course, but still mixes a lot of flavors from one hole to the next.

Good layout that plays quick. Not super lengthy, but a couple of chances to air out long drives. There is some modest elevation change, some heavy woods, some good birdie chances. No water on this one. Also with Innova baskets in nice shape, and concrete tees.

It is into the woods from the start, and plays a little more open on the last few holes. None of the really long par 3's, but four holes are in the 300'-335' range.

Cons:

There could be improvements to the signage. They had laminated paper on stakes, showing hole number and distance. One sign (maybe number 6) was missing.

Hole 8 plays across the road if I remember it right.

I wish I would have taken some pictures to post here.

Other Thoughts:

This Loop, along with the other 18 holes just across the road, is a fast and fun outing. It is probably too easy for the the pros, but has good lines to practice a lot of different throws. A great place to learn.

I hit a birdie on hole 6, and bogeyed on hole 9 to finish with par for the loop. I had a good drive on hole 2, but missed the putt. Then a bad drive on 3, but a great recovery on the approach to save par. Really liked the downhill run at 6, and managed to hit the wrong gap and still make the longish birdie putt. Then I went sour on the the drive on 9, and followed that up with an iffy approach attempt and a two putt bogey.
