Fun putter course, with beer! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:May 2, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

Nice little 18-hole putter course, mostly in the woods but with a few open holes. Playing here offers ample opportunity to work on your short approach game. Nice mix of straight, left-turning, and right-turning holes.

Water is frequently in play, with baskets set near streams and OB ponds. Elevation is used well on a few holes. Bridges have been installed where needed to cross the stream. Baskets caught well. Trash can and bathroom by the tasting room.

Lots of fun holes, many of which are decently challenging despite short distances. When I played hole 1 shoots through a barn, with the hillside sloping left from the basket. Hole 14 is a steeply downhill drive with the basket set just across the stream. Short drives get wet, and long drives leave a death putt back at the water.

Lovely rural setting, with dramatically rolling hills, hop fields, and picturesque farm buildings. Friendly folks at the taproom and working the farm. This place has a nice vibe, and I have enjoyed my visits.

Tasting room and beer sales a few short strides from the first teepad. Rotating beers on tap. The beers I have tried were quite enjoyable, especially on a hot day.

Every time I have visited improvements have been made to the courses.

Cons:

The holes are short, ranging from 66' to 177'. Most holes are in the 100-150' range. I would have enjoyed the course more if a few longer holes were mixed in, but this is a minor complaint.

Mix of teepad materials. Some are recycled concrete slabs, and others are smallish carpet squares. For this creaky old guy, holes were short enough that no run-up was needed and the tees were adequate.

The Pink course is set in a low-lying area, so it could get swampy after heavy rain or snowmelt.

Other Thoughts:

If you can't have fun playing a course with 18 ace runs, you may need to re-think your life choices. I love playing short, technical courses like this, but not everyone does. If you prefer to bomb your drivers, the Blue course offers plenty of opportunity. But even so, the Pink course can serve as a fun warm-up.

Navigation was fairly straightforward using the map on DGCR. The pink course uses pink tee markers, and the blue course uses blue tee markers. Some teepads are shared, which was a little confusing at first but made sense as I progressed through the round.

Note that the layout may vary from summer to winter. So the layout I played might be a bit different from the layout you may play. But I think that many holes are shared between layouts.

$5 donation to play the Pink and Blue courses. Money well spent, in my opinion. Call or e-mail ahead of time before playing. I have not played a glow round here, but night golf seems like it would be a blast.
